  1. Hey, JG.. I think the original point of the thread was about reparations. Can you (or anyone in favor of reparations) give me a reason why I should open my checkbook and write you a check? Or give you my house and my land? I am open and willing to talk about this, but not in the tones which have gone on before. I am simply trying to understand why I should give you something. And I am not trolling, nor flaming. Just really trying to understand the reasons I should give you something. Thanks! 3. Hi, Rhino I didn't realize my post read that way! LOL, my apologies. I'm sorry! I didn't mean you were spamming, just noting the same languaging that comes across from those weird e-mails we get, and that clue me in that someone is trying to sell me something...which I promptly delete... Not that you were spamming the boards. Again, my apologies... Ciels and Pinks- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

  10. Hey, Nacho! How're you doing? Y'know, I was hesitant in posting this, because I didn't want to turn it into a newbie v. high number thing. And for the record, since saying what I had on these forums a while back, I have been blessed with invites to jump - from people like John Brasher, Don Ellisor, Lisa B., Chris Riley, BB, Lummy, among many others. And now you - what a lucky girl I am! Also, got great coaching on canopy flight from Quade, too. There is a wealth of information here! (Thanks, everyone!) I suppose all I was trying to contribute (awkwardly at best) was it's easier to learn FF then rw if you're jumping by yourself...and because it is, and because lots of people don't know how to ask to jump with others, they start learning FF on their own, and thus migrate towards that discipline. That's all - not complaining about lack of people to jump with me personally...just what I have observed (and btw, the only time I ever came close to a sit was when I was chipping so badly I rocked right up into a sit, and then stayed there for a fraction of a second...totally accidental!) And as to the idea of drill dives, I appreciate the idea. I will make sure I implement it. Thanks, Nacho! Ciels and Pinks- M ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

No, you can jump at the boogie. maybe not on the dz.com record (if there is an attempt), but then, you'll get to cheer along with me in that case! Just don't do the splits...you have a kickstand and it could hurt you!
  12. Can't contribute too much which hasn't already been said by folks more learned then me, but I've had this thought dancing through my head for a while, as I watched friends go to the dark side, if they stayed in the sport at all (and had tried the dark side before leaving jumping)...and I most certainly can't address it on a level that most of y'all have...but as a newbie, what I see happening is this. I wanted to start freeflying - trying a sit, or something - at around jump 30. Why did that thought cross my mind? Because I had been doing solo after solo, because no-one was willing to jump with me. I wanted to continue the learning curve, and couldn't because I have no way to reference myself in the sky...and I figured at least I'd know if I made it into a sit or not. And further, if I lost control, then I couldn't pose a risk to anyone but myself in the air. I could keep learning, I figured, and playing in the sky. It seems to me that newbies have a hard time getting people to rw jump with them because the skill level is so different, and turn to FF because it offers more opportunities to group jump earlier. It has skills you can practice alone, and then, when someone asks you "can you sit", you can say yes, because you may have gotten something close to it once. But if someone asks me "have you ever turned 5 points", I can't answer in the affirmative. The last time I brought this up, I was told to go solo for my 1st 100 jumps; or get high $$ coaching from Skydive U, or pay for a private coach. I was told "you shouldn't expect anyone to want to jump with you just because you're new", and various other things like that. Look, I don't have the $$ to buy a coached jump each time I go into the air. I don't have the $$ to get Skydive U coaching all the time. So I am then faced with the solution to solo for the first 100 jumps...which will not teach me anything about rw, and likely will produce very bad habits which will take hundreds of jumps to break. And until then, I have no-one to play with. I think lots of times, people migrate to "the dark side" because more lower number jumpers are willing to take other newbies up, and show them the ropes. I also think it's something you can "learn" by yourself, whereas rw is not. It's something that allows you to jump with others more quickly, at less expense. I personally haven't tried a sit, let alone anything else. I have no idea where this sport will take me - which side of the road I'll end up on. But I do plan on playing in both camps. Will I ever be good enough to play on a team? Doubtful. But will that prevent me from trying? Not a chance. Just my .02...if it's even worth that. 15. Hmmmm...brings up an interesting point. Some of the things I *think* might be an "emergency" may not be...risers loose (prolly not), or something like that, I guess. I honestly don't know the "right" answer. When would it be appropriate to pull high unexpectedly (not planning on it, just trying to get some info!)? I appreciate your instruction, Quade. Ciels and Pinks- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  16. I deploy high, like 4,000 or so. I tell manifest. I tell the people standing in the loading area. I tell the jumpers before boarding. While boarding, I ask those around me where they're opening, and make sure they know where I am opening. We make seat adjustments if necessary. And then, I make sure the person who's exiting behind me knows to give me lots of separation, and I give the person in front of me lots of separation. I have only pulled above my declared pull alti once, and that was during AFF, when I couldn't see my alti. I made sure I knew where my jm and videographer were, made sure they knew I was pulling, waved really hard, and then pulled. Now, a question. What do you do if you have an equipment situation and need to pull high? Wait, and then pull at the proscribed and agreed alti, or pull and then fly (which direction?)? 18. Actually, that is something I am dealing with right now, as an agent for the landlord. It applies only when the lease is terminated early, either by the landlord for non-payment (in the situation I am working on), or by the tenant for whatever reason they are breaking the lease. But it only applies (in CA, at least) if the lease is not kept to the agreed-upon date of the termination of the lease. I mean, you make an agreement to rent from February to February, and then leave, it just doesn't make any sense to hold someone responsible for a longer term then they originally agreed on. Most leases are for an "x" period of time, and thereafter revert to a month-to-month agreement, generally with either party able to give a 30-day notice. If one is leaving at the end of a lease, the way to handle it is to notify the landlord 30 days in advance of the end of the lease, in writing. So, as Jess is NOT terminating the lease early, then she is not responsible for any "downtime" of the unit. If she still had 3 months, say, on the lease, then yes, she is liable unless there are exigent circumstances warranting the termination of the lease - but only for the original term of the lease. OTOH, as my tenant is terminating early, she is responsible for any actual lost rent if I am unable to re-lease the place and replace the tenant. Of course, then there is the question of reasonable and normal measures, and what is good faith. Lots of landlords try to take advantage of the clause that says you're responsible to pay, but don't know the legal loops that come into play and the obligations that they have to re-lease the place. Hackey, glad you were able to get the situation straightened out! As to Jess's particular circumstances, I am not familiar with TX law. Actually, that should be said this way: I am only familiar with CA law. Ciels and Pinks- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

  20. Morning! I fired off an e-mail last night to the Cypres people here in the US, because I was not aware they knew about it. Here is Cliff Schmucker's response: ********* Hi Michele, thank you for the email and information one of the guys who had been bidding was in contact with us and was very helpful in this matter we contacted the ebay seller to see if we could work something out with him to make sure they are not jumped again, but he hasn't replied... all we can do at this point is try to keep potential buyers informed - I hope everyone can appreciate that we are just trying to keep everyone safe, as we really do not know what these units were subjected to in the train wreck again, thanks for the kind email Cliff ************* Ciels and Pinks- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
