  1. And the left sees only neo-cons. How do you define 'so far to the right' and how is the republican party further right than your 80's example? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  2. You had me agreeing until about half way through. Discussing Powell's place in the Bush administration is one thing. Blaming the Iraq war on daddy issues goes down a completely different path. At least we agree on Powell being a decent man. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  3. I think you have a better handle on the situation than most; the ones who claim Bush knowingly lied about everything. However... no, i dont know any career flag officers who would intentionally distort the truth or just tell the President what he wants to hear. I also think more of Colin Powell than that. Powell used the information he had, just like Bush did, to make a decision. The rock and a hard place you speak of makes it seem as though he had to choose between the truth or telling the President what he wanted to hear. If he went with the latter, then forget him as an endorsement and especially as an advisor to any President. I don't think that's the case, though. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  4. Where did you see that? Fox has an article on Obama saying that Powell would be offered an advisor job (didn't see that one coming) but nothing on him being a racist. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  5. If he had backed McCain then you'd be blaming him for the same thing. He was a 4-star general and secretary of state. You think Bush duped him? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  6. Welfare and nationalized healthcare are not military industrial programs. Obama has a plan for nationlized healthcare estimated at $100B to kick off. keep dancing. 250k is not waaaaayyy above middle class, as evidenced by the argument you provide at the end of your post. The fact is he wants to shift more taxes to the well-off Your broad view of welfare includes every dime the government spends. All government contracts are not 'corporate welfare.' Who should they award contacts to if corporations are off the table? Who do you want to get the jobs done or provide needed equipment and technology? Boeing is welfare? You can't possibly be serious. Welfare is a handout with nothing in return. Govenment contracts yield technology and equpiment. If you have a problem with the bidding process or over-spending, again that's fine. Imagine that, saving some more rather than pissing it all away. You blame corporations. I blame handouts for the lazy. The problem is that conventional social welfare allows people to sit on their ass and collect indefinitely. There's no requirement to rise above it. "They," whoever that is, doesn't go anywhere for military members. It's a volunteer military. Most of the people on this board are legal US citizens who pay taxes. Reference earlier in thread. Fact remains that he wants to shift more of the tax burden to the successful. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  7. Right, ignore the actual welfare and government programs. Ignore the nationalized health care plan. Ignore tax hikes for anyone above middle class. Those are all made up by my mom and the neo-cons. We've had the military spending argument several times. As a function of GDP, the US is around #37. If you think that's too much then fine. Over spending in the military does not equate to socialism. Wow. Talk about oversimplifying. I'd really like know what you think a corporation is made of. You paint a picture of the Monopoly guy bouncing around a penthouse smoking a pipe. When a company like Boeing gets a government contract it employs thousands of people. There have to be people on the assembly line putting the shit together. In order to eliminate government contracts to civilian compaies, the military would have to produce all of their own equipment. That would mean, gasp, drastically increasing the size of the military. And the pregnant Mexican with 5 kids you speak of is in fact a drag on the economy... assuming she's drawing welfare, sending her kids to public school, and soon to be enrolled in free healthcare. So Obama's voting record is the fault of republicans. He was guilted into voting that way by the GOP. Great. Spine of jellow. The D's have an approval rating roughly half of Bush's. I too am anxious (ie. nervous) to see what will happen when they're in total control. McCain wants to cut taxes and cut spending. Obama wants to shift taxes to anyone above middle-class and increase spending. He doesn't want to distribute wealth. He wants to redistribute. Big difference. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  8. So why then are you voting for Obama? What has he ever done, excluding all the talk, to make you think he'll be a good president? It's a circular argument. If you claim not to listen to what people say but what they do, then it's back to the experience problem for Obama. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  9. Choosing Obama over McCain because you don't want more socialism is hard to figure out, yes. Throwing 100s of billions at the military, as you put it, is not socialism. Maybe you think it's wasteful spending, but it's not socialism. The bailout bill was terrible but both McCain and Obama voted in favor so that was a poor example to differentiate the two. Got anything else to try and prove why McCain is more socialist than Obama? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  10. What...? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  11. Here's a pretty good breakdown on Obama's healthcare proposal, I think. It's a little lengthy but makes good points. Healthcare Plan -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  12. Obama hasn't been charged with anything either. Keating and Liddy - convicted felons and associates of McCain. You want guilt by association, then look at associations with those who have been found guilty. Right. But ignore the ones who admitted to their crimes cause it fits your agenda -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  13. I had a tax refund last year, along with a majority of US taxpayers. I guess we'll have to start calling it "welfare" now. It's welfare when people who don't pay taxes get a tax refund. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  14. I just happen to run across this article. Take from it what you will. Government Funded Healthcare Don't bash me. Bash the article. Bash Hawaii. Explain how the national plan would be different. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  15. Obviously your opinion, since the INVESTIGATOR found no violations on McCain's part. Was it a mistake? Yup. If you want technical, no court has found any wrongdoing on Ayers' part. He admitted to it and said he wish he did more. The Keating scandal was investigated thoroughly. McCain always said he did nothing wrong and was found innocent. Trying to make the two sound the same is a waste of time. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  16. You've obviously missed the past arguments on this. Just because Canada provides health care does not mean it's worth a damn. I've never been there or done research but Canadians on this board have said the system is broken. You're buying into the rainbows and unicorns rhetoric. If nobody is paying out of pocket, then all docs are paid by the government. Do they all get paid equally? Shitty doctors paid the same as brilliant docs? What incentive do they have to be good docs? Who gets what doctor? Can we go whenever we want? What about the drugs they prescribe? Are those free too? It's easy to say everyone should have health care cause other countries do it. If you have a realistic proposal as to how it would work then please share. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  17. It's you're I know what you're saying. I don't agree with the part where you twist it into 'America has just as much innocent blood on it's hands as communist Russia.' -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  18. Quote My point isn't that Russia didn't do evil things, it most certainly did. It's that since you were a child you've been taught that Russia is evil, so you believe it, just the same as some Russians believe that America is evil. It's propaganda on both sides. America has as much blood on it's hands as Russia....Quote Well, that and the whole Stalin, pact with Hitler, communist rule thing. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  19. ...and for the love of God, try not to get sick cause the government is in charge of your healthcare. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  20. I should be paying at a far higher rate than someone making $25k/yr, at a higher rate than someone making $75k/yr, at a lower rate than someone making $750k/yr and at a far lower rate than someone making $7.5M/yr, there should be no loopholes or shelters, it shouldn't matter whether it is earned or investment income, and cumulatively we should pay our way rather than borrowing from the Chinese for our grandchildren to pay back. Cumulatively pay our way. Nice. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  21. Again, that goes back to what you think is being done and what you consider torture. Do you think they're breaking people's arms and cutting fingers off? Or do you consider sleep deprivation torture? McCain has always been a front runner against torture, including waterboarding. He supported the veto which leads me to believe there were not unacceptable practices in the CIA. To make a broad sweeping statement like you did, defining what you think is happening and what you consider torture is important. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  22. Do you have any evidence of that? I would argue he voted against that specific legislation becuase of the extensive amount of executive privilege, specifically limiting the access of Congress. The biggest divide inside the Beltway is not Republican v Democrats; it's Executive v Congress. VR/Marg Just from his explaination in the article kallend posted. Clicky -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  23. I've never been taught, or told, by anyone in any church or affiliated with any church that the muslims are all bad. I guess we could have a whole argument on why you think Russia wasn't bad and evil. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  24. vetted by mccain? he asked a question in a chance encounter with obama. to which the chosen one answered 'its better for everyone to spread the wealth around.' assuming he's not a plumber, who cares? does it make his question less valid? he's financially better off under obama and still thinks the tax plan is socialist. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  25. You guys are unbelievable. Voter registration fraud is illegal. That's all there is to it. I didn't say we should fear it. I didn't even say it would effect the election. It's illegal and should be punished. The fact that Obama is again tied to a questionable organization is a whole different argument. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
