Probably the main reason most of us stay in touch on here and have for so long. Sometimes, I think about how it all started as an extension of our conversations at the DZ's and has spanned over many years, subjects, different positions, and ultimately enough respect to listen.
-
OK. Bill, I'll own that and apologize to the group. Not the impression I was trying to give, but obviously missed the mark.
-
I knew when I was writing it that you guys would swell up and hang the "Racist" label on me. Primarily because while we've met; you really don't know me.
-
No. No. He's half-white, was raised by white parents, in a white neighborhood. Kinda hard for me to wrap myself in the CK poor pitiful me black man role. He was at the end of his contract. He had been injured. He sat on the bench during the national anthem for two weeks prior to the incident contemplating his future and nobody noticed - until a sports caster said something to him on camera - and he was in the spotlight. In the end, he accused the NFL of collusion, sued, they paid him money, and he agreed to keep his mouth shut. If you truly believe in something - why would you accept hush money. As I told Bill; you're never going to convince me he wasn't in it for self, limelight, and money. Poor Colin. Boo Hoo. Let's talk about these NFL players.
-
Nate was just trying to help Colin save his NFL ass. It was a pivot to help Colin after he'd painted himself into a corner. That didn't work so well either.
-
For some reason, "Father's Day Jokes" crack me up. What's the best way to carve wood? Whittle by Whittle.
-
I don't think there's anyone in the room that doesn't have an issue with the pledge or "under God." Myself included.
-
I get your point, Bill. I see it more in Tillman; than I ever will in Kaepernick. To me; Kaepernick will always be about self. You'll never convince me that he was about the cause. There's people living in the inner cities, working it every day that have more vested and my respect than he.
-
Yup. Day after day. Week after week. Year after year. It's called commitment. It's what you do if you believe in something.
-
Yeah, but they damn sure do on commitment. You know, kinda like breakfast. The pig put his ass on the line. The chicken just contributed.
-
Wendy, You're one of those people that has an aura of respect & kindness around you. Please don't give up on your country or your flag. Even though we may have differing opinions on certain things; your voice and opinions are important. You bring balance.
-
I think you're mistaken, but as stated have no real quantitative measure. Didn't mean that and you are correct.
-
No. I answered the question and then you decided I went tangential. And, I kinda agree to the recency effect of it.
-
Agreed. After it's been earned. Sure they do. Did you ever work for someone you gave respect to - they earned it. Well, anyone who demands it; probably ain't going to get it.
-
It was always about the protest. Changing your body position doesn't change the intent. Colin was out for Colin and trying to get media attention to remain relevant.
-
Nobody said, "better show." On a final note: One doesn't ask for respect; they earn it.
-
Not at all. Except that Colin didn't do it out of respect; he did it as a form of protest.
-
It's not and I've been a champion of those measures.
-
Alright, let's move this along. I concede to your exact specific date and that it escalated exponentially later.
-
Good question. It started heavily after WWI and amplified again after WWII and ever since. Veterans go to sports events to feel a sense of home, tranquility, and patriotism. Their families go with them. I would even say (although I have no measurement other than qualitative) that most in the stands are veterans. And being around men & women who've put their butts on the line - not a great time to take a knee. EDIT: I've been following the notifications to me and not the thread. If we're going to continue this - I suggest another thread. Apologies to Gowlerk & the moderators for the thread drift.
-
You're so busy trying to prove me wrong, that you didn't even look at the graph you provided? Some kind of Brent moment where you take the one data point to make your point - without looking at the whole trend.
-
He's entitled to his opinion.
-
WE KNOW! IT's from THAT day. EVERY time - THAT DAY. You keep posting the same hyperlink. For that day. This is exactly what pisses everyone off. You pick one data point out of trend and celebrate that data point like a five year-old that's discovered he can write his name in the snow while peeing.
