First, please fill out your profile. Second, not sure what having $2500.00 now has in correlation with 18. If you're here in the US, there's a lot of DZ's that will allow you to learn to skydive (with written parental consent (parents have to come to the DZ)). If you can get that permission, that money is well-spent going through the program and while doing so; investigating and demoing gear once you're cleared. There's a lot of information you need to gather to make the right gear choice for you when the time comes. If getting parental consent is not an option, then continue to save your money for the program and to buy gear after that, rather than buying gear first. If you bought something today, you may have a different feeling about it after you've gone through the program and gear education process. Plus, gear "could" change exponentially by then. Bush may be the cure. You know, I'm intrigued with how many people are throwing rocks at "State of Denial," but have nothing to say about the myriad of books by Republicans that are in step with Woodward's book. This is your second post of concern. In your first post, I was left with the impression that you already had your Coach rating. Personally, it sounds like you're more interested in getting the AFF rating than it does your becoming a good Instructor. You mind if I ask what the rush is all about? Moving fast isn't the same as getting somewhere. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Hey, Jerry... But, I didn't get mine till 1981. I "think" you could still get them from the factory then, but I bought mine from someone who bought it new and had put about 5 jumps on it and bailed. It was the all black with belly wart dashboard for the alti & stopwatch. and a R/W/B main. I jumped it at the 1983 Nationals in Muskogee and folks were polking fun at me for jumping an antique. I finally caved and went to a square and my Instructor, Curly Roe made me take a transiition class - cause them squares can kill ya if you turn 'em too hard. They're wida-makers. PC's were $350.00 brand new (H/C, Main, reserve, all handles) so anything 50% or less that can be certified for jumping is good. On a separate note - before you jump the PC, get with the oldest, grizzliest skydiver or former Airborne guy/girl at your DZ and overlearn; spotting, EP's from a hanging harness and most importantly - real PLF's - not that once or twice half-assed golf-clap we're good shit. I agree with Skybytch. One cannot learn flaring, surge avoidance, toggle control on landing, horizon, not to horizon or canopy landing techniques over the Internet. Please get with your Instructors at your home DZ and get some dedicated 1-1 assistance. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

Now that cracked me up. It'd be great if he went on to get some ratings. Just think about what you said but 180 degrees. Someone comes to Tiger for Golf lessons and he tells them, "Not everyone is meant to be a golfer. Have you ever thought about taking up skydiving? We have a symphony of HALO rigs for use in the AFF program. They don't have to show up with a rig and AAD; they just have to show up. Having said that, it's not 5'8" and 295#s, Height & weight has to be proportionate. Kinda like TallGuy, AggieDave, myself, etc. whereby "in shape" and stocky trumps overweight and cash. Personally... I've always found NWFlyer's (Krisanne) posts to be well-balanced, informative, mature and always in-bounds. Oh dear Lord. I got enough people climbing up my rear on a regular basis on here. I damn sure don't need to have a green target painted on my forehead. My hats off to the Greenies for taking precious time out of their day to work on here. I have to answer, "Yes." Military jump, C-130, four hours of nap of the earth flying and we'd all ate the peaches out of our C-Rats.. Once one guy starts; it just runs down the stick...
