  1. I think that Scott is saying that we get extra cool points for backflying Purple Mike P.S. Has anyone tried my drink? Purple Mike's Drink Video
  2. There are two attempts from two different jumps in this video. One was held for three seconds and the other for seven. Purple Mike
  3. I am really excited about the possibilities! Let's close the diamond this weekend Purple Mike
  4. The current docked challenge record is now a double foot dock on a backflyer that was held for 7+ seconds. According to the rules posted at www.flockuniversity.org, this four point formation is the current winner since it has been held longer than any other four point formation. The wingsuiters are Nick Wright, Alex Frey (Potter), and Purple Mike. Adrian Binnion flew video. The full video is on my facebook wall, and it will be posted on YouTube soon. This jump was made on Saturday, March 13 at Skydive Houston ... The Wingsuit Capital of Texas Thanks to everyone for working with me for the past few weekends on foot docks. Two weeks ago Nick Wright made a foot dock on me immediately after exit until 4500 feet! As far as I know, this is the longest foot dock on a wingsuit. Brian Voils was also on that jump, but unfortunately we had no video. We have really pushed foot docks at Skydive Houston lately, and I know that we will continue to have more success at Flock and Dock this week! Purple Mike
  5. We can still do rodeos with hot naked chicks
  6. Gray Mike is wearing Purple and Black?
  7. Ok, but if the chicks are really hot, and especially if they're naked, then we should attempt a multi rodeo jump from the skyvan
  8. A quadruple docked triple rodeo from a skyvan would be nice! Lately, I have had the problem of too many hot chick riders and not enough wingsuiter guys that can handle a rodeo. Fortunately, Andrea has stepped in for some girl on girl rodeo action At this point, I plan to be there on Wednesday. I will confirm as the date gets closer. Purple Mike
  9. Who will be showing up to jump on Thursday? What about Wednesday? Purple Mike
  10. Hi Jon, Several wingsuiters will be at SDH this weekend. We had a lot of fun last weekend working on foot/ankle docks In the future, please do not grab an old thread because it may be confusing to many people. In particular, this old thread about July 4th, 2009, can easily be mistaken for a boogie on July 4th, 2010. See you this weekend, Purple Mike
  11. I have a couple of questions concerning the new 27% grid rule. I understand that this topic is politically sensitive, and I do not wish to offend anyone. I appreciate the time and effort that several people have put into the various measurement systems. I make this post purely from a neutral, mathematical perspective: 1. What criteria were used to come up with 27%? 2. Why use the base for scaling rather than the tallest person, or perhaps the median height? For question number two, consider the Lodi sixteen way diamond from May, 2008. Many of the people at Lodi are very tall. In fact, six feet is probably short at Lodi. I am 5’ 9’’ (176 cm) and flew base on this formation. I am curious to see if this formation fits the new 27% grid rule. If not, then does it fit the 27% grid rule using the tallest person for scaling purposes? What if the median height is used? Unfortunately, I do not have a photo of this formation. The Lodi sixteen way shows a dramatic case where several of the flyers are significantly taller than the base. However, using the tallest person or the median height on the Summerfest 25 way or the Elsinore 68 way may also be enlightening. These alternatives depend on the heights of all flyers in the formation rather than one particular flyer. Thanks, Purple Mike
  12. The blue hole jump is amazing! I flew my Vampire 1 into it during the last two boogies. I am really sorry that I have to miss it this year. Watch out for the sharks in the blue hole Purple Mike
  13. Thanks for bringing this photo up Matt. This is a photo of a nine way diamond that we completed at Flock and Dock in March 2007. At the time, I don't believe that a more perfect nine way diamond had been completed. I think that this photo looks great and should pass the record test. Can anyone confirm that it does or does not pass? I would also like to see if the famous Lodi 16 way of May 2008 passes the new record test. However, I do not have a photo. Possibly, Avery or Ed has a photo of this jump. I am glad that everyone is working together cooperatively to make the judging system better for all Purple Mike There is WAY too much spherical distortion in that photo to even fully understand what's going on. (a problem that still exists with all grid/photo methods) Moreover, it appears they are flying very tight which would make most grids invalid if you're not allowed to overlap squares (similar to this one).
  14. QuoteActually, as I remember we are flying steep because we attempting to not completely overfly our tiny landing area due to a tail wind, high seas, and a bad spot . Quote That's correct. I flew base on many loads, and I had to slow down the forward speed to make sure that we didn't overshoot the beach. Also, maximizing the time spent over the beach allowed the photographers more time to capture its beauty Purple Mike P.S. Thanks to everyone with a camera in PR
  15. I am 1.76 meters in case anyone is applying a base height dependent method to any formation in which I flew base. Purple Mike So we must not let Taya fly the base...
  16. An eight or nine way docked wingsuit formation is very impressive Purple Mike
  17. 1. Yuri 2. Jarno 3. Simon 4. Andreea 5. Kyle 6. Kipp 7. Butters (On The Fence) 8. Monkey 9. Skwrl/JD (maybe; I'll know better soon) 10. Purple Mike We will make some great multiple rodeos from the skyvan!
  18. I agree that body shape is important. I am 5'9'' and 150 lbs. I don't consider myself tall, but I am on the light side for my height. I love my Phantom 2! I agree with Andrea that it is a great suit for backflying, scary rolls, etc., yet it still has amazing forward speed for a relatively small wing. It's great for a beginner as well as an experienced wingsuit pilot. I have not flown a Raptor, so I can’t comment on its performance. I have a few jumps on the Ghost/Ghost 2. On my belly, I spent most of the time with the wings collapsed. On my back, I was also able to maintain a lower fall rate than on my Phantom 2. However, in both cases I had less forward drive than on my Phantom 2. I did make some rodeo jumps with a Ghost, and it did perform a lot better for me. Of course, I had girls on back weighing 105-115 lbs making us 255-265 lbs together. I usually use my Vampire 3 for rodeo jumps, but this suit is in an entirely different class. Paul Cain (paulelana@dropzone.com) has a lot of experience on a Ghost (or maybe Ghost 2). He likes the suit, and he is a little taller and heavier than I am. Also, he just recently purchased a Tony Suit (not sure what type). So, he may be able to give you an additional point of view. I hope to see you in Puerto Rico and/or Flock and Dock Purple Mike
  19. No need for grippers. I have had several girls dismount from a rodeo by sliding down my legs and holding onto my ankles. After this pitches me head high, I have been able to turn 360 degrees while in this position. It's another fun thing to do with a girl riding me Purple Mike
  20. Yes, that is the nine way over the Houston Space Center. Please note that I never applied the grid to any photos from this jump, but I believe that Matt Hoover did find a photo that passed the grid test. Someone correct me if I am mistaken. Also, I don't know if the photo in the link you provided is the exact photo that was submitted to the USPA. Anyway, I am curious to see what your method has to say about this jump. Purple Mike
  21. If Jarno is talking about the nine way diamond that we built over the Houston Space Center during the Ballunar event last October, then it was not supposed to be compressed. This jump was a simple nine way diamond with the standard three meter record spacing that was used at Summerfest, Pepperell, and Elsinore among other places. It is my understanding that this particular jump passed the grid test, but one of the participants had not renewed his USPA membership. So, the attempt was disqualified as a USPA Texas State record. Purple Mike
  22. Hi Jarno, I heard that there is a big way around this same time in the Czech Republic, but I don't know if the exact dates have been set. It might work out for some people in the US to attend both events, if they are around the same time. Do you know anything about this big way? Thanks, Purple Mike
