And even if America needs the product shipping it by rail will not increase the price those refineries pay. The increased cost will be paid out of the profits of the producers in Alberta. That is the reality of the market and that is why there is zero political cost for Biden to kill the project.

America has no need for that particular pipeline. And likely never will, that's why there is no real political cost for killing it.

In Canada gas is currently about $1.05/litre including a small but scheduled to rise carbon tax. Jump tickets are......about $35 plus tax! Health insurance is covered by those taxes.

I don't really see why he needs to offer up any defense at all. It is not a legal question being decided, if is purely a political matter. Guilt or innocence is not being decided. What is being decided is the direction of the R party and the immediate future of the American democratic process. Nothing more and nothing less. He will not show up, he will not send lawyers.

At this point we just can not say what effect this newish class of coronavirus is going to have in the long term. It is still possible that it could mutate into something that will have a major impact on human life for a long time. Or, it may do what a virus usually does. Which is evolve into something that spreads well, but is not virulent enough to kill its host, or weaken it so much that it may as well be dead. We have far better technology available to us today that we have never had before. Along with tools to understand the disease process and how to interrupt it. Impatient people who are not willing to tolerate the inconvenience of modifying their lifestyle for a time while we take advantage of the nearly incomprehensible advantages that have been developed just need to be ignored or pushed into the corners they belong it. It comes as no surprise at all that they are the same people who also drag their feet in the battle to get CO2 levels under control in order to preserve the environmental conditions that have allowed us to flourish on Earth for the past 10,000 years or so as we developed our understanding and rose from our previous state.
