Hi, Amanda! I will bring a good attitude...I'm just worried that I am so bad that I will crash into walls for 15 minutes...but I'll be smiling anyway. YAY Sparky is going to be with me. I know I will be the evening's entertainment (for everyone!), but at least Sparky will be there to show me how it's done. Whoop! I will use that which the Tunnel folk recommend, be it knee pads, earplugs, and/or whatever. I have my protec, so that should be all right, and I'll tuck all my hair up and in very securely, I promise. I don't wear jewelry except on special occasions, so there won't be any of that to be concerned with, and my pockets will be empty. Good advise about the clothing. I think two turtle necks, my jeans, and my jumpsuit will be all right, and I'll wear gloves. I'll moisterize my face, my hands, and my nose - although I don't have dry sinus problems, I've never done this kind of time, so will take precautions. I will wear chapstick, too, because my lips have been known to peel right off after a day of skydiving. LOL... Hi, Alpha! Way to go on finding a DZ and Aubrey, you are a wonderful person for doing all you've done. But Alpha, I wanted to mention something very, very important about skydiving... "Skygod." What's a skygod, you ask? Someone who thinks, based solely on unproved data, that they are the only one who knows anything about skydiving. A skygod is very easily identified by attitude - one of pure arrogance and ego. They can also be identified by the sneer on their face when they exclude everyone else's opinion but their own, and denegrate others' opinions because they have a different one. Usually, Skygods are good jumpers. Not always; a skygod may only have 100 jumps. But it's the way they 'think" about themselves and about others which gives them away. Skygodism is an affliction with the symptoms of arrogance, elitism, and fulsome self congratulations. They will generally say they won't jump with you because "you're not safe", they make comments about people's body odor, and I have found that they usually don't know when to stop the BS. See, the problem with skygods is that they think - mistakenly - that they are the best thing in the air and under canopy. What I've discovered is that those people worthy of my respect - JC Colcalsure, Clint Clawson, Jim Slaton, Luigi whatshisname, Dan BC, Don Ellisor, John LeBlanc, Chris Fiala, Joel Keisel, John Hamilton (just to name a few) are those who treat me as if I were important, as if I counted; my learning how to skydive safely is the only thing they care about. They are real "Sky Gods" - they have the maddest skills around - and yet, they make sure they teach me, instead of commenting upon my sweaty hair or dirty jumpsuit. They don't care about that...they don't even notice it. They go out of their way to come play with me, short, sweaty, and fat....they don't care. They get it. Alpha, when you are licensed, and when you come out to Elsinore or Perris, I will be waiting to play with you. Between you and Aubrey and I, we would scare all those easily frightened, arrogant skygods into staying on the ground, and we could have the plane all to ourselves. If you are not willing to listen to someone who was incountry, who knows what it's like, who was there, then there's no hope for you. There are many stories out there, and I would suggest you do some independent research on what to believe before you tell me to be skeptical. I was - and I researched. What he received medals for, others would simply stick a bandaid on and go on. When you look at Kerry in perspective, his whole life, and his whole goal, then you will be able to discuss him with some basis in reality. Further, if you're so intent on skepticism, and not believing anything until incontrovertible proof is tendered, then you need to start retracting your rhetoric on Bush and lying. Oh, sorry. I agree - it's about faith....all about faith. Seeing what can't be seen with the physical eyes, feeling what can't be felt with the physical flesh. It's about living your life with accountability to Someone or Something. But it's also about a daily accounting to God and self; what have I done today that has made the world better? What have I done today that touches someone, makes someone better? Did I contribute to the world today, or did I just take from the world? Did I intentionally deceive anyone for any reason? And why? Or was I honest and truthful, and maintain a good moral character and example to others, whether or not they're looking? It's all about faith. I have a friend named Jackie who lives her life with the best faith I've ever seen - and she is almost always calm, cool, collected, and relaxed. Hi, John!!!! Good to see you posting! You know, I have no good thoughts about my ability to fly. I'm pretty good at exits, and I have always managed to get a good canopy over my head in time, but that's about the extent of my skills. I suspect I won't be "humbled"...I might be appalled and/or horrified, however. Chris, you're right - I've never done 15 jumps in a day. I suspect I will be sore as all hell, but that's all right...I will learn something. The only thing I don't have are kneepads - I've got goggles, gloves, a helmet (not fullface - I get claustrophobic) but no pads. How necessary are they? I've got fat knees, will that help? As for the video, I will, for sure, buy that (if I can afford it.) I think it's a great learning tool (now, to set up the new VCR....so I can watch it!). Aubrey, it's at 5;30 next Thursday night (March 4?). Come laugh all you like - I know I will be crashing around like a dyslexic salmon. Sigh. But maybe I'm going to learn something, too.... And if anyone else wants to come out and laugh at me, you all are more than welcome. Bring a camera, too. It might make the still photo section of America's Funniest Photos....... Thanks. See, my father is a Jew. I have no idea how this could "cause" anti-semitism, only that there is the possibility for those who are already anti-semitic to find "an excuse" to demonstrate it. I have no doubt anti-semitism will rise in the near future; it's an apparent issue, and while it was swept undercover for a time, it isn't all that far undercover, and won't ever be. I think it will take far more than a movie to actually create anti-semitism...but maybe not too much more. My brother saw it last night, and is raving about it. It's on my "I wanna see" list, but I am going to wait a bit for the crowds to thin. Um, so I just bit the financial bullet and signed up for some tunnel time (15 minutes w/coaching) next Thursday at Perris. What to expect? I've never been to the tunnel, and I've heard nothing but good things. I guess I'm kinda chicken to go do it, but I'm gonna anyway....I suspect it will be fun, and I know it won't hurt (well, if I crash or something maybe it will), but what else can I expect? I don't even know why my belly's fluttering, either. I figure this will be a good step before the Dr. will let me actually get some air time. Right? If someone is very good looking, people will almost always "flock" to them not for their message, but for being with the "pretty" people. It happens all the time - if someone is pretty, then they are not alone, irrespective of their knowledge, message. So maybe it was more as if the message is the beauty, and not the messenger...
