Health insurance ‘haves’ to pay for ‘have-nots’?
NWFlyer replied to Butters's topic in Speakers Corner
You say that as if it's not already happening today. How do you think hospitals pay for all the "uncompensated care" that comes through their ER doors? The costs of the entire system, including charity care, are spread across those who are actually paying into it. This proposal just makes it more direct. Your other option if you're heading towards CO is to call up Moab and find out if they're jumping. They primarily do tandems, but are very welcoming to up jumpers who want to hop on if there's loads going up. I did that a few years back and it was one of the more spectacular places I've jumped. Since you'll probably be doing a solo just pull high and enjoy the view ... you'll also get the scenic airplane ride that the tourists pay 5x as much for! Balloon Jump (didn't get out)
NWFlyer replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had just over 200 jumps when I did my first and only balloon jump. There are photos of me climbing out and the look on my face is probably exactly like the look on my face that first day I climbed on the strut of a Cessna. I think my biggest fear was that I was going to end up half in and half out and somehow snag my foot and end up with a random clumsy injury. Need advice for attaching chem lights for night jumps

Oh hell, I used gaffer's tape for an emergency gripper repair, then forgot about it and ran it through the wash a couple times before finally taking it back to my jumpsuit manufacturer for repair several months later ... it still came right off. It's magic. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke -
15:5:0 15 for 15 minutes of tunnel time at iFlySFBay on Thursday night (close enough to the weekend). 5 totally fun jumps (2 5-way and 3 4-way) at Skydance on Saturday on an unseasonably cool and beautiful day (I don't think it broke 75). I wonder if we can order up that weather for the American Boogie in a few weeks?

Thus stimulating the local economy! Brilliant! "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Oh, sorry. I thought you were saying "no big change since it's already controlled access." Nevermind. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Yes, but that's a big difference from having to make a trip to a physician for an Rx, pay for some or all of that visit, and then take that Rx to the pharmacy. In my current health care situation, I could do that all electronically (email to my doctor, have him send the Rx to the pharmacy), but for a lot of folks, getting a prescription still involves a visit to a doctor. You can't come up with any better things to do with your time? Yes, let's drastically increase the cost of a box of sudafed by making a prescription required. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=%2Fn%2Fa%2F2009%2F06%2F02%2Fstate%2Fn175150D33.DTL&type=politics "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Agree with what others have said about the mini-fridge. Check to make sure that a microwave is allowed before you get one of those. I think they weren't allowed in my dorm "back in the day." A fan. No A/C in our dorms, and the heat was always on during certain times of the year, regardless of whether there was an unseasonal warm spell. So we used the windows/fans as our A/C... year round (in Virginia!). Any other ideas I have, a young man would probably scoff at ... like shower caddys for toiletries (assuming shared bathrooms). Lodi Facing Million Dollar Lawsuit

Remember that regardless of what they charge, the hop and pop person is still taking a seat that could have gone to altitude. Wendy P. Exactly. I suspect the (relatively) high price for H&Ps at most DZs is due more to opportunity cost than fuel cost. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. I don't think you're wrong. Interesting piece on NPR this morning that catches up with three of the protestors today ... and the different paths their lives have taken. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=104821771&sc=fb&cc=fp "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Damn you!!! My Netflix queue already has 297 titles on it ... even if you knock out the TV series, that's probably still 200+ movies!!!!! I like the top 10 genres. Of those, I've only seen all 10 in Animation (and that's making an assumption that I saw Snow White and Pinocchio as a kid, because I haven't as an adult). Perfect example. So do you have any that YOU should have seen by now but haven't? Hmm... GoodFellas is the one I can think of off the top of my head that I've only seen bits and pieces of. Same with Better Off Dead. Those are two that seem to have lots of pop culture zeitgeist around them that I haven't seen. The Princess Bride. I just mocked someone recently for not seeing that one. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
