I was talking to my jm one day during AFF, and he asked me what I thought I was going to get as gear...I told him a Stiletto. I watched him swallow hard, choke a bit, turn really red in the face and then pale rapidly, run a hand through his hair, and murmur "fuck".... Suffice it to say I was teasing him, but I felt badly because I guess he thought I meant it. When I buy, I am getting a Spectre. Stilettos will still be around later when I know what the hell I'm doing. Right now, I need a canopy which will forgive my beginner mistakes. I may get a better deal on another kind of canopy, but that's not the most important part right now, you know? After a personal equipment failure last summer, I now wear a good, solid bra, cotton undies, sox and tennis shoes double knotted, long pants, a skydiving shirt, a heavy cordura jumpsuit which I borrow from Square 1, hair french braided and then tucked again under my goggle strap. I value my skin, and because I can't land really well yet, I figure the more layers between my skin and the ground, the better. Someday I will land better, and I will be able to afford a jumpsuit which is pretty, but until then, it's the above... It seems I'm giving my condolences a lot lately, and I want to stop. At least for a while. So, this weekend, I am asking a personal favor from all of you: Be careful. If you are a low number jumper, don't hook. If you decide to try hooking this weekend, get some instruction from someone who knows what they are doing. And if they say "you're not ready", listen to them. If you know how to hook, get instruction on how to do it better - from someone who knows how. Sit out a jump if you're feeling rushed. Slllllllllloooooooowwwwwwww down... the load may not wait, but the sky will. Learn something new about safety this weekend. Even if you think you know it all, find something new to learn. You can't know it all - so learn something, and then put it into practice. And practice your emergency procedures over and over and over. Teach new jumpers something this weekend - something about gear, or safety, or how to determine winds. Take one of us aside, and educate us. If you see someone doing something which puts them or others in danger, for God's sake, open your trap and say something. Silence is NOT golden if it could kill you or someone else. I'm getting off my soapbox now. But please, please...I don't want to send any more condolences this weekend. Stay safe, as safe as you can be. Updating the info as of right now: A 27 y/o male was arrested who lived in Lake Elsinore "in connection with" this horrific crime. They served several warrants on him, his mother and sister, and have seized quite a lot of potential evidence. I am certain that they will be serving warrants for DNA and blood, hair and semen samples, as well. He has a record, it is thought. He was charged with the molestation of two girls, and a possible third girl, tried and acquitted for these crimes several years ago. His former girlfriend (and a mother to one of the first victims) called and tipped the local police off as to Alejandro Avila (the name being reported). His mother stated during an interview that he (Alejandro) had called her and told her he was at the Ontario mall at the time the snatching occurred. She said she heard airplanes during their talk. (If he was in the mall, how could she have heard airplanes???) If so, there should be phone records and possibly a receipt. They have released the 911 tape of the people who found little Samantha, and it is horrible to listen to - grown men that freaked and scared. There was something pretty evil about the way this child was left to create that kind of reaction in the finders, but more importantly, in the cops who investigated the scene. I cannot recall a time where there was such languaging used during a press conference. That press conference was chilling. Yes, this is a horrific crime. If he did it, chopping him up is too good for him. Give him his due process, then take him off the planet. While it may or may not deter someone else from doing it, it will make damned sure he will not do this again. In the first five seconds, I am still scrutinizing the canopy for defects, murmuring "Thank You, God", looking around for other people/canopies, and checking my alti and maybe starting to reach for the rear riser to turn toward the DZ. I haven't even gotten the slider stowed yet. Um, perhaps the natural looseness would be o.k. for now, and once I'm more used to this incredible thing we do, I'll try to loosen it more. So, if I can get away from work, I will try to get to Perris this weekend, although right now that does not look too likely. Sorry, Sharkie, I don't need to do a re-currency jump - I jumped right before I got surgery, which was 5 weeks ago, and so am still current. but Cpntsttn, yes, let's make a jump as soon as we are both at the dz at the same time! Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! I just can't wait!

Um, perhaps a woman should answer this (cause you have lost weight, Clay, and no longer have "man Boobies"...lol...)...But my chest strap does loosen some as I open, because it gets above my breasts under canopy, but is fastened tightly under them when I gear up. Should I loosen it more than it "naturally" goes, or is that enough? (And no, I am not a small chested woman...and yes, it can hurt as the strap travels...lol...). Also, what should I expect to feel if I loosen my chest strap more? Really odd questions, I know. Just wondering.
