  1. Ahh, so foreign nationals should enjoy no protection under the law? Now I understand. Thank you for stating so clearly that the ideals upon which your legal system was built are no longer convenient and therefore no longer valid. Thank you for explaining that I as a foreign national should be very careful and thank (preferably the christian) God that I don't look like a terrorist, as I would otherwise be put in the box with all the other guys who should not have due process. 2. Why are there no pictures showing the front? C'mon, you could have draped the canopy across the boobs if that was a problem. Voted for 55 btw. HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde...
  3. Faith and experience. God has spoken directly to me in such ways that cannot be questioned on a number of occasions. I did not question that. My question was if the Bible was the literal Word of God letter by letter. HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde...

This is a dropzone that will take good care of you. When you arrive as a stranger you will be given a thorough briefing. Your gear and your papers will be inspected, and they will make d*mn certain you are as well prepared as possible, when you get on the plane. As a newbie jumper I have always felt very well treated. One of the instructors even did a checkout dive with me to clear me for RW the second time I was there. The Porter is nice, but pretty stuffed with tandems on the weekend. The view from freefall is spectacular. Make sure your first jump leaves you time to enjoy the view of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) and Mt. Blanc. The people are in general very friendly. It is not a problem finding someone to jump with. Just make sure to do a bit of work yourself. There's not much in the way of load organizing as this is a small DZ. Everyone is within shouting distance if you need a partner for a two-way. A couple of notes: - It is a quite small landing area, and there's a helicopter landing zone right next to it. Fly carefully. - No high altitude hop 'n' pops. Geneva airport is very nearby. - You can't buy food on the DZ, but there are supermarkets and fast food joints nearby. - The beer rules are simple. If you feel you owe beer, you out it in the fridge. Any beer found in the fridge is always assumed to be free.
  5. I turn my back from this thread for a second to go jumping. when I come back it seems I have created a monster. Maybe the hard opening I had was God's punishment. Is there any other explanation for a Spectre 210 deciding to bitch slap me? OK This link is hilarious: But it is actually a valid question. Which parts of the old testament are no longer "valid"? I have heard it mentioned on occasion that the coming of Christ and the new testament should supersede the old testament. Then why is it still there? 6. I'd say my odds are pretty good. My guess is some time between now and 2100. HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde...

  8. Are you discerning between English versions only, or are you saying that a "correct" bible only exists in English? Could you perhaps be persuaded to make a short summary of your ideas? For the record I hope this does not turn into an argumentative thread. The quality of arguments and the care with which they are presented tend go down as frequency of people calling each other asshats goes up. 9. Where do you read that?!? I merely meant that my intention was not to have people arguing over whether or not this was the case. I simply wished to understand the logic behind this. I have no intention of trying to "refute" any motivations. I simply want to hear them. You have kindly supplied me with some references, which I will have a look at (any suggestions for a good searchable online bible?). Thank you very much. Edit: Damn, you're a fast poster.
  10. Oh, I am actually not really interested in whether or not the Bible is the Word of God. I am merely wondering what the argument is and posing a few questions in that connection. I would simply like to hear from people who hold that firm believe how they "make it fit". 11. Disclaimer: I am no christian, and you are not going to convert me. However I have a question for the christians here. I often hear people refer to the Bible as "the Word of God". Wherein lies the justification of this position? Anyone will know that the texts were written by men. We even refer to these men by name (John, Luke...). The biblical canon was not fixed for several centuries after Christ (Clicky). Again the compilation was made by men. Were each and everyone of these men a direct instrument of God, or were they acting within the limits of their fallacies? If they were all direct instruments of God, isn't it a huge leap of faith to also extend this assumption to include every translator who has ever worked on the bible? If they were acting as "mere mortals", can it then be said that the Bible is not the word of God and at best it is a "tainted" version? Is some parts of the Bible are tainted by human fallacies, how do you determine which parts a good and which are bad? This discussion is relevant both for the old and the new testament. A lot of texts never "made it" into the final version of the old testament. Actually the Book of Enoch is a pretty good read

  13. Oh how I wish that there were more religious people like you. However, if you choose to take the bible literally then it does indeed blow science away, because then we're not allowed to look at the surrounding Universe and think. I once met a devout muslim who started studying astrophysics because it fit so well with the Qu'ran (is that how it is spelled?). He considered it homage to Allah to better himself in science. However, most other religious people I have met have considered it a virtue to be ignorant about the world around them. Luckily there are exceptions (also among physics professors at universities). 18. Ahh but you don't understand. The fossil record exactly supports the flood. When God started the floods the smallest animals were the first to die. Hence they are found in the lowest layers. 22. What really pisses me off is f*cking FORTRAN77-programmers who think they can code C++ in the same way they used to do with punch cards back in the day. I have just spent an entire day debugging some few thousand lines of code because some stupid [insert inflammatory language] had decided that it would be best for all concerned if the constructor of his little omnipresent container class rotated all momenta given in the constructor to align with the z-axis. AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!! I am sure it is because "everybody knows that you can get a 0.01% improvement in performance that way", BUT I DON'T CARE!!! So, are anyone pissed off by Geeks?
