  1. It sounds like he just made the equivalent of Jimmy Carter's "malaise" speech. Republicans have been making the comparison to Jimmy Carter for a while now, and now the transformation is complete. He is the biggest failure of a president since carter.... 2. Yeap Fuck em Hopefully they don't blame us Americans for their women getting all uppity and decide to fly airplanes into our buildings again...... 3. So I have to ask, how did you feel rooming with her knowing she may be sexualy attracted to you? Would you feel the same way sharing a room like that with a man? How do you feel about co-eding the barracks? The reason I ask is because I have a few female freinds that are uncomfortable showering with lesbians. Don't mind working with them, just not comfortable naked in front of them. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 4. I just don't know how to answer.... Do I stand up for women's rights or do I respect another countries traditions.... Please liberal media, tell me what to think...... 5. So why did the UN whine to us to lead the coalition for the initial strikes in to Libya? Having worked with said military's on numerous occasions in Afghanistan and Iraq, I would have to say you are wrong. While they may be more efficient, the US is more specialized and in order to do this, our living conditions, work ethics, and the way we figure man power to handle a problem are way different. The end result is way different. All the the above military's that you mentioned envy ours, especially when it comes to good order and discipline. Still apples to oranges.... 6. I've never known a straight service member get kicked out for a single offense of being in the room of someone of the opposite sex - even if they're doin' it. However, I have seen demotions, NJPs, restriction, office hours, adverse fitreps (for E5's and above) and even people kicked out of a country for dickin' around. But never an OTH, DH, or GHC for a single offense - unless the the service member is gay, then its an unfavorable DD214 for the same single offense. I have seen several people kicked out with OTH's and General discharges (depending on if Adultery or other infractions were involved, along with service member history). It sounds like you may have worked for the Army. They have different standards.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 7. Well, honestly, I was thinking the money would be made up in 2 area's. 1. Imported items. Over seas companies don't pay taxes. American companies go over sea's to create tax shelters. The 9% sales tax address that problem. Right now this is the current tax rate these people are being hit with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tariff 2. These are flat tax rates. As i posted earlier, GE made $20 billion last year and actually got money back from the government because of subsidies and tax advantages. Under this new plan, that would go away. Everyone would pay there fair share. While the Corporate tax rate is 35%, established companies that can afford lawyers don't pay this. It's typically only the small business man. To expand on Item number one, this will also decrease the cost of business in America, which will allow us to be more competitive over seas, increasing jobs. My biggest problem that I have with the way the current US economy model is being ran is all manufacturing has pretty much left the country. This will increase the cost of importing while decrease the cost of exporting, hopefully moving a textile plant or 2 back from Singapore to the US. 8. Not even close. While 3 times 9 does, in fact, equal 27, that would NOT be the total taxes collected expressed as a percentage of GDP. Care to Expand on that? You are doing a horrible job arguing your case. This is what I get when looking at Taxes collected Vs. GDP http://www.deptofnumbers.com/blog/2010/08/tax-revenue-as-a-fraction-of-gdp/ "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 9. You didn't read my post very closely did you? Corporate tax rate is 35% That's a cost that is already passed to you when they sell their products. Reduce the Corporate tax rate to 9% and add a sales tax of 9%, your extra cost being passed to you is now 18% instead of 35% And if you decide to invest your money, you only pay the original 9% income tax. Just shuffling the numbers so taxes get applied in different areas to help benefit you a little more. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  10. Yes 9% is one of the nines. If you add up all 3 nines, you get a 27% total tax rate. Corporate tax, income tax, and sales tax. All the money going in and out gets hit at those 3 levels. Not just 9% and that's it.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  11. You obviously haven't spent any time in the military. Straight service members have been kicked out for this. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  12. The more I look into it, the more I like it. Here is the Meat and Potatoes of it: http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics/cain-touts-9-9-9-economic-plan-in-wsj-op-ed-20110915 I've done searches trying to find opposition or what anyone thinks might be wrong with this plan, and right now all the liberals are parroting this post: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/09/10/1015350/-The-danger-of-Herman-Cains-9-9-9-plan The author makes the argument that lower income families will have to pay a higher tax rate and a 9% sales tax will kill them. He also goes on to say that he wants people to be able to think for them selves. So I did that, and here is my counter arguments: 1. While there is a 9% national sales tax, it doesn't mean squat because the 35% corporate tax has been rescinded. With all cost eventually being pass to the consumer, the consumer still makes out. 2. The 9% becomes a consumption tax. You pay yourself first. If you put your money in savings, it doesn't get taxed. 3. This will lower the costs of American goods here in the U.S. that are shipped over sea's and raise the costs of items built by china and brought to the U.S. This will make us more competitive on the global market. It may even possibly move some jobs back to the U.S. An Article about corporate taxes: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/business/economy/03rates.html I'm also scratching my head trying to figure out how liberals are for a VAT tax, but not the 9-9-9 plan. They both raise the costs of goods. Another item I really like about the plan is that it levels the playing field for all businesses. There is no more favorites or subsidies. Companies make it on their own merits. It also means GE would pay taxes on it's $20 Billion in profits as loop holes will be closed. Also, companies will know exactly how much they will have going in and coming out. Consistency. They can hire accordingly. One last item. Herman Cain talked about "Economic Power Zones". Basically in low income ghettos getting tax breaks for companies that move in to further their development. Can't decide is that is good or not yet. We'll have to wait and see. 13. How? Added drama as described in post #23. It's already out there, no need to add to it, or take away the tools to control it as described in post #27. 14. Yes, even Hetero men can be just as big of drama queens, just watch Jersey Shore, or any other reality TV show out there. When people in general start "hooking up", drama will always follow. Who you date doesn't matter, it's just a fact of life. Yep, it's all fun and games until forcing policy down someone's throat gets you killed. Then it's hilarious.... 15. What does that have to with his opinion and observation? Santorum said "any type of sexual activity has no place in the military" ....so a troop can't bang his spouse or bf/gf? Pretty sad indeed that the soldier got booed and Santorum got claps. Whoooooshhhhh......... You have completely missed all the problems this is going to create. First of all, troops don't need to be bangin' each other on the battle field. You obviously don't know all the extra drama that creates. While in Iraq, a male and a female in my security detachment were "bangin". The female starts talking to one of the guys they are supposed to be protecting, and now threats start going back and forth. The guys that are supposed to be protecting me are now threatening me in a jealous rage. Do you see anything wrong with this picture? It would be funny if it didn't really happen. Second of all, now boyfriends can sleep together in the same room, girlfriends can sleep together in the same room, but boyfriend/girlfriend can't. Do you think that won't create any animosity? We might as well co-ed the barracks rooms/ showers at this point. But they shouldn't be sleeping together anyway. See above. Good order and discipline are a must in the military. Without it, people get hurt or worse. If you don't understand that bare necessity, you don't understand the issue. Wow, I wonder how the following countries have managed to deal with the issues he doesn't understand. Countries allowing gays in the military: Not going to go through the list individually, but let me paint things in 2 broad strokes: 1. Most European countries, the showers, barracks, etc, are already set up co-ed. Gays in there military pose no significant changes. Do you think we are as socially progressive as Sweden? 2. A lot of the other countries, well, who cares. Their military's are full of corruption and largely ineffective anyway. Good order and discipline are the least of their worries. You are seriously going to compare our military to Thailand's Military or the Philippine's Military? You are comparing apples to oranges. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 16. That's nice. Now do you have anything to say about DADT? Yes, Yes I do..... Under DADT homosexuals could serve, and if they roomed together, slept together, etc, and it became an issue, the chain of command could do something about it. Just like with the above mentioned people, because men and women aren't supposed to be in each others barracks rooms, the chain of command could do something about it. Now what do they do? You can't keep boys out of boys rooms or girls out of girls rooms. I have nothing against gays in the military. I think they should be allowed to serve like everyone else. But there are still a couple of issues that need working out that no one thought about. DADT was a good bridge. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 18. I understand what you are saying. My point is it doesn't matter if they died by lethal injection or infection, dead is dead. Just some ways tend to have more suffering than others. And just because you didn't actively partake in the killing of said criminal, doesn't make you any less responsible for his death. In these countries, yes they may be able to claim the moral high ground because they don't have the death penalty, but I would still much rather go through the American justice system than the Mexican justice system any day of the week. It is way more humane. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  19. Do you still consider it state sponsored murder if you lock someone up and let them die slowly of gang green, leprosy, meningitis, or hepatitis? Technically you didn't kill them, you just kept them incarcerated. Last I checked... our system does not allow for that.... in our prison system. If it is.... prosecute the jailors or wardens for abusing their positions of authority for allowing the abuse. I'm not talking about our prison system, I'm talking about others. If you are going to hold other countries up in such high regard and call them morally superior to us because they don't have the death penalty, then what about all the other aspects of the countries judicial system? A lot of countries, like the Philippines and Mexico, only think they have the responsibility to lock you up. Anything after that, like eating, is on you. Yet some people will say that because they don't have the death penalty, their judicial system is superior. It's kind of like saying that Cuba's health care is superior, just because the state provides it. Never mind that everyone who can get health care else where, goes elsewhere..... 21. I have as well... and isn't it amazing that MOST of the civilized world has put the death penalty into the trash heap of barbaric history. Even some of the third world shitholes I have been to.. have also decided that a life in prison without the posibility of parole, is a better solution than murdering their own citizens. Many of them are in the first generation of not murdering each other because of their religion or their tribal group, yet they have come to a point where barbarism and vengeance is no longer the answer. I have hope that perhaps our own country will get to that point someday. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_of_capital_punishment_by_nation I don't know, if I had the choice between death or life in a Philippine prison. What would I do.... Can I get back to you on that? Are we basing our decisions on what is most humane? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 22. And for the record while I don't think Troy Davis should get the death penalty, I think these guys should.... http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/21/nyregion/at-second-trial-over-murders-in-cheshire-conn-survivor-tells-of-attacks.html The more details that come up about what they did to his wife and daughters, the more I think they deserve it. 23. The guru of American conservative thought, William F. Buckley, referred to Alinsky as "very close to being an organizational genius." I'm sure Kallend appreciates the compliment. ETA: citation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saul_Alinsky I'm sure one could argue that Hitler was an "Organizational Genius" also. Does that mean you want to pick up what he was putting down? Ted Bundy was a certified genius. Was he using his powers for good? just because a guy is gifted, a natural leader, extremely smart or charismatic doesn't mean we should follow him. The biggest problem I have with Saul Alinski is that he has said that the end justifies the means. You can do what you need to do as long as the cause is justified. I have a problem with that. I have never seen a corrupted process produce an un-corrupted result. If you know of any let me know. Having traveled the world quite a bit, the one thing I have noticed is that how well a country does, how well off it's people are is really dependent on the level of corruption in the government, not necessarily the type of government. The crap I see going on right now really disturbs me. It's why I identify with the Tea Party. I want special interests out and I want accountability to the people. 24. Not the reference I used ** At least you admit the USA looks bad, so I guess that's progress. USA is still in lousy company, no matter whose source you use. Other countries that we keep company with: Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Nigeria... What lovely people. ** I used Amnesty International To say that the U.S. is the same moral equivalent as these other countries is a huge stretch, even for you. Have you been to these countries and seen there judicial systems and how they treat their prisoners? I have. You are reaching. When was the last time we executed a political prisoner? If you had a choice between prisons, would you rather go to Gitmo or a Mexican prison? Would you rather be tried in a Venezuelan court or an American court? Saying we are the moral equivalent of these other countries is a load of crap. If you want to have a discussion about the merits of the death penalty, then have one. Leading in with this junk is just trying to emotionalize, polarize, and sensationalize the issue so you don't have to discuss the facts. How very Saul Alinski of you. 25. Never mind found it. I now understand why Kallend didn't post the reference. If he did, the U.S. wouldn't look as bad.
