  1. It's not really like a criminal trial. He can't be put in jail. It is a question of whether or not his conduct was so inappropriate that he should be barred from office. Most people understand that is was. The senate Rs also understand that 35% of the population think differently. And they need those people if they hope to hold onto their very high office. In other words protecting their jobs is more important than protecting the office of the POTUS. The main thing protecting the system from Trump is now the ban from Twitter and Facebook. Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg suddenly have even more weight on their shoulders and are acting more responsibly than the political establishment. Luckily they both have far more intestinal fortitude than the likes of Moscow Mitch.
  2. Trump is acquitted. but in the process the GOP has convicted itself.
  3. I'm not sure that anyone is objecting to any nicknames I have heard for Biden. People always use disparaging names for politicians they don't like. It's roughly the same as drawing unflattering caricatures. The only one that I ever found consistently annoying was Ron's blatantly nativist use of Hussein for Obama.
  4. Moscow Mitch is now saying he will vote to acquit. Dude is saying "it was a close call". Gutless. He is using the "no jurisdiction excuse".
  5. People often used the kind of language and disrespect that Trump himself used in describing him.
  6. Why would Soros be interested? It sounds more like a job for Elon. He is making Bitcoin defy logic and perhaps even gravity. Maybe a crypto-1000 way is next.

    covid-19

Canada did not approach either the US nor the EU. Our government did make deals with Moderna and with Pfizer/BioNTech. Those companies are supplying us from their EU plants. We are getting doses mostly because like the US we agreed to buy them on a guaranteed basis pending approval before they were approved. The US is not permitting any export of these vaccines to anywhere in the world at this time. And I do not fault them for that. The pace of supply to Canada is now picking up as production bottleneck problems are getting solved. There is now a Calgary based company preparing to test an mRNA vaccine. This could become important in the future if it turns out that vaccination against mutated varieties becomes needed yearly.
  8. Apparently he served twice. He enlisted in the army at 15 years old with fake ID. Was honourably discharged and later enlisted in the navy and became a radar operator until again honourably discharged. I'm not sure that is the service you are referring to though.
  9. My fault and I'm probably wrong. It is likely just my bias that makes me feel they are correlated.
  10. Which of the four Horsemen does that represent?
  11. Interestingly the same man executed both the innocent and the guilty men in this crime.
  12. Wendy, did you happen to notice the racism inherent in his handle?
  13. Trump has already played all the cards he’s ever going to get at the big table. He is now down out of the special room with the big players and his cards no longer matter. He is a loser now

    covid-19

Canada has no production of vaccines. It must depend on other nations to export it. The US will not be exporting any, and so we rely on EU willingness to do so. That could easily disappear at any moment. Why does Canada not have a domestic supply is the question.
  15. What a terrible idea secret ballot would be in any elected chamber. If it happened it would be the ultimate Trumpian destination of democracy.
  16. Yes of course Ron. Because obviously that’s the way God wants it! Wait a minute, didn’t she create Adam and Eve and aren’t all of us brothers and sisters?
  17. It was remarkably successful. But not repeatable.
  18. I’m an optimist. Also a liberal. My belief is that they are the same thing and just like you say they both have a spectrum .

    covid-19

My wife got the second Pfizer dose last week. She had no reaction to either of them.
  20. Is that more or less than the cost of taking him golfing for four years?
  21. By not yet. Lake Winnipeg from Gimli this AM....
  22. Yes, it would need some form of resistive electrical heating to cover all situations. I'm guessing the battery system is powerful enough to keep someone alive in the cabin for a long time. Just not by recovering heat from the environment.
  23. I think we should try to find a way to talk about criticizing Biden in this thread sometime soon. I just looked at the thread title and asked myself "How did we get here"?
  24. If progress is always in the right direction why do right wingers call progressives leftists?
