  1. Deepest condolences to all who knew him, and most especially his family. My prayers are with him, his family, and loved ones. Suicide is preventable. Please get counselling if you are considering it, and encourage those who may be depressed to seek counselling. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  2. ROFLMFAO. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  3. ROFLMAO....thank God I wasn't drinking anything... I swear, when I first read the article, I thought it was from the Onion. I'm thinking ladies' razors, rocks, and bobby pins are next. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  4. No. Perhaps it's this from your first post which left that impression. I know it did for me... No inference, reading between the lines, or SWAGing needed to understand what your intention is. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  5. 9/11: Woke up from a call from a "high placed friend". Told to stay home until he called me again. Sat and watched on the tv, went to work, watched the tower fall, came home, and cried, tried to find my Mom who was supposed to be having breakfast in the City that morning. Challenger: at school. Reagan shot: home from school, alone, sick. Saw it on the newsbreak, and went to my neighbor's home. I didn't know what was going on, and then Al Haig told us he was in charge. My neighbor looked at me, and she said: "find your mom, we're going to nuclear war." Scared me to death... John Lennon: at home, tv newsflash. Called my buddy Kim who had a massive crush on him, and told her. She cried. Columbine: At work. We all went into the conference room, and watched the live newsfeed. Princess Diana: Um...."necking" with my ex. He got mad when I stopped him and told him hey, Princess Diana has been killed... Columbia: Online, here, and watched it on tv... Murders in Fresno: Last night, home, late news. Sad. I sit and wonder what has happened to people that this is a viable option... 6. Good to hear you're baaaaaaaaaaaaack..... LOL! Know what? The sky will wait. You will make it! Do everything the Dr. and the PT tells you to, and you'll be back in no time. Hugs to you, and heal fast (you too, Sunny One!). Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  7. Pablo Garahan. (from school) Scott whatshisname (from school) Leif Garret. When I finally met him at a party, and I was old enough to know what to do, I didn't do a damn thing. 'Course, I had outgrown him by then... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  8. Pssssssssst....Mar...he replied to someone named Colorado...B...unless he edited it to read Colorado Angel...which he should. Cause he's a gentleman (hint, hint...), and you're an angel. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  9. ETA reiterated today that it was not them... I suspect it's either AQ, or an affiliated group (ala Jemaah Islamiyah). Notwithstanding that AQ took credit, it's the sort of thing they have been suspected of planning (London and NYC)(and wasn't there an attack like that in Russia [Moscow??]), and this may be a trial run (looking at their history, they do tend to do that kind of thing...although there was no trial for 9/11 that I know of). Further, note the tapes and "warnings" that had been recently put out - within the last 45 days, IIRC, that indicated another attack was coming. Recently, they have developed a pattern of announcing, and then carrying out, attacks. Additionally, the Spanish have been an allied force with us, and AQ stated that anyone supporting the US is fair game. Seems like AQ to me, even without their taking credit for the attack. Too many precursor activities for it. As for the significance of March 11 or 11 March, I am not sure. I've checked several exhaustive sites which list terrorist attacks, holy days, and the like, and have not found any sort of "link". There are still some I'd like to look at before I make a decision for myself about the date, but I don't think there's anything to it. I reserve the right to change my mind, though, should I find anything else out. Again, condolences to all affected by this terrorist attack, from where ever it came. 12. I don't know about other people's AFFs, but I know that I had such a rough one that while the most basic canopy stuff was taught, I either didn't learn it or had forgotten as soon as it was taught. I had huge "gear fear", and, as a consequence, had difficulty (to state it lightly) with any sort of controlled landing - after AFF. (Also, keep in mind I took AFF before it was switched over, almost 3 years ago.) I took Team Extreme's canopy control course at jump #40 - and while I was given grief about it (you can't even land, why are you learning to swoop???), I learned soooooo very much about canopy control, and about my head under canopy, and about the way things worked, that I would recommend - and have, many times - that the first real expenditure after AFF is a canopy control class. I sincerely hope it becomes the norm at most DZ's, and am pleased to read some of the comments where it is either emphasized or otherwise focussed on. Question for all the instructors: ~Have you ever failed a student because of the canopy control aspect of a level? Ciels- Michele (edited to add the question - I was going to post a new thread, but thought I'd just put it here.) ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  13. Prayers and vibes and love and hugs for his safe return, and a smooth resolution to the entire situation - or at least a rapid one. let me know if I can help. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  14. I was so sad to hear this....my sincere condolences to all who are affected, and prayers to those who lost their lives and their loved ones. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  15. Here's the plan. 1. Take me out for chinese friday night. 2. Go skydiving 3. Have fun. 4. Be safe. 5. Smile a lot, and reconnect with the blue blue blue sky. Awright, just do 2-5, but still... Drill your ep's a whole lot, grab Smitty, and go. And then come back and tell me what it's like. I still have at least a week before I can get back into the sky, so I'm depending on you to tell me all about it. Deal?? And.... Welcome back. DMV Again

So? How'd it go? Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  17. Sleep in. Get up. Stretch. Have coffee. Cuddle the kitties. Go back to bed (with a pill if I'm still hurting) Ignore the phone. Ignore the pager. Not check email. Cuddle the kitties. Maybe do some housework. Eat something at some point. Contemplate my navel, consider all that is wrong with my life. Cuddle the kitties. Go back to bed. Now, had you asked about Thursday, or this weekend, I might have something a tad more exciting to post...but no, you asked about my only day off each week... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  18. Thanks. I needed that. It's been a rough rough last 24 hours, coupled with finding out the surgery didn't do it's job....and I am hurting a whole lot today. And I even argued with my brother last night, who I adore... Sigh. I'm looking for the hole, the rock, and some solitude...just me and the kitties. thanks, GFD. Me appreciates it...and I think you're pretty neat for posting that. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  19. Yes, in the same way taking someone's words (in an article, essay, book...) is theft. If it's copywritten, then it's theft (unless used by permission). If it's not copywritten, then no...acourse, it's not that kind of black and white, but that's what I see. And no, I've not downloaded music... 20. Hi, Jaye It is the HTML format of this PDF file: http://www.nacic.gov/news/2003/april/SENTENCING_OF_RICHARD_REID.pdf. Granted, I don't have a clue about who nacic.gov is, though. From what I understand, it is real, it is part of the court's record, and the Judge did say it. Also from what I understand, they do prepare remarks, rather than being off the cuff. The highlight was accidental - they were the terms I used in the search... As for it being a report, I came across it elsewhere, had not seen it before, here or elsewhere, and thought it would be interesting to post. (Yea, 'twardo, the marathon day was unusually hot - hit upwards of 95 today....what happened to spring???) Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  21. Richard Reid, aka "The Shoe Bomber", received his sentence from U.S. District Court Judge William Young on January 30. Sorry if this is a repost, but I don't recall it being posted. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  22. Hi, Tim. Yes, find a good anti-inflamatory or aspirin...and bring lots. I use bextra to handle pain from other issues, But it's RX. That worked for me, although I rarely take three in a row...and I did. Stretch a whole lot. And then stretch some more. Do that starting today and keep it up. Pat McGowan does lots of yoga, and he swears by it. I am thinking about doing that before I go in again... And have fun. Really experiment with your body as directed by your coach, and you will really feel things that you're not terribly aware of in the sky. It's amazing... Good luck, and thanks for the compliment on my post!
  23. This is soooo off topic.... But you bring up an interesting point. I wish you had brought it up differently, but that's all right, I'll leave your acrimony to the side, and "literately" explain what I meant.... The first cut was AFF level three. The second incident was "bonehead" on my part, ludicrous line twists and what not. The issue wasn't the line twists, it was my losing alti awareness, and no understanding that the canopy - while flying straight and steady - may still not be a good canopy...I forgot the part of control check that was about "control"....the jump was somewhere in jump number 20-30. I didn't cut, should've cut, and survived unhurt (but scared silly, appropriately so) by dumb luck. I took the canopy control class at jump 40. Learned a ton. Practiced a ton. The last one was an over-under knot discovered at 9k, on jump 65 or something, sunset clear and pull. I had 6,500 feet to discover if I would be landing this canopy, and learn to fly it the way it needed to be flown at that time, in those conditions, that day. For 6,500 feet, I spent the entire time making sure there was flare, nothing else was wrong, that I could turn it both ways, and developing a landing pattern which would bring me in safely and I was confident that I could perform, or I would've cut at 2.5K. Had I not had that kind of alti to learn how that canopy was flying at that day, with that problem, in those conditions, I would've cut in a heart beat. Had I not taken the canopy course as early as I had, I would not have had the ability to assess what was wrong, and find an alternative plan. Thanks for sharing your opinion. What you are not aware of is the personal undertones here between Jan and I. I do not take kindly to people telling me to not think, not consider, not question things that I see, hear, and learn. Further, at no point was I giving anyone tips - I was simply demonstrating a learning curve. I was also showing a bonehead move, and what I learned from that. I also don't appreciate people telling me to "shut the f*&k up"...that is not polite, no matter who you are. If you are wondering about something I post, ask me, don't slam me. If you think I did something wrong, tell me, and show me how to do it better next time. And please don't call me names doing it. And lastly, Jan's issue (this time) apparently is that I didn't say "and pull reserve." What I find interesting - and demonstrative of her personal issues with me - is that there were several other posts which said "cut", but didn't add those last three words. While she puts me down for low jump numbers and "giving tips" on this thread, I fail to see where I did that. Ciels- Michele (edited because of phrasing issues...yes, I'm literate.) ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  24. I find it ironic that in 50+ responses, you've chosen this one to slam, and to "correct". I think there is far more dangerous thinking demonstrated on this thread than my comment. Perhaps I'm dense, but I didn't give any tips out. I recounted three very different issues, and the learning curve between them. I am not going to comment further. Anything I say, Jan, you would take out of context; additionally, there is no justification needed from my position. Ciels- Michele (Actually, after considering it, I've realized that you're constantly stating that you want your posts to be judged on their content, and not because of your jump numbers...and yet you state that I have no place sharing my experience because I have low jump numbers; I mean, if you want your posts to be judged simply on their content, shouldn't you extend that same courtesy and respect to others? Or maybe you should just fill out your profile after all. ) ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

    Chaos

LOL, what an interesting post... First, enjoy the chaos. It's no big deal; has it killed anyone? Made anyone sick? Have you lost the housecat in the detritus? NO? Then it's all good. Second, if you're really interested in "cleaning house", not just moving piles (which is what I seem to do...dining table pile to the coffee table to the chair back to the dining table...), then take three big boxes. In the first box, put all the clothes/shoes you've outgrown, don't like, out of style, whatever. If you haven't worn it in a year, you're not going to wear them again. Sort them into "good" and '"bad". Take the "good" to the local charity. Throw the bad out. In the second box, take all the things which can be easily fixed, and set it aside. These are your rainy day projects. Put it into the garage for rainy days. Those things which are not easily fixed - may not even be recognizable - throw out. If you haven't missed it yet, you're not going to. In the third box, put all the papers that are in piles in it. Just dump them in, no order. Daily, take a handful out, and decide: keep? toss? Need this? Or just stuff? If the kids' clothes are bugging you, grab them all, and deposit them onto the floor of their room (do the same to your stuff). It's their job to keep their rooms tidy, so if they want tidy, they can do it (you too....). But if it's out of your sight, then it's their issue...and let them have whatever they want on their "terriroty". You can always keep the door closed. And then, realize that you can spend your life cleaning your house to instill a sense of order in the midst of chaos, or realize that life has chaos, and that if your house is clean or not won't make life less chaotic. The trick is finding your sense of balance on an everchanging platform called life...and when you trip, get back up again, regain your feet, and keep on keeping on.
