  2. Select the PDF file about a third of the way down the page for a white paper on how digital altimeters work. http://www.qsl.net/ok2xdx/Altimeter/altimeter.html Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  3. Always talk with your Instructors and local Riggers before making a buy decision. Here's some good reading: http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Gear_and_Equipment/index.shtml Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  4. I think there's three factors, Steve. One is that you're more attuned to searching out tandem-related incidents since becoming a TI in order to learn from them, 2) tandem-related incidents are being reported more from a world-wide audience on this medium, rather than the previous "just U.S." focus, and 3) an increased amount of reporting of any type of incident (including the twisted ankles) that previously wasn't since its easier to just log on and report. Since tandems are becoming an ever increasing method of introduction to the sport; it would be interesting to know if we could capture the number of tandems and incidents from ten years ago and measure that against the increased number of tandems and incidents today to determine if the ratio of % of incidents to # of tandems has increased or decreased. My _guess_ is we would find the number of tandem incidents per number of tandem jumps is actually lower today. I know you're kind of locked up with students at the DZ, but if you can get the chance, you should visit someplace like SDD or Spaceland on a non-boogie weekend and see how many tandems are done on any given weekend. It's really something to see Otter load after Otter load of 5-10 tandems all day long Friday through Sunday (at least 150 tandems on a weekend) without incident. 5. Congratulations!!! Is that not kewl how many credits ACE gives for military schools towards college credit these days? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  6. I get it.... Only cause I flunked a damn spelling bee in the 3rd grade cause of it when they used male context in the sentence. First time I ever came in second!!!!!! Bastards!! Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  7. Or... if( ( (number_of_jumps < 50) OR (post_count < 100) ) AND ( post_text_contains("Lutz") ) then { post_followup("Yes, we've seen it already."); lock_thread(); } Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  8. Just me $.02, Andrea... I just happen to be a guest in the house and just cause I think the painting would look better on the other wall is just an observation. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  9. As a Premier member, one can do a user search using the criteria of State, Rigger: Back Rigger: Chest Rigger: Lap Rigger: Seat Perhaps the added value set of Master or Senior and the encouragement of getting a Premier membership? Not trying to be a dissenting opinion, but just considering the maintenance of such a dedicated page. You guys are the mods, so you have a better pulse on the advantages of a dedicated page for Riggers. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  10. Is the "Dropzone" tab section for each DZ's offerings of which one is "Rigging Services" not enough? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  11. Now while you may thin me a smart ass, I am going to ask you to tell me a bed time story about Maxine. I love skydiving history and to think that 40 years ago -this year... Anyway I'd like to know more about her. Where is she now, Did she give it up, get on with her life, etc. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  12. Best purchase I ever mde was: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=385 Took both the maps and the phone outta my hands. I can talk on it (Bluetooth) while it directs me where I need to go. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  13. Exactly the point. Just trying to pay homage and praise to the first 100 ladies and pass on a little history and legacy. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  14. The butchery you refer to was a copy/paste of someone else's spelling of the name to which I stand corrected. And, yes, there are other "First 100 ladies to acheive a D license" that are not on the list. Feel free to fill in the blanks. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  15. They were within the first 100 women to receive a D number. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  17. He's facing; Termination (and a blot on his record for future employment) Tax Evasion. Tax Fraud Theft of services. I just terminated and prosecuted an employee for a similiar situation - sentencing date is the 27th. He faces up to five years in jail since it was $16K (which will probably be house arrest (ankle bracelet), community service, five years probation and full restitution. Sooner or later - ya gets caught. http://www.assetprotectionbook.com/irc_sec_7201.htm Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  18. Thanks, Eric. That would have been about the time I heard it. I did file it away in my "Techniques for Survival" mental database as one of those... keep trying till your goggles fill with blood factoids. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  19. Speaking of raft dives. I once heard a story (don't know if it's legend or fact) about someone who was left alone in the raft when it sandwiched them inside. The story goes that they tried to get out and finally grabbed their P/C and pitched it outside the raft and was extracted on opening. Truth or fiction? NE1 know? EDIT: Having a bad typing morning. 22. Why not call that DZ and speak to the RIC about your observations. Maybe they'll start a QC program. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  23. I don't actually agree or disagree. It depends on the DZ and how they handle it. When I had a DZ, S/L was the bread & butter for both, then tandems, then AFF. If one looks at the total number of hours spent with AFF FJC versus S/L FJC with a greater volume of FJC students willing to spend less money for the S/L instructional methodology - that will derive a higher income for both the instructors and the DZ. The DZ needs to be honed in on balance as the S/L student progresses and in balancing the instructors to ensure every Instructor gets an equitable share in Tandems, S/L & AFF. In a lot of cases, the 182 DZ is the nearest DZ and if balance is not maintained for both the DZ and the Instructors, the DZ will cease to exist and then no one makes any money. Finally, if Instructors think they're going to make a full-time living at a 182 DZ, they are mistaken. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  24. It can be a humbling experience to meet those who came before us. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  25. FWIW; I just happen to have a previous life in training and teaching - there is a big difference between the two. This is a very interesting thread and just to add a couple of things. 1) As one who's seen Mykel's training videos, please don't take what he's saying as criticism; he's trying to help you produce a better product and at no charge and in the face of sacrificing revenue himself by technically helping a competitor. But, that goes to his love of and for this sport. Ask to see some of his videos and learn from it. 2. As to copyright - there is a provision which allows the use of copyrighted material for educational purposes. However, that provision is for nonprofit institutions of which DZ's are not. Here's a couple of websites for you and Dave to review regarding the matter. http://www.copyright.com/ccc/do/viewPage?pageCode=cr10-n http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html#110 I can make copies and use infromation when teaching college without jeopardy of violating copyright infringement (although the general rule is not more than one chapter and credit must be given); however, I cannot use that same chapter to teach skydiving at a for profit center. And to answer the next question - In teaching; they don't have to get it or use it. In training - they do. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
