All true. And, the stage was set by the Magna Carta - a document that would influence change to this day. As you know, Madison relied heavily on its writings for the US Constitution. If given the ability to go back in time; I would like to meet Aristotle, Charlemagne, and King John.

No argument, but it is a serious process.

Agreed. And, even though the district had established a code for cheerleaders which required the members of the squad to “respect their school, coaches, teachers, and other cheerleaders and teams…There will be no toleration of any negative information regarding cheerleading, cheerleaders or coaches on the internet.” She posted a Snap photo of her and a friend holding up their middle fingers with the text, “f*** school f*** softball f*** cheer f*** everything” superimposed on the image. The girls in the image were not wearing their uniforms and did not share the name of the school district. The school district invoked the "cheer code" and dismissed her from the squad. At the hearing, school officials testified that the discipline was imposed because of the student’s use of profanity - out of school, off campus, no identifying school colors or mascots or anything else on their clothes - it was just them "expressing" themselves. From my perspective; the school was caught up in a whirlwind of "let's do something." I think it was overreach on the school's part. Just my opinion.

Agreed. The two hyperlinks provided right above are worthy reading.

But it can and has happened. https://mises.org/wire/brief-history-repressive-regimes-and-their-gun-laws EDIT: And, that's just a short list.

Well said, Ken. After posting that; I thought, "Why do we keep talking about the past instead of planning for the future?"
-
OK. I'm a little lost. Sometimes I think I'm being concise, but do miss the mark on occasion. Help me understand which part or why you think I'm contradicting myself.
-
True. And, we can disagree. But, if you keep making me address the same thing, I'll buy your beer as promised, but you're on thin ice with my world-renowned fajitas.
-
Maybe you need to re-read your history. Cartwright, Somerset, etc. all led to England having to formalize the abolition of slavery in 1833. In other words, England talked about it and "hoped" it would cease, but it didn't.
-
Canada has, "No Right to Bear Arms." We do. You have a privilege - which can be taken away. We've had this discussion and you keep arguing with me about something I've already addressed. I don't think you're ever going to be happy until you think you can get me to say - "Alright, let's abolish the 2nd Amendment," which is never going to happen.

I'm all for universal healthcare. An ACA expansion of Medicaid that was written by the four primary health insurers that only benefits them - is not universal healthcare. Obama had a great opportunity to get it right and fumbled the ball. Absolutely. Other than they have to exist - Otherwise, you wind up with a "China or Russia" type BoR
-
If that's true; then why did England need the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833
-
Russia. China. + BoR. C'mon Phil.
-
Not true. Slander. Libel, Obscenities, Fighting words, Blackmail, Graffiti, Certain forms of speech that elicit expressive conduct (as in this case) etc., etc.
-
And yet, the English Bill of Rights was written in 1689, about 90 years before the Declaration, yet slavery in England didn't end till 35 years before the US for a net capital gain of enjoying slavery 65 years longer than the US. Here. Let me help you down off that soap box.
-
Can't tell you that. You don't have the secret decoder ring or even know the secret handshake.
-
True and there were RUD's submitted upon ratification. Guess I'm not following your point or direction. If every country had a BoR; the ICCPR wouldn't have been developed or exist. Or, the Naa Neee Naaa nee we had it first defense. :)

Evening, Jerry. " . . . students can’t “materially disrupt” the functioning of their school, though what’s considered disruptive can depend on the situation." https://www.aclu.org/other/tinker-v-des-moines-landmark-supreme-court-ruling-behalf-student-expression And, that's why we have a SCOTUS and I will be watching this (mostly, cause I find BoR cases interesting).

Works in movies, not in real life.

This question might get better served if it were in Gear & Rigging. This is more like the DB Cooper thread and many don't even look in here anymore. Perhaps PM a moderator to see of they can move it or delete it and place it in G&R.

IMO: The officer was too far away to do anything other than shoot. There's no way he could have got to her in time from that distance before the knife was thrust into the other girl. If I had a criticism about the officers actions; it would be his failure to "look past the shot." When I first saw it; it puckered my ass because you can see people in the background. I "don't think" he had to shoot to kill and was waiting for other video viewpoints before addressing this issue. Of concern is - on more than one occasion it's been reported that police had been on-site for several minutes. How come this wasn't de-escalated before it escalated to this point.
-
It's been going on for longer; it's just with the advent of media the signal is louder and wider than ever before.
-
That's all in the proposed plan. w/r/t this stabbing matter (or the other shootings going on) . . . you know the role of the military - civilian police are required to have 100x more restraint, training and interaction with civilians/citizens. From what I've seen; the military has more discipline for their environment, than the police for theirs.
