Where I park my car every day at work there is a puddle of water that just never goes away. At first the water drove me nuts because I would always get my wheels wet when getting out of my car. But slowly over time I have become unaware of the puddle. Only recently did I start to think about the puddle again and how much it needed a friend. I mean it must get a little boring doing nothing all day. I hadn't noticed any West Nile Virus carrying mosquitoes (or larva) hanging out with the puddle so I decided I'd get the puddle a friend, someone that wouldn't mind just sitting/floating around all day with the puddle. Attached is a picture I took today of the puddle and its new friend. I must say though that I am a little worried that the puddle's new friend might get kidnapped tonight. Tonight is the first night they will be sleeping together. Hopefully they'll both be there in the morning. We'll see... I sent this as an e-mail to several friends of mine and many of them liked it so much I thought I'd share it with everyone here.

Aww, shucks! Thanks! It was really good to meet you too! And to see so many others again.

I just had to share these jumps. I thought they were reallly cool and I wanted to thank those that made them possible. Jump#1: I got onto Collin's back with my right arm around him. He had my PC in his right hand and I had his PC in my left. We jumped, took about a 1.5sec delay, Collin pitched my PC and I PCA'd him. It was great. Jump#2: Collin had to work the exit point so he couldn't participate in this one (bummer). Tom A. found a guy named Mark (forgot his last name...crap...Mark was his first name wasn't it...?) So I get on Mark's back just like I did with Collin. Mark has my PC, I have his, Tom side floats. We go and Mark pitches my PC over to Tom, Tom catches my PC and holds onto it for about a second before he pitches his own PC and proceeds to PCA me and I PCA Mark. It went pretty well except for the fact that Mark and I went a bit head down. Damn me and freeflying while BASE jumping! I ended up with 5 line twists and only got out of them in time to do a 90 right to miss the huge boulder I was about to land on. Ok, so I had a bit more time than that but not much. Appearently many people didn't know the plan was for Tom to catch my PC. They thought he did it just to screw with me and Mark. Could you imagine if that was the case? So, thanks to the three of you guys. I had two great jumps I'll never forget!

Yup, all water landings for me. I would break all kinds of bones otherwise.

I'm in a wheelchair (paraplegic) and I can definitely say it is nice to get out of it every so often and under a canopy! I think one of the coolest looking jumps from my perspective was the one I did while sitting in my chair. As the canopy opened the chair fell away. How symbolic is that?
-
I've got a spare wheelchair if you want to give it a whirl!

Bump! Remember, any extra money donated goes to a local charity. Don't stop giving yet. I'd be cool to be able to give some money to the town in the name of the jumpers! Cya, in a few days at BD!
-
That's hard to do when someone has your canopy huh? I'll return it as soon as I get a chance to jump it again. Hopefully right after Bridge Day if that's still cool?

HELP GET NICK DG TO BRIDGE DAY Jason Bell wrote: "Never underestimate the power of a group of crazy, adrenaline hungry BASE jumpers. PS. Nick, I stole a photo of you off your website.....hope you don't mind." Ok, Russel here... Jason has set up a web page to make donations to the "Help Bring NickDG to Bridge Day" fund. To make a donation go here. Like the page says donations will help get Nick to BD and for a room and some food (that means beer), etc. Whatever is left over will be donated to a local (Fayetteville) charity. I think this would be a cool thing not only to get Nick to BD but to also have some money to give to a charity. So please chip in whatever you can/want. A special thanks to Jason for setting this up and making it MUCH easier to do! Cya at Bridge Day!!!
-
Great, Nick's coming...more info on everything tomorrow!!!
-
I'd love to take credit for it but Treejumps actually came up with the idea first.
-
Ok, so here's the deal. Jason Bell has agreed to help me coordinate all this. We still have to wait and see if Nick can even make it to Bridge Day. If he says he can then I'll post details how everyone can make a donation. As a side note, this is what I love about the BASE jumping community. I've participated in serveral non-mainstream sports and this is the one with the most camaraderie. Thanks everyone!

My brain and fingers jumped the gun! I hadn't even asked Nick if he could/wanted to come. I just put a call into him today so I'll wait to hear what he has to say. Also, I only quickly looked at flights from San Diego to Charelston (that's where I came up with the 30 people, $20). I didn't do much research into it. Let's see where we get with the list and when I hear from Nick if he's going or not I'll look more into flights. So far we have... Donations by: pBASEtobe avenfoto vid666 RhondaLea Treejumps Twoply JaapSuter wwarped badenhop Total so far ~ $245 Edit to add: Crap my brain definitely wasn't working today. I hadn't even thought about a bridge day slot and all. There's lot I didn't think about. Thanks for all those offers Jason!

Nick DG said he couldn’t make Bridge Day this year because of tight funds due to his illness this year. Treejumps mentioned chipping in and buying a plane ticket for him. If 30 people chipped in $20 we could buy him a plane ticket to Bridge Day. So if you’re willing to pitch in $20 (or any amount) add your name to the list below and hopefully we can make it happen. Tom, maybe you could sticky this for a week? Running Total Collected: $20 Russel - $20
-
If 30 people chipped in $20 each it could be done.
-
Damn it why did you have to tell me that? Why couldn't you have just kept it a secret? I did read Toms guide to cracking WEP. It was very interesting. I'm going to give it a try just for fun! Thanks...kind of.
-
Hey now, you be quite! I don't want anyone jinxin' it!!!
-
Oh good, you saved me probably hours of frustration. I would have gone home trying to figure out why my NetStumbler wasn't working right! Whew!
-
When I turn on the SSID broadcast NetStumbler sees it. When I turn it off, it doesn't...????
-
If you don't broadcast you SSID, NetStumbler won't find it. I've tried it. Wrong. Ok, then why won't my version of it find it?
-
I don't totally agree with that one. It can be cracked sure, just sniff their packets and EVENTUALLY you'll crack their WEP key. But, do you have any idea how long that'd take to do if your talking about sniffing one person, one computer? You have to collect 5-10 million encrypted packets to crack their key. Just for fun I set up a laptop and sniffed my neighbors WEP protected signal. It took me 12 hours to get 5,000 (encrypted) packets. That means it'd take 500 days to get 5 million packets at that rate. And that was when they were using the computer. What about when it's turned off or they're gone for the weekend? No one would wait that long to get it.

If you don't broadcast you SSID, NetStumbler won't find it. I've tried it.
-
It's up to you (or whoever has administrator access to the router) to turn on WEP. If you have it turned on then there's no way he (or anyone else) can use it unprotected. Unless they hack into it. If you have WEP turned on then he has to use the WEP key to log on.

If you want to do investigating you could always just copy the index.dat file in the cookies folder and open it up in Word Pad. It lists all the sites visited.
