Great post Sluggo. I gues you are saying that KC was a manufactured Cooper suspect, sort of like Hannah Montana being a manufactured singing star. Lyle basically paid Porteous to make KC a suspect in your view, correct? Then we have Sheridan Peterson who is FAAAARRR more qualified as a potential Cooper than KC, but nobody is promoting him as a suspect and he won't respond to interview requests. Read Sheridan's novel if you can find a copy. It has some eerie and intriguing analogies to Norjack facts in it. I think it's highly likely that Sheridan Peterson knew that a 727 could be jumped either from his Boeing tech writer experience or his time in Nam as a civilian skydiver when rumors of the Air America 727 jumps had to have circulated among the jumper crowd. How would KC know that a 727 could be jumped? Not even the 727 pilots and FE knew that. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Nexus, why do you operate in binary? Don't leave, just be a nicer. I really enjoy your posts and so do many others. I dont find the meth speculation offensive. There were not a lot of legal ways to get 4x gains on money back in those days. Hijacking with a bomb threat is a lot more directly violent than cooking and/or selling meth. Why is it OK to identify KC or Duane a skyjacker but be offended if drugs are mentioned? Nexus, are you saying "I wont stay unless I get to offend people"? That isnt a very sociable position. How about taking a little bit of negative feedback and using it on a grid to control the gain? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Don't confuse me with logic Nexus. You make a great logical argument for your position. Since I am unable to refute it I just have to ignore it. I do, however, know nice when I see it and Blevins is nicer to you than you are to him. Now as for you being the "Nexus of Civility" ... are you truly worthy of that lofty self awarded title? Maybe I simply misunderstand you. I admit to that possibility. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Nexus wrote: Yes, something like that but not quite so ridiculous. How about: Blevins wasn't attacking you personally, so why attack him personally? Does being reasonably nice make one a wimp? Civility is a social lubricant. Do you like running gearboxes dry? Engineer to Farflung, we've got an intermittent chip detector light flicker in the accessory gear drive section on number four. Blevins wrote: I like radio comm technology and want DBC to have used it, but there is zero prooof that he did. I've been jumping for 42 years, jumped rounds, jumped from a jet airliner and am pretty good at eyeball navigation. Given the circumstances of the flight, I can't see how DBC could have any reasonable expectation or chance of making a preplanned rendevous on the ground. He could have ended up 20-30 miles fomr the spot and as daybreak came anyone soaking wet and wandering around in the countryside would be an immediate suspect. Radios were used by Special Ops jumpers in Viet Nam to rendevous after landing. It just makes sense to use radios as it eliminates the tie to a preplanned landing area. You could land anywhere within 20 or 20 miles of the planned LZ in the Washougal area and communicate with your accomplice if he is situated on a peak with line of sight to your location. You could inform DBC about poice activity, news broadcasts and JOINTLY figure out a strategy for a covert pickup. Just cause using 2 way radios makes sense doesnt mean it happened though. It could work. It would have been smart to do, but no evidence that it was. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Blevins wrote: KC isnt as good as some suspects, but it isnt an absurd theory that he was Cooper. I seem to be alone in my defense of Blevins. Show some love people. Blevins will end up having done a lot of work, endured a lot of abuse and will have been paid less than minimum wage when all the dust settles. I use toast. Snowmman has a side business selling die cut teflon coated stainless steel toaster stencils of God, Jesus and Quade. You lay them over your bread, turn on the toaster and you end up with a pretty good image burnt in. He gave me a few of the factory seconds. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Nexus wrote: Nope. Never done that. I ALWAYS take the old one out. Speaking of picture frames, I worked at a tech company with an odd ultra fastidious OCD kind of guy (an engineer) who had a framed picture of his very pretty "girlfriend" on his desk. Nobody ever saw him with her or any other girl for that matter. He claimed that she resided out of state in his home town and that they saw each other on holidays and vacations. He had a story about her: she was a teacher, church girl and was caring for her aging mother. He said that they would probably be married in a few years. He was humiliated one day when he arrived at work and there were two framed pictures of his "girlfriend" on his desk, one with a Walgreen's receipt taped to it. His "girlfriend" picture was a stock photo, the kind that comes with the frame. One of my co-workers did it and thought it was really funny. The target of the joke was really upset and didnt talk to anyone for days. In retrospect I think the butt of the picture joke was a closeted gay guy and used the picture to pass as straight. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Anywhere you have people involved in cooking or selling meth inevitably a lot of them start using and get really skinny. Bad teeth follows ("meth mouth" caused by dry mouth, lack of saliva, mouth acids go unneutralized and enamel erosion and decay follow fast). So if the suspect cult stayed chunky with good teeth you are probably barking up the wrong tree Nexus. I dont understand why Blevins gets trashed so hard. He isn't evil incarnate, does admit mistakes and he has stirred up the DBC pot in the public eye which is ALWAYS good for shaking out new leads. One of my brothers who does not dabble in DBC stuff told me he saw the National Geo special the other day. I asked him what he thought of it and he said he thought a good case was made for that NW employee who was a paratrooper being Cooper. He was especially impressed with a cash purchase of a house by a guy making peon wages. He thought KC looked very similar to the Cooper FBI sketch. I disagreed of course, but this shows you that some people think KC is a credible suspect. Jo, how about just teling us what you found? You KNOW the FBI will not do any further investigating for you, so just tell us what you found during your trip and why now you are saying unequivocally that Duane Weber was Dan Cooper. Orange was right about Madoff being proven a fraud long before his empire crashed. A fund manager, suspicious of Madoff's consistent and very high profit claims, proved beyond any doubt that there were no trades Madoff could have made (looking at volumes needed for his massive fund size) that would have accounted for the claimed results. This info was presented to the SEC who just ignored it and let Madoff fleece more victims. The SEC's negligence was the subject of a federal suit by a lawyer whose family lost big with Madoff. The case was thrown out saying there was no federal liability. http://www.law360.com/articles/163713 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Speak for urself Nexus. We are miles above the "backwater forum" genre. We are really big on dropzone.com which is really big with skydivers. That defines BIG TIME in my world. Who cares about the outside world of "no jump chumps"? True, most skydivers see this forum as the ghetto (or even as a cancer) on the website, but innovators and great thinkers are often shunned by the masses. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. hope you didn't make it too safe for the tyke Georger. Kids need some danger to learn how to make good judgments and manage risks. Despite my parents best efforts I'd find ways to get shocks from AC wall sockets. I learned from that. My girl was furious that we kept the baby safety latches on things long after she passed the two year mark. One evening when I was scolding her for deliberately tumbling down a flight of stairs, she told me " don't talk to me like a baby" I said "OK Amy." she answered: "don't call me Amy. My name is "Danger Girl". The schizophrenics I dealt with on court appointed cases were pretty low functioning. They couldn't hold down jobs at all. Petey seems to have done fine in holding jobs that required physical skill and the application of intellect. I'm not a psychaitrist though. Petey is one really interesting guy with a perfect Cooper skills resume'. I bet Petey and I vote the same CA ballot on Tuesday. I am really looking forward to the SF Giants winning the World Series and Queen Meg, the Goldman Girl, seeing $143 million of her own money having been spent to lose the election to Gerry Brown. She is wondering "what does that bitch Sara Palin have that I don't". I don't have the heart to tell her. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

What IS that thang Nexus? An ignitron? Are you building a WMD? I loved Georger's 11 meter story. Chip off the old block. Where is Ckret? I want him to get some Amboy chute info. I suppose Petes DNA wasn't a match for the tie partials. I just wonder how the FBI is so sure the tie DNA was Coopers? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Funny thing about Sheridan Peterson. He makes all these far out claims about his history, and when you check them out you don't find a single lie or even an exaggeration. Pete seems to be a very straight shooter with no BS boasting or shading the truth. Has he ever directly denied that he was Cooper? I know he implies as much but has he ever said directly that he wasn't? Just wonderin... 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Damn Georger. You talk pretty convincing CB, or is it "freebandese"? Did you get it from watching Smokey and the Bandit or is there a darker explanation, a nagging dissatisfaction with living under the iron fist of Part 97... Then, quietly and covertly, a participatory excursion into the spectrum slums that lie beneath the 10 meter band. You found a more basic comraderie there, something that was more appealing to your core than the same old 599s, hi hi and 73s pounded out by people who believed that they needed federal permission to play with Maxwells equations. You lingered there. You felt at home. You found yourself conversing in their dialect. I won't tell. Don't worry. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. This is a reference to Skipp Porteous. Skipp thought Brent was a woman at first, and then Brent corrected him in a comment at Amazon. I would say the second part is the MOST correct. I wish my Mom were alive to read your post Farflung. She would have treasured it, really! In retrospect I shoudn't have told her that her obsession with doing a perfect pack job every time was overkill. She was just worried about those last few pack jobs on Fridays, making her quota before the bell rang. She said allthough they passed inspection, they werent as perfect as her mid week pack jobs and that always worried her. In her training they were told that the slightest imperfection in a pack job would mean a horrible death for a flyer who was down to his very last chance. It was a toss up between quelling her worry and trivializing her pride. My C9 was made by Pioneer and she really liked that. She told me that when she worked there they were obsessed with quality and perfection. I have to say my C9 was a real beauty. A fashion tailor could not have made straighter seams or more perfect cuts. I also had a Switlik military canopy and although perfectly sound it had a few wiggly panel joining seams and some sloppy looking sewing on the skirt band. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Nice of you to keep tabs on her Sluggo. You are a true gentleman. Hope Jo finds something that lets her put the quest to bed. Proving Duane was DBC really should come off her bucket list. She has alrready proven it to herself and she will likely never prove it to the forum's satisfaction. I say it's time for Jo to declare victory and retire. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

yeah Nexus... the LAST thing you'd want to do in freefall is to unleash a tethered cargo. It could wrap you and prevent a pack opening or snag a deploying pilot chute and cause a high speed horseshoe malfunction. The tethered stabilizing drogue tossed by tandem masters in freefall is an entirely different thing and is engineered as part of the main deployment system. You'd only want to do something like throwing a tethered bundle away from you AFTER you canopy is open to lessen the load on landing. The cargo hits first and unloads the canopy slowing its descent for the remaining suspended load which is the jumper.. As for Blevins referring to Linn as "that person", doesn't it remind you of Bill Clinton talking about Monica? I am not implying any impropriety, it's just a peculiar literary way of distancing or discrediting. I'd really like to get more info on the Amboy canopy, especially about the risers if they were still attached. I want to know if they had Capewell fittings on the bottoms. A LOT of people confuse nylon taffeta material with silk when they see an old WW 2 chute with yellowed material. My late mother worked packing chutes during WW2. I think she worked for Pioneer. She said they were all nylon where she worked but she had heard of some silk chutes being used in WW2. She watched me pack my first C9 round canopy when I was 18 and said that my pack job would NEVER have passed inspection in her factory. She was astounded at how sloppy skydiver pack jobs were. She said at her factory they had to pack chutes absolutely perfectly, not one tiny bit of extra crease fold or less than perfect overlap on the flaked panels. I told her that it made very little difference if any in reliabilty and that the 4 line check was the most important part of the pack job. She laughed and said that they could have doubled output easily if they were allowed to pack like skydivers. She told me she had always worried about a tiny imperfection in her pack jobs having caused a military flier to die. I told her to stop worrying, and I think she did. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
