  1. Not nearly as curious/interesting as knowing that he looks for that sort of stuff...tells me far more about him than perhaps he'd realized. Ciels- Michele My guess is he is a proud Mustang owner. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  2. I've heard the following hypothetical being used to test that assertion: You're in a large room inside of a burning building. On one end of the room is a petri dish chock full of human embryos (let's say thousands of them). On the other is a newborn human baby. If you had to choose between saving the baby or saving the embryos (not enough time to save them both), what would you do? This is an obviously far-fetched hypothetical, as most of them are. This scenario also sidesteps the moral question involving whether such embryos should be created for reasons other than the sole purpose of procreation (unless, of course, fertility clinics also represent a moral outrage). However, I'd fall out of my chair in shock to hear anybody claim that they'd save the embryos instead of the baby. It's an interesting hypothetical, but it makes the faulty assumption that the option we did not choose was not worth saving. Imagine another newborn baby in place of the embryos. Now which do you choose, still only able to save one or the other? Is the one you left behind any less worthy of being saved? I'm not against ESC research, I just don't believe it was a fair hypothetical. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  17. The costs of ethanol production are distorted by both sides of the argument. One side wants to ignore some of the costs of production, such as fuel for tractors, etc. The other side wants to ignore other valuable byproducts that can be obtained from the crops in addition to the fuel oil, which offsets more of the cost. Consequently, we really don't have access to realistic numbers with respect for the cost. Plus, the more bio-fuels are used, the more likely the "refining" costs will come down. Also, we do not include the cost of defending our access to foreign oil in the price of gas. Our access to cheap gas is essentially subsidized with tax dollars, so we don't have accurate numbers regarding the cost of petroleum based fuel, either. It is likely that the costs are actually pretty similar. Personally I would be willing to pay a little more for the biofuel. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  19. And, in the mean time, what do we do? [sarcasm]You're right. Since we can't instantaneously wean ourselves off foreign oil, we should give up the idea of ever having an alternate energy source.[/sarcasm] Actually, the US is not void of their own oil. As the price of foreign oil increases, it becomes more economically feasible to pump our own. Additionally, we have strategic reserves that can help with supply. Plus, we would still have access to some foreign oil during a transition period. Much of the necessary technology for alternative fuels already exists. For example, the diesel engine was designed to run on vegetable oil. Carbohydrates are a perfectly acceptable replacement for hydrocarbons. I would much rather put money in the American farmer's pocket than give it to Big Oil or their stockholders. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  20. Alternately, we could invest those funds in alternate energy sources, which would alleviate our dependence upon foreign oil. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  23. Filibusters are a tool that works best when used sparingly. If used often, they would very likely be eliminated, through legislation, as a viable method of challenging the majority. The minority party must choose there battles well when it comes to filibusters. A single spending bill is arguably less important than a lifetime SCOTUS appointment. Math tutoring available. 25. Feel free to post the exact number of votes that were tainted. If you can prove that every vote purported to be tainted, actually WAS tainted, then you might even be justified in your claim that the Rolling Stones story was accurate... I already supplied evidence to refute your claim. The article cited its sources very well. Feel free to address it.
