    I have no doubt that would trigger a very deep anger. And if not repealed it will force him into who knows what kind of actions. I only have about 26 hours left in my timetable for the resignation I predicted.

    Nothing from Ron for a few days. Sunday morning is a normal time for him to offer up his excuses for the bad behavior of his ilk. I wonder what he will come up with tomorrow? He must be pretty disappointed that the putsch went nowhere.

    The McVeigh threat? Mostly ignored because they are white Christians and not outsiders. The most significant thing done to prevent a repeat is restrictions on large ammonium nitrate purchases. As demonstrated this week their white privilege mostly allows them to escape the scrutiny of most LEOs. Only dedicated units of the security apparatus pay them any attention at all, and under the current administration their resources have been slashed.

    Racist is as racist does. Not as it says. I don't think I have ever seen the temperature in this room quite as high as it is now. It is a time for cool heads and careful reflection before posting. Just because the side that is losing gets all frustrated and says things that are ridiculous is no reason to honour their foolishness with an angry reply. If something ridiculous is said, the appropriate response is ridicule. Not anger. It is not that hard to make an idiot appear idiotic. You don't have to call him names, you just have to hold up a mirror to his face. Let billvon be your inspiration. He generally manages to make fools look like fools without ever using the word fool.

    IDK if your post means you think Elaine Chao has decided against being one of the secretaries to invoke the 25th. But I would think that making the resignation not effective till Monday is leaving the possibility open until then. The official said Chao's decision to resign on Monday -- not immediately -- was done in order to give her staff time for an orderly departure and transition. Chao discussed the matter with her staff and her husband, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, before deciding by around 11 a.m. that she would resign.

    Also not what I said. I made no prediction of future events at all. I just said that there has not been a previous successful insurrection. I would also say that yesterday's events were not even close to one either. They were a massive failure of the security forces to anticipate and prevent though. There may be an element of co-operation with the Trumpistas in that which warrants a very thorough investigation. And heads need to roll for allowing it to happen. But they are likely heads that would roll shortly anyway.

    How many people voted for Trump just because it felt so cool to have a completely unqualified outsider with a big streak of asshole in him to put the establishment in its place? Yup. first the warm fuzzy feelings, then the consequences.

    IDK much about the mechanics of how that would work. But if it could be done and finished today or tomorrow then yes, probably for the best. But most likely that would be seen as escalating the situation into a constitutional crisis. I don't really have a good answer if the risk in the next 12 days justifies that unprecedented action. My gut feeling is that you will just have to wait it out. Hopefully he has responsible babysitters. I believe Jared is outside of the country ducking his head.

    I'm going to disagree with that one. The events of yesterday show how hard it would be to make it happen. There has never been a successful uprising in the USA. The last successful territory wide uprising preceded the formation of the nation and the civil war failed to destroy it.

    That is the most outrageous attempt at unwarranted rationalization I can recall seeing here. It's just the same as saying she was asking to be raped because of the clothes she was wearing. The electorate is not at fault. Trump is at fault for his behavior and his supporters are at fault for theirs.
