International law is one thing. Common decency is quite another. Apparently the present administration is prepared to ignore both. The fact that you can put people in a legal limbo simply by detaining them off-shore does not make it right. C'mon... This is the most entertaining forum on dz.com. Where else would I get to see "lefties" and "righties" fight it out like that? Have you got any idea how much fun it is to a European to poke the ant hill of SC sometimes? Americans are so cute when they argue (jumps for cover ) EDIT: Speling is difycult... I fail to see how this can surprise anyone. There is not the country in the world the population of which would welcome a foreign occupation. Hypothetical example: Video footage of Tom Delay and GWB in hot gay love making unveils evidence that the Khmer Rouge were really on the White House payroll. At the same time it turns out that all the conspiracy theories of 9/11 were right. Understandably the noble Chinese and the Russians step up to the plate, invades the US and prepares to change the constitution to one "which is better for you". They could present all the rational arguments in the world as to why they were invading. Each and everyone of you would still see it as your duty to defend your country. (And please don't bash my analogy. I made it so ridiculous I could) A perhaps more realistic example is the feelings nurtured by many Hawaiians about the way it was... annexed into the US. Territoriality is a very strong feeling. HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde... -

He he... That's funny. The swastika has been used by just about any culture through history. You might as well have said it reminded you of your Buddhist or Hopi heritage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika http://www.locksley.com/6696/swastick.htm HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde... -

Just one thing. Can you imagine regretting writing too much? Write enough to be able to remember the jump when you reread the log book later. I write down the pro-track numbers as well as the persons I jump with. Then I make to columns Plan: This was the plan of the jump Reality: This was what happened including lessons learned such as "DON'T REACH FOR THE GRIPS YOU INCOMPETENT BRICK IN A JUMP-SUIT!"

240 lbs exit weight... Ahem... I live in Denmark. All we have are Cessnas. I did SL and threw streamers out the door till I was blue in the face to learn how to spot However, this project sort of ended up on hold: Clicky HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde...

Sorry, never got around to it. Ran into regs. It turns out that we have regulations about transition between round and square parachutes. It turns out I need to do some SL jumps, and that they will make me do a lot of T10 jumps before letting me move on to a PC. I am pretty damn certain these regs were made in the days where people went from round to squares, and I might try and push that point a little more. I also have to work a bit on my rigger to have him understand the merits of putting a round canopy in a modern rig. Apparently it has never been done in Denmark. In other words it turned into a long term project... HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde...

Never had to. I have had the pilot inform me of the weather and giving me the choice. I came down fine, although that Falcon 300 didn't give me much penetrating power. HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde...

That's funny. One of the threads yesterday here was about jumping "classic gear". That had me thinking of my rigger who has a collection of complete rigs going ~30 years back. Anyway, last night I dreamed I was going to try jumping his Para Commander. Only problem was I had to ask him all the questions. He wouldn't volunteer any information. I specifically had to ask how to use the capewells or whatever equivalent I dreamed up. Last thing I remember I was sitting next to him in a Porter. He was flying it. Only thing is that he is not a pilot and we have no Porters in Denmark.

There's nothing like having your own rig. All of a sudden you can actually practice your canopy flight (and your packing skills )on the same canopy every time. HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde...

Only if you read it in latin . Is the mathematics in understandable notation, or do you have to relearn a new notation for calculus? IIRC the dy/dx notation was due to Leibniz. It is sort of the reverse situation to the one in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I can just picture a whale (or a shark for that matter) looking up and thinking "What is that round thing coming towards me? I wonder if it will be my friend..." Way more than I needed to know about you... Now, you were contemplating a Stilletto 135 for your first canopy, right? HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde...

Well, you're more fun than the French. They always just rolled over and paid us to go away. Point taken. Actually it is happening again today. One of our exports to GB is... (drum roll) sperm! Donors have anonymity here . In other words we have gone from the holy trinity (rape, plunder, pillage) to actually getting paid. If that isn't progress... On a side note many words in the English language are inherited from ancient nordic.
