Yes it would be a concern. Not at 13,000' but higher than that (what height exactly I don't know) it will.

I went off like I usually go down curbs. So I've had quite a bit of practice doing that maneuver. I actually did practice quickly into my pool at home. I have a 2 foot ledge on one side. I went off the ledge into the pool to try to get an idea of body position. Although a 2 foot drop into water just doesn't prepare you for 486 feet.

I think I am but it's still not 100% for sure. I think you'll know pretty quickly if I'm there. I stand out in a crowd pretty easily. Ok, so I really sit out in a crowd but you get the idea.

Hey all, I just wanted to say thanks for all the support and to everyone that helped out! I've said it before and I'll say it again. I wouldn't be able to do any of this without all the help everyone has given me. I'd still be sitting on the road side of the railing watching all you guys and gals climb over and jump! Anyway...thanks a bunch!!!

I have a feeling that Jason was looking for "nice" acronyms for NPS like his example "No Parachutes Sucka!" As in...if you don't have a parachute open that would suck! I think everyone just took it as a NPS bashing session. Edit to add: How about NPS - Need (new) Pair of Shorts

Thanks everybody for all the help! I've found a nice round for the wheelchair. Betty from High Energy Sports was kind enough to give me a 50 sq. ft. round to use for this jump.

I actually bought the para-anchor at the surplus store. It's about 6' in diameter and I paid $10 for it. I figured I was there and it was cheap so what the hell. I haven't looked on ebay yet. I'm thinking about just having a big PC made. Nice and simple. Thanks for all the info though!

Anyone have a 5’-6’ diameter round I can borrow or might know a good place to pick one up decently cheap? See here for the reason why. I’ve looked at several surplus stores in my area and haven’t been able to find one. I did find a round canopy type thing. I was told it is mostly used as a boat anchor. It looks exactly like a round parachute but the only difference is it’s made out of a strange material. It just may be a little too porous. Anybody know what the hell this “boat anchor” thing is? I’ve thought about asking someone to build a 5’-6’ diameter PC for me. Any reason why this wouldn’t be a good idea? Why use a proper round with lines instead of just a PC with no lines but mesh and a bridle instead?

I'm not sure. Think of this though. With snatch force after the pins pop and the canopy starts to extract now you have a bit of slack in the bridle/canopy/lines system. Then as you keep falling the system becomes loaded again. So you have a load then no load then a load again. Whereas with drag (no snatch) there is no shockload on the system and therefore no induced slack afterward. Now I don't know if this small amount of slack would really do much but just a thought.
