petition for exemption to the 120 day reserve repack cycle denied
nate_1979 replied to jsaxton's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just curious, how does the sun fading nylon etc. have anything to do with a reserve which is still in a container after 180 days? I know that I dont get my main checked out or anything on reserve repacks... FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't. -

Do you know many jumps you have on your Cypres1 batteries

Then why 2 years? What if you only make a couple of jumps in that time? I have heard, but do not know if it is true, that the Cypres1 can turn on but lack enough power to fire. In aviation, you see a lot of hours/time/whichever comes first maintenance requirements. Derek Have not heard the turn on but not fire thing, if that's true I'd think some people be worried about that before 500 jumps if they use their cypress certain ways... I dunno, I got a cypress 2 (which i dont know the jump limit on that yet... But dont think I have to worry about it yet ) FGF #??? I miss the sky... The batteries drain from use (jumps) and over time. How else could they do it? Derek They should just say two years, scratch the 500 jumps crap. the cypress 1 lets you know the status of battery when it starts, and wont start if the battery is too low... My point is that different jumping styles will drain the battery differently, turning it on 250 days will drain it more than using it only 50 days, even with the same number of jumps.. Jumping at a place that requires you to offset ground level will also drain your batteries faster.. I just dont think its as easy as saying "500 jumps." Too many things come into play for battery usage. Make it 2 years or until cypress reports low battery. FGF #??? I miss the sky... It's 2 years/ 500 jumps. Derek That's kinda dumb dont you think? 2 years, ok... 500 jumps? How can they say that they are good for 500 jumps, the battery usage between two individuals who do 500 jumps could be quite different, did they do 10 jumps per day over 50 days, or 2 jumps per day over 250 days? do they have to reset it to change ground elevations, ... way to many variables for how the battery may have been used for "500 jumps".. If the battery is low before two years Cypress will let you know... I know it's just what the manual says, but just seems stupid. FGF #??? I miss the sky... This is pretty fucked up, considering that checking for proper 3 ring assembly is part of a routine gear check. If you are a skydiver, you should damn well know how to put together the 3 rings, how else you gonna know if they are fucked up? To someone who said canopies getting hooked up backwards or whatever, I clean my cutaway cables with the main still in the container, makes it pretty impossible to screw up the way you hook the main back up if you have half a brian cell.. This is not rocket science people. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

I'm all for the increase to 180 days... It's not the money, it's the pain in the ass aspect of having to take my rig in to get repacked.. I know that I take care of my gear, other countries are having success with 180 days, cant see it causing that many problems.. Myself and most skydivers that I know also dont have the problem of pond swooping screwing up our reserves FGF #??? I miss the sky... I was told and taught that there are certan things on a rig that the owner should be able to take care of, which include cleaning the cutaway cables, flexing the 3 rings, keeping the closing loop in good condition / replacing if necessary, ... These are just things that keep your gear in good condition and may just some day help you out when the shit hits the fan / prevent the shit from hitting the fan. It only takes a minute, ... Guess that I'm weird, but I actually enjoy taking care of some things on my own without relying on somebody else. To each their own I guess FGF #??? I miss the sky... I was always told that it's not just the dirt... Mine are usually not dirty every 30 days, but one of the big things that I do is give the risers around the rings a good flex, remove the memory that they pick up by being looped through eachother... Probably not that big of a deal, but... FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

Yea, I dont do rapid S-turns for that reason, I knew of the line twist possibilities from doing that... The thing I want to see is if I can get my canopy to stall from doing too much of a turn, and if so what it takes to cause that.. It esecially caught my attention when someone mentioned seeing someone else do that on 90 degree turns on their landing patterns, I've done some pretty hard turns on my landing patterns not even thinking about the canopy stalling..
