The main L/O turned me down 4 times - and gave me crapola about being on ESPN, too...as a matter of fact, he has NEVER invited me on any load, other than 2 two-ways for my coach jumps, but that was because I was packing for him while learning to pack (perhaps a corelation here?) The other two turndowns were: one from someone I had jumped with in the past, and one from someone who is very experienced and not willing to "jump with a newbie" (their words)...the main L/O suggested I jump with someone, but that particular person is not necessarily safe, even though he has more jumps than me, and so I didn't feel safe with him in the least. Actually, the only L/O I have ever jumped with is Linda Hardesty (our very own Hot Tamaly)...other than that, I have only jumped with Lisa (The Bytch rawks!) and John Brasher (Jbrasher rawks too!). I have been asked to jump by Cptnstrtn, and Albi, and Steve (not SBS), but haven't been able to make those jumps for whatever reason (usually I'm tired by then). The problem is that people with the very low jump numbers that I have are worried about safety (both our own and others'), and because of that, I know that I am hesitant to get in the air with people of similar jump numbers - but perhaps that's something I have to get over... I still think you and I should "just jump!", but I know you get really busy with your camera stuff. And BTW, I have learned how to control my fall rate so that Lisa's thing recorded 124mph (twice), and not the 143 I had been doing. Yeah, Quade, it really does piss me off, too. See, I do understand that safety is first. I have no problem with that. It's when you don't kiss ass well enough, or aren't in the "in" crowd, or whatever. I don't care how busy it gets at Perris - when there is a skills camp going, with lots of people jumping at the camp, and two other LO's working, there shouldn't have been a reason I was turned down 6 times, you know? Please, please please do that. The last time I was at "my" dz, I was turned down 6 different times (from several different people, including the L/O) I was not given a reason, or an alternative, and not once was I "allowed" to participate. I did one solo, and left. Had someone decided to hook up with me, it would have been a great day - as it was, I left feeling like I was a) unwanted, b) incapable and c) ignored. Not only do I agree with most of what you said, DBatt, but I'll add one or two thoughts of my own. ~Remember the helmet law? The seatbelt law? How'd those get started? ~There's a criminal lawsuit pending back east somewhere against a friend who "let a friend drive drunk"...yet this friend wasn't even at the party. Those are the only additions I can think of right now...but they are in the same vein. As to your comments about juries, having had that experience (and it's one everyone should have - teaches you more about "the system than anything else) - and being the one who was stuck with a stupid jury for 5 days' deliberation...and yes, I hung the jury based on (the lack of ) evidence. But it's not just because juries are stupid, I think it's also because there develops a "group" mentality, and peer pressure becomes enormous. I was "physically assaulted" (poor asshole didn't realize I was a blackbelt, and Irish to boot - gotta love that temper! LOL)(and I put that in quotes because he didn't beat on me, but he did touch me "inappropriately"). One of the jurors approached me halfway through the trial and told me they already knew the defendant was guilty, before the defense even started...yada yada yada... Yes, they will settle. But will you buy the lowfat soyburger at Mickie D's? I won't. When I go through the Golden Arches, it's my ass which is gonna pay the price (and I have seen the insides of many McD's...lol...). The old saying goes: you can't legislate against stupidity. However, I will say their attempts to prove that saying right results in damages to the rest of the population. Morning! Since more than a few of you have asked about how this came about, here's how it happened... I have my cutaway on Level 3. I write the post "Man, I owe so much Beer", and somehow it manages to touch you guys. Sangiro puts it on the front page. I decide to submit it to Parachutist and Skydiving, but get turned down because it "doesn't appeal to a wide audience". Over the next several months, I get a few e-mails from other websites asking if they can post the story, and I agree (but only if they link back here - gotta give HH his credit, too!). Then, it all quiets down, and I basically forget about it. I go through the surgeries, and, with this last one, don't check my e-mail for about 2 weeks. Once the headaches have lessened, I can get through the backlog, and can rip the bandage off my eye, I see that someone has e-mailed me. I read the message, and crack up. I figure it's one of you guys trying to cheer me up from having surgery, so I call the number. Guess what? It's real. I run a check on the name of the production co (offshoot of ESPN - local subcontractor or something), and verify that these people are real, and honest, and it's true. But it's still in the talk stage, and I don't believe it. Two weeks ago, I did a phone interview with the producer, and she agrees that she wants to use the story, if we can get it timed right. Well, knowing the industry, it's still about 98% chance that it's not gonna go. In any event, it's the funniest thing, so I tell my family - Dad in particular is in hysterics over this (he now leaves messages for me as "Airweenie"). And then....the call yesterday. That's how it came about. I had nothing to do with it, and really thought that one of you did this. But no, it looks like chance played the leading role in this joke. And no, I haven't figured out how to get people to 'sponsor' me...or get new gear out of it. I haven't got an agent, and I know that they are paying the school and my JM's, but I dunno how to finagle it. Oh well, I doubt Tonysuit or Wings could get something together in 12 days anyway... But still! OHMYGAWD!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your support and generous well-wishes. I still don't understand why the people at my DZ are being like this. And I have ordered my DZ.com shirt, but dunno if it will get here in time. Our very own Skybytch's big way camp performance earned her the opportunity to chase her dream - she has been invited to participate in the Woman's World's Record at Jump for the Cause. She's $1100 short of her entrance costs. Has there ever been a time in your life where you wanted something so badly, but might not be able to get it simply because the money wasn't there? She has the talent, the drive, the determination (remember she had discs fused in her back?), and now has the opportunity...but not the funds. Time to "pay it forward".... The total must be in by September 1st, which gives us less than 40 days to support her, and help her chase her dream.
