I went to the navy dive school. I have to say, my instructor was a weee tad meaner.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

I dive during the week as a part of my job. Then I skydive on the weekends. there has been more than one occasion where I have turned to the Accent to Altitude tables in the Dive manual and decided that maybe instead of skydiving on Saturday, I should wait until Sunday.... Has never effected my ability to dive on Monday though. Going deeper is never a problem..... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. That is exactly what my phone does. The only reason i still have a computer is becaue I haven't bought all the peripherals for my phone yet. That, and i don't have a way to stream internet from my phone to all the accessories in my house that use internet yet. But I'm sure those days are right around the corner. Would you support a wingloading BSR?

I voted "no" As already stated above, you can't teach common sense. There A lot of canopy pilots already went through some kind of progression to get into the canopy that they are in. After they get into that canopy, they start getting complacent and doing the things that get them killed. By putting this in place, what you are doing is making it harder for the responsible canopy pilots, yet doing nothing for the guys out there that will continue to swoop past the students in flight in the landing area. When reading the "incidents" section of "Parachutist", I see more poor judgement than poor canopy skills. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. That is what the motorola lap dock is for silly. Not to mention blowing up the porn so I don't have to watch it on a 3.4" screen. But I also have an HDMI port on my phone so I could plug it into the flat screen...... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. I don't know why. I do all my porn surfing on my phone, while I hide someplace where no one can see me..... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

I bought my Computer 3 years ago. I bought my Phone a couple of months ago. My phone has a 1.2Ghz dual core cpu, my computer has a 2.66Ghz dual core cpu. My phone has 1 gig DDR ram, my computer has 2 gig DDR ram. My phone has 32 gig memory, my computer has 320 gig memory. My phone has build in 5-10M/sec download and 2-4M/sec upload speeds that I pay $20 a month for, my computer has 7M/sec download and .7M/sec upload speeds that I pay an extra $45 a month for. My phone has a 8 megapixel camera that takes 1080p video, my computer has a 1.3 megapixel camera that takes video. I can video chat on both. Since I can get a laptop dock for my phone, I find my self asking why I need a computer any more? In a couple more years, phones will probably surpass my computer anyway.... Plus I can fit my phone in my pocket. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Shorty after getting my "A" license I bought a "zero P" canopy brand new. I lost several pounds learning how to pack it.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

Some laws have unintended side effects and some are just plain wrong. What's most telling is the piece on the taxis. They used regulations to create themselves a monopoly. The lobbyist obviously did his job to sell it to congress. This is exactly what happened with health care and why costs are so high. If you can legislate out the competition, you got free reign to do what you want. Regulations should be put in place to prevent stuff like Enron. To bad there are no lobbyists for that. "Thank you"? And thank you for your honesty... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

Not saying all regulations are bad. However, what do you have to say to the guy who had to sell his property to cover the legal bills because he wanted to build a house on it? Or the guy who spent 6 years in jail and lost his family and business because he brought lobster into the country in plastic bags instead of 40lb boxes? Or the little girl who had her lunch taken away because it wasn't healthy enough? Issues like these are what I feel need to be addressed. Some laws clearly pass boundaries. I know lawyers like to confuse issues, it's a part of their battle strategy, but this in not the courtroom. What do you think of the above examples? And Liberals are responsible for the other half of the insane laws that will steal your property and throw you in jail for selling lemonade. This isn't a party specific issue. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that republicans are innocent either. My chief complaint is how we are starting to become so over regulated that everything is illegal. I find my self voting republican because I find them them the lesser of 2 evils. But I also find myself leaning more towards being a libertarian on a lot of stuff. As a lawyer though, I but you find yourself making a lot of money interpreting all these regulations now a days. Simplifying stuff so people could do for them selves would just be bad business... John Stossel put together another outstanding report. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBiJB8YuDBQ Some of the things that are illegal: Opening a lemonade Stand. Building a house on your property after the government floods it. Buying/selling organic food. Growing the wrong tree in your yard. Bible study. filming police. The list goes on. What was really telling is the interview with the taxi lobbyist. In most places except Washington DC, you have to purchase a "medallion" to drive a taxi there. These Medallions go for a million dollars a piece (one per company). The lobbyist said this is a good thing because driving a taxi is a regulated industry and this will keep the little guy out. Big business stepping on the little guy again. Listen to how much he gets paid per hour and ask yourself if small business owners can afford a lobbyist. One of the things here that John doesn't mention but I found interesting was the case of the little girl who had her lunch taken away: http://blogs.ajc.com/get-schooled-blog/2012/02/14/a-turkey-sandwich-and-chips-from-home-versus-school-nuggets-sounds-like-a-toss-up-to-me/ Her lunch of a turkey & cheese sandwich, banana, chips and juice was deemed not healthy enough and was told to eat chicken nuggets from the cafeteria. 80,000 pages of new regulations a year and you don't see a problem with this? You can't step out onto your front yard without doing something illegal now a days. But this is what you get when you want big government in your life. Well, you can buy the gasoline powered equivalent for $20,000. That essentially is where Chevy went wrong. If you lay down $40,000 for car, you want to feel like you are driving a $40,000 car. I just find it funny that this thread is running along side this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4281283;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; Hope none of you are running for office soon.... P.S. I'll add my own brain teaser as soon as I find a good one. I guess a picture of Obama as a "Mog" (half man, half dog. He's his own best friend) is out of the question? Yes, one Republican committed voter fraud, and then was prosecuted. Is anyone even investigating all the democratic party allegations? No, they just get swept under the rug. (Minus Blagojovich of course. For a democrat to even get looked at the evidence has to be so "in your face" that it can't be ignored.) "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. federal judge says he forwarded email with racist Obama joke
jgoose71 replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
No, I said that because he is a judge who, through his own stupidity has tainted his own reputation, should do the honourable thing and resign. You, of course, are assuming that his reputation wasn't already tainted, or that he cares about his reputation. Aren't most federal judgeships life time appointments? Me, all judges are already on 2 strikes because most of them started life as a lawyer. A conscience requires a soul..... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Anyone who displays that "statue" at any high school full of adolescents and doesn't expect at least a giggle is either a little naive or a lot clueless. The real joke is the $100k spent on it. Also - a work of art "conveys" the message it conveys ...not necessarily the message intended to be conveyed by the artist. ETA - I think this sculpture conveys the message that someone is getting screwed out of a hundred grand. +1 My first 2 thoughts: 1- Why is the government spending $100 g's on this thing? 2- Why is it going in front of a high school? Look, space is big!!! During my time I spent as the tail gunner in the space shuttle, I was never hit by any of my own rounds! The size of space is what keeps most of our satellites from running into each other and being struck by meteorites and such!!! "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. I've always been fond of the Mickey Mouse watches. In the immortal words of George Carlin: "Is it 6:15, or does Mickey have a hard-on?" http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Womens-MK1006-Mickey-Mouse/dp/B002YK5W7U/ref=sr_1_6?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1330214502&sr=1-6 You have to imagine the watch reading 6:15........ The Crisis of Capitalism Is a Lack of Capitalism
jgoose71 replied to StreetScooby's topic in Speakers Corner
Don't disturb him, he's on a roll today. I guess neither of you followed his link, did you? When the left started following Saul Alinski's "Rules for radicals" they essentially said that there is no more need to be moral. We know better, the end's justify the means, and we will stack the deck in our favor. The problem is, when you start picking winners and losers, you start eliminating the rules of fair play. The rules of fair play is what makes capitalism work. For America to turn around, the government needs to repeal the current rules and put new rules in place that level the playing field and put some teeth in the rules that punish people who step out side the lines. Week agencies like the SEC that allowed Bernie Madoff to thrive need to be seriously overhauled. And last but not least, the media needs to start doing it's job. Less commentary and more fact based, well researched news. Most of the news agencies out there are paid propaganda arms that are incapable of an honest conversation. Those that try to have an honest conversation are often screamed out because "if there not 100% backing my guy, we have to label them as liars so we can get our guy in power." But I guess that is what is to be expected when you turn away from morals and take a "the ends justify the means" approach. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Honestly, I wouldn't care. As long as the chamber for the cremation is "ceremonial" and the person has the option to collect the ashes in an urn as soon as all is said and done, does it really matter? For me if I was cremated at such place, the real question is if the guests would be able to throw a kick ass pool party/wake afterwards on the pool deck. Bikini's/Speedo's and a drink are the required attire..... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." an aimed 22 can only do moderate damage. A stray one...no, not really. You'd have to be rather unlucky. A typical rifle round, otoh, can go through quite a few walls. Me personally, I'm still trying to find an article where a law abiding citizen started firing rounds at random into populated areas..... Just to clarify. An AK74 is a .22. Actually a 5.45 mm or .214. So is an M16. at 5.56mm or .218 Robt. Kennedy was killed by a .22 revolver. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying.
