I think the tandem progression is very useful. At my DZ you are required to do 3 tandems and then AFF is only one instr. Here's why I think tandems are more than just a joy ride: Tandem 1: This one, is just a ride but you are jumping out of a plane for the first time, you can easily be overwhelmed by everything going around you. Having somebody that knows what to do greatly decreases your level of stress and you can enjoy the ride. You also get to pull for yourself and you know what to expect. Tandem 2: Altitude awareness is your primary job, you also get to start and stop turns, and forward movement, and I think you also do practice touches (can't remember), pull at correct altitude. Tandem 3: Same as tandem 2 but you have to pick a heading, the TM will turn you, and you have to turn back to your heading. During all 3 levels you get instruction on flying the canopy, landing patterns and flaring. I think the tandems prepared me very well for AFP and would not do it any other way. I also have my trusty Protec. I covered the ear holes with electrical tape, which is the same color as the helmet (virtually invisible from even a short distance) it has a great spot for the Pro-Track. All you need is a couple os stickers to make even a Pro-tec look a little more cooler Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches!

Having just gone through AFF, I think the biggest problem is the anxiety and stiffness. Like everyone says, just relax and things will fall into place. As a new jumper that was by far the most difficult part of skydiving. If going to a tunnel helps with your confidence, then go for it, but remember, in a tunnel there is no ride to alti, no watching other people jump out, no door anxiety, and no rushing ground coming to you. Having said that, I really would like some tunnel time to help with my fall rate Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches!

How nice it would be to live in a perfect world... It's nice to say that parents should take the sole responsibility, but the reality is that all parents need to feed and shelter their kids and to many, this may leave very little time for actual face to face interaction. We live at a time where babysitters, daycares, tv and internet are teaching our children. How much time do you think you would have with your child if you were making $5.25 per hour? School may very well be the only consistent thing a child has in his/her life. We have a systemic problem that needs a systemic solution. BTW, I think parents SHOULD be responsible for the "life skill" education of their children, but that is very unrealistic to many. As to Kallend's Education is definitely NOT top priority in the US.
