  1. There was no right wing media and no social media then. But the nation was seriously divided nonetheless.
  2. Except that those are merely the first 34 of many convictions likely to follow. He could easily become 45 again.
  3. You and all of us could also take the view that it is not a shameful day for America. Rather it is a day that shows the strength of the system in its ability to hold such a person accountable. It is a shameful day for Trump but a proud day for the nation.
  4. Yes, you disagree with Jerry. But do you disagree with Mike Johnson. Knowing that he finds the verdict shameful, not his criminal leader?
  5. There is currently record cold happening in Chile. It all balances out. They are wearing sweaters and gloves and such. https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/18/americas/chile-may-temperature-cold-intl-latam/index.html#:~:text=After an eight-day “cold, with the Chilean Meteorologic Directorate.
  6. And random chaos. You forgot random chaos.
  7. As a libtard I am a strong believer in rehabilitation of felons. I would suggest 3 months or so in a NY penitentiary followed by a few more in a halfway house and then full parole. That would probably help him to mend his ways.
  8. The effect of this verdict is hard to predict. But Trump's spin is not. He will posistion this as NY state elite Ds against all the little people in the rest of the nation who he is fighting for. And it may go over well in places like Georgia and Michigan and other swing states.
  9. It will take a long time to get such a case out of the State system and before Federal courts.
  10. Maybe we could set up a Go Fund Me to try and buy Keith's vote.
  11. So, are you saying that the cure for cancer is less elusive than the cure for Trump?
  12. From where I sit I see that most of the problem of polarization and the election of extremes, especially on the right, mainly stems from the unique American primary system and the lower turnout in those crucial contests.
  13. They didn't teach that on FOX or Trump U.
  14. I suppose that it is mostly because no one here really wants to jump into this complex set of issues with no good answers, but I am still surprised that we have no thread on it. On the other hand I don't want to start it either. Hamas being destroyed is an illusion. The best you could really hope for is a name change.
  15. There definitely is a pattern here. The age of consent and the level of protection from the sexual exploitation has been steadily increasing for at least 150 years. It is a direct result of liberalism and the decline of religion. Things that were once tolerated are no longer. Men go to jail for long periods of time for having immoral photos on their hard drives and police forces have members dedicated of finding them. There is more effort being made to understand pedophilia and why it exists. You are in error thinking that this means our society may someday tolerate the abuse of children. What it really means is that we are working harder to prevent it. That is the pattern. The "left" believes in protecting children. Childhood marriage is a conservative and largely a religious based belief in paternalism and the leadership of strong men who take what they want. It is a problem of the extreme right, not liberals.
  16. You can try all you want to justify it, but Israel has gone too far. And it is going to damage itself in the end. And yes, an unfortunate increase in anti-semitism will flow from it.
  17. Since you have now come out I will too. My series of Iphones are the only Apples products I have ever owned. I watch cooler younger people struggle to do simple things on their very superior and complex Android devices and just shrug my shoulders thinking how easy I have it compared to them. It just works.
  18. Winsor seems to dislike female D politicians almost as reflexibly as he does Muslims. I'm not sure what to make of it. The general hate on the right for Hillary seems to be the result of a long term focused slander campaign in the FOX and friends media. The hate goes beyond ordinary political dislike and seems visceral.
  19. The same way you explain black people who owned slaves.
  20. Look at the title of this thread and try to imagine it not leading to Rs feeling that they are being called nazis.
  21. Who? No lifelong politician at this level gives up power willingly. Someone would have had to take it from him. The roster of potential nominees in 2020 contained no one better.
  22. All people are racist to some extent, including black people and other minorities. It's part of tribalism and being human. But we can each control our behaviors. Trump and it seems many conservatives choose to use that fact to divide us from each other and gain power through manipulating our feelings. None of us can really ever know what is in another's heart. So we must judge them by their actions. The current leader of the R party behaves in a racist manner and since he is the leader the others are followers. Clearly his followers are willing to accept his racism. That means they are behaving in a racist manner. This is not stereotyping, this is fact.
  23. I can’t keep up. I’m just not smart enough I guess.
