    The swamp

What a wonderful day for Jesus.
  2. I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I put my position forward. Which basically is that America would be better off if it could get it's shit together and give up it's lust for killing machines. I know that the obstacles are huge and that some are immovable. I have no real answer for what can be done, but I support ANY measures that reduce the number and /or potency of the killing machines that abound. That said, it is not high on my list of daily concerns. I spend around a third of my time in America and being there does not frighten me. It is more of an interesting and stimulating conversation that I have here in a mostly theoretical context. When others propose limited solutions that are not really solutions it does not affect me in the same way as when people claim that nothing can be done. Or even worse, the answer is more killing machines in the hands of more people. As far as religion goes, I support everyone's religious views. Unless they use them to try to impose moral views on others "because God wants it that way".
  3. So the, your position is that you support some kind of a ban? But reserve the right to mock and ridicule others who support a different ban, or who do so for different reasons? You are confusing me, but thankfully it's almost DZ time and it will soon be out of my mind. Emotional arguments can exist along side rational ones. They are not mutually exclusive.
  4. I can not for the life of me understand how anyone can defend that man. The fact that more than a third of Americans either are willing to overlook his flaws or just plain agree with his positions has opened my eyes to a scary part of human nature. And I can see that it is not just an "American" thing. The only thing uniquely American about Trump is that the American political system allowed him to become POTUS with such low levels of support and many better options.
  5. This deplorable claims there is not hatred or bigotry here as he works to spread hatred and bigotry in the name of the Lord. https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/08/us/new-jersey-mayor-lgbtq-comments-affront/index.html
  6. There are three kinds then. You left out allies.
  7. Science treats skeptics by saying "show me". Science is very conservative by nature. In the true sense of the word, not the political.
  8. Deplorable in MT punishes child for not being patriot enough. https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/08/us/national-anthem-boy-assault-montana/index.html The deplorable's mouth piece is saying that being under the influence of Trump is partly to blame. Lance Jasper, Brockway's attorney said his client has a severe traumatic brain injury and has problems with impulse control. Between that and being a disabled veteran who is "uber patriotic," Jasper said Brockway is influenced by the rhetoric of President Donald Trump. Referring to times the President has spoken out against athletes and others that kneel or protest during the National Anthem and when he suggested possible jail time or loss of citizenship for burning the American flag, Jasper said, "Curt takes that literally and views the president as the commander in chief and when he sees it happening, he feels he needs to do something about it." Jasper said Brockway expressed remorse the child was hurt. "He told me 'I guess I messed up because he got hurt. But I'm a patriot,'" Jasper said.
  9. What is the maximum killed and injured number for this type of attack?
  10. Direct cut and paste from the About section of Scott Presler's FB page. Scott Presler spent 2 years of his life working to defeat Hillary Clinton. We did it! Now, he’s dedicating his time to reelecting President Trump in 2020. We must focus on registering NEW Republican voters #VoterRegistration He is not, by his own description, about serving under privileged communities. He is about working to re-elect and promote Trump. I repeat, STUNT. If you can not see that simple fact then you are choosing not to.

    Screed

From where I sit, it's just you. But unlike you I have not noticed it being used a lot lately. I will be watching for it now.
  12. Are you STILL looking for a way to call your skydive from an aircraft a BASE jump?
  13. If he forms an organization and continues to do these sort of good works then I will change my opinion and believe he is sincere. But my money is on stunt. If he quietly did good work in an area he had connections to, that's one thing. But no, what he did was to organize a media circus in an area the Trump has called out because of political opposition. How can you possibly believe this is anything but a stunt? You know it is a stunt, and you yourself are posting it in a way that calls attention to the stunt. The most important thing to you about the stunt is that you can say with glee that "leftists are irritated". It was meant to be an irritating stunt right from the start.
  14. Perfect. Now if only Hobby Lobby would sell fusion device kits. Or Chik-Fil-A, but only Monday to Saturday.
  15. What Trump actually said: On Aug. 15, 2017, President Donald Trump held a press conference to discuss an executive order he had signed on infrastructure permitting. Reporters shortly began asking questions about Trump’s initial response to violent protests in Charlottesville, Va. It was at this press conference that Trump said that "you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides." It is true that many people have taken those words and given meanings to them that fit their beliefs about Trump. He did not call Nazis fine people. He is far more subtle and nuanced than that in his catering to and seeking support of white nationalist types. The problem is that the rally with those "fine people" was made up of people with associations to hate groups on one side and protesters against them on the other. It is more than a little nauseating that the POTUS would give the impression that these two groups of people are morally equal.
  16. I just wrestled with this yesterday. I already had VLC media player installed because it is truly free and has no nag screens and pretty much can play anything. It is not a video editor, but can save portions of any video quickly and easily. It works with any video that it can play. Instructions here: https://www.vlchelp.com/cut-trim-videos-with-vlc-media-player/ You may already have it installed. If not, go here. https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html Like I said, this is not an editor. It is far simpler but can not do much.
  17. I'll take the black people. They seem to do well at football. And there are lots of poorer ones willing to risk their brains for their chance at glory and riches. As long as they are led by a white QB, head coach, manager, and owner that is. BTW, diversity in society does not mean the same thing that you are seeming to think it does. Racism, sexism and hatred or just dislike of the other has always existed. It is part of the progress of man (in the non-sexist meaning of the word) to do our best to limit it and to give everyone equal opportunities. Which is at the heart of at least part of your message. The other part of your message is a reluctance to admit or agree that some people have systemic disadvantages that are unfair. And you clearly hold onto the resentment that some of the majority culture who do not suffer from this unfairness have against any effort to remediate this. All I can say is too bad, suck it up. In the end the amount of help being given or proposed is far smaller than the harm that has been done over the years. It is not a zero sum game. You do not lose when others get help. Everyone gains, although perhaps not evenly.
  18. There is probably no one home there this week. It's Lost Prairie Boogie time.
  19. This morning I looked up the HS code for parachutes. It is 8804.00.00.00 . When I put that number into the calculator you linked to it shows a tariff rate of 3% for imports from NZ. Sales taxes are another matter. You are likely required to report the importation to your state tax agency and voluntarily pay the sales tax. No one ever does that.
  20. Clearly, less people will die if their killers have less efficient killing machines. Clearly some will still die. Those two statements are reasonable truths. The real question is whether or not the number of lives saved is worth the inconvenience and disappointment lovers of killing machines will feel if they are in some small way restricted. And no, your religion does not require you to feel any particular level of compassion towards the parents of the victims. You are free to continue to just send out Ts and Ps and still consider yourself saved. Like anyone else.
  21. And your argument is just the typical one the NRA makes. Like them you just don't have the guts to come out and just say it. Namely, "it's too bad about all the deaths, especially the kids, but it's worth it so that we can have our killing machines". Everyone's gotta die sometime.
  22. Just in time to put some context in here. NPR story about how the USA compares to other nations. Apparently your killing machine success rate is on a par with some, but not all "shithole countries". And about ten times that of Canada, even though we just has a bad weekend in Toronto. https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2019/08/05/743579605/how-the-u-s-compares-to-other-countries-in-deaths-from-gun-violence
  23. He was not saying that to you. He was accusing you of saying that to others, metaphorically. It's tough to communicate here sometimes.
  24. There are many ways in which the rights of people in the USA to bear arms are infringed currently. It is a moving line, it has moved before and it will move again.
