  1. Parents came to town for a visit, I remembered a long time ago my mother saying something about it and I saw a brocure for Skydive San Diego... So, I took my mom there and we both did our rist jumps. I was back in less then a week for my second... Since the end of May this year (2004) I have 30 jumps. (which is about to start going up a bit faster now that I just got my own gear ) 7 Level AFF. Ok, you asked for it... I've always been afraid of heights, edges, whatever.. It took me 19 jumps to conqure my fear, but I finally did it.
  2. yea, that's us FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

  4. Shit, the Dungaree's went away awhile ago, we now have UTILITIES... These uniforms which replaced the dungaree's a few years ago SUCK SUCK SUCK.. I thought the dungarees were comfy as hell, and they stood up to all the rough wear they got.. These new uniforms SUCK to work on if you turn wrenches at all, and they just look retarded. How many working uniforms they gonna go through in my enlistment of 9 years? seriously.. Two changes, when they had the same uniform for how many years prior to this stupid crap? [/vent] FGF #??? 5. NUPOC program? Dont know what that is Well, your about to enter a new and very different world FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  6. So you were a seal? These are all things that we still get to deal with, a "submarine shower" which pretty much consist of getting wet, turning water off, soaping up, washing soap off and your done... Hot Racking sucks too :) Well, this is a little bit better now, since a ladder does not enter the berthing area, however it's still pretty tight... Still trying to figure out where my rig's gonna go when I go out to sea I've been on a submarine for over 5 years now, and I *STILL* bunk in the torpedo room sometimes, I prefer it over Hot Racking.. Nothing like sleeping next to a torpedo or a missile. They are neat, I cant wait to get off of them! FGF #??? I miss the sky... 7. I guess the real reason for this thread is that myself and a couple of other skydiving submariners that I know / work with had talked about getting some stickers or patches or something for the few of us that there is... Guess we just kind of find it unique that we work under the water and fly in our spare time, told them I would try to see if there would be any interest in such a thing. I also thought it would be interesting to see how many other submariners I could find :) FGF #??? I miss the sky... 8. Watch who you're callin' dumb. Never know who might have survived hundreds or thousands of jumps without one. Maybe even one of your instructors. Dont mean to step on any toes with that comment I just personally think that it's a very good idea to have one Sorry if anyone takes that the wrong way, as I was commenting on MYSELF jumping without one, if you dont want it that's your choice ! Hell, I dont know what I'm trying to say lol.. INSERT FOOT IN MOUTH! FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  9. I dunno, I'm a new jumper... My $.02 is that a cypress fire WOULD be a big deal, and if I ever had one I would not be upset to be grounded as I obviosly need to think some things over. (excluding I get knocked out in freefall or something) . I'm lucky enough to jump at a drop zone that REQUIRES a cypress, and I'm happy for that.. I just think they are a good idea. On the flip side, I will *ALWAYS* fly as though I dont have one, why would I trust my life to some little computer with a pyro device hooked up to it? There are ways to not loose altitude awareness, my personal solution is my audibles which simply BACK UP my visual altimiter and visual of the ground.. If I get so caught up in my jump that I dont notice my altitude I think my two audibles screaming at me at the same time @ 2K will definately get my attention if I missed the first alerts It costs a bit of money to get this stuff, but seriously it is your life your talking about. Edited to remove "dumb" comment which has been taken in such a way I did not intend. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 10. Just curious how many other people on here are or were ever stationed onboard a submarine, if you are / were one of us, reply! Nate MT2(SS) FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  11. That sounds like my linux box :) I have not hit 6 years, however it has hit over 1 year a couple of times in the 6 years it's been running rebooted only for Kernel upgrades or power outages that outlast my UPS. Right now it's at about 200 days, rebooted because I moved. Yes, I'm a geek too FGF #??? I miss the sky... 13. I tried that, and I must not have had the right keywords! Thanks dave....off to experiment! Keep www.tldp.org in your favorites list if you plan on using linux, you will find the EVERYTHING there... I refered to that site alot while learning linux. Another great source is to get on IRC and goto the "undernet" and check out the #linuxhelp room FGF #??? I miss the sky... 14. 0/0/0 Got my new rig and it's ready to go though! To bad I couldnt jump due to clouds or something, I dunno.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  15. Yea, it sucks... I went to the drop zone today, and it was still a good day because I got to pick up my new rig and it's all ready to jump... BUT, a bad day because the planes were not flying... Now I got this rig I'm just itching to jump for the first time.. Hopefully next weekend. FGF #??? I miss the sky... Yea, I just had one of *those* days, it kicked ass, my buddy did tandem, I did hop and pop finally, got some jumps....... ... .... wait, not the kind of day you were talking about huh? FGF #??? 18. If I cut and some guy spent an hour trying to find my main which would cost a good chunk of $$$ to replace, you bet your ass a tip would be waiting for him when he got back! FGF #??? 19. I have a gunner with 2 audibles in it (yea, I like having all the toys
  20. It should be called 'normal loading', or 'I want to be jumping 20 years from now without a limp loading'. Now I like that one... I've been told I should get a smaller canopy more times than I can count.. I thank those who tell me "Stay where YOU want to stay and are comfortable", I cant afford to hurt myself, so I will limit that risk as much as possible FGF #??? I miss the sky... 21. I just FINALLY did my first Hop and pop today It was my 30th jump, a 3500 ft exit, and IT WAS AWSOME.. I was kinda scared to do it (although today I didnt really feel scared at all), but now I think I'll be doing more of them. The exit I used (in an Otter) was facing the prop, hands out to the side (little low, closer to my waist than head) and legs fully extended, look up, arch... 1,2,3 PULL.. We exited at about exactly 3,500 ft, and my audible alert for 3,000 feet went off after what seemed like a long time under canopy (15 sec?) ... It's alot of fun, enjoy it. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 22. LOL.. "I looked up and the canopy was round and full" haha... FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  23. Considering what Erk (Phree) does for a living, I think he kinda' understands. As for the NSA cracking 128/256 in those amounts of times, trust me, they've got some serious big-iron sitting in their computer rooms. They don't have anything listed on the Top 500, but if oil companies and the National Oceanographic institute have iron running in the top 40, you can bet the NSA has some nice toys sitting around. Never say it isn't possible...Hell, 512-bit RSA was broken in one week back in 99 with a Cray that wasn't that impressive considering what's available today. Linky Technology has gotten considerably faster since then. Ok, nothing is "safe",.. however, I stand by my monitoring the internet not really being possible.. If they have a target that they want to monitor, yes, that is much easier.. If the NSA wanted to monitor my specific traffic it wouldnt be hard, and I suppose they could take some extra time to decript what I do, but 75% of internet traffic? No way... FGF #???
