  1. So Keith, as an employer would you not want to know if your staff can not be trusted to not invade the privacy of other staff members. Regardless of it being an external drive, an open computer, and unlocked office or draw? Workplace trust is (IMO) of paramount importance, if a staff member displays evidence that they can not be trusted, would you as a boss not want to know? Our employees learn that privacy is a personal responsibility. Keep your personal life personal and your business life separate from personal. In this case, they'd probably both be terminated for violation of the electronics communication policy. Well according to your recommendation, NEITHER would be terminated because YOU would not know. You advocated that she say nothing, so now your company has TWO people you cant trust, and you dont know it. I could trust them to keep their fucking mouths shut and not have it escalate to my level forcing me to take action. Once I get the drama-filled email (which will be forwarded to me)... action will be taken. ... I gots to go to bed, Brother. let's pick this up Saturday. night. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  4. I run a 40M/year company with 300+ employees and numerous state and federal contracts. Part of those contracts include confidentiality. And, no one person has the right to jeopardize the organization's contracts and in turn everyone's jobs. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  5. Squeak, You're way out of line on this one. This is about her future... not jacking off for a moment of personal satisfaction. you're right, it IS about HER future, and that starts with Standing up for what SHE believes is the right thing. I understand what you are saying but i also believe that the sort of thinking you are advocating is one of the reasons the corporate world sucks arse. Stop people doing wrong, stop people being lazy, stop the rot and develop a better culture dont foster the bullshit that is currently in place. And, what do you do for a living, again? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  6. OR She could stand up for herself and not let people push her around. INTEGRITY is a dying beast Squeak, You're way out of line on this one. 7. First off, the rape scenario w/ or w/o drugs or in any shape or form is still just about the worst analogy that could be used. The two are no where close. Finally, I wish you'd stop trying to use it to suck me into an argument that I won't embrace and is no less than silly. I have had to terminate people for violating the corporate electronic policy and will have no issues doing it again. There are corporations that do not allow personal HD's, phones with cameras, or even bus drives on the property. That is a fact. And, it is becoming an increasingly used policy in both government and private sector. As you grow in your career and reach for higher goals, you will find that certain positions will have employment agreements and/or noncompete and/or confidentiality and/or intellectual property policies or clauses. Now you can stomp your feet and fuss all you want, but the fact of the matter is that even if your boss let's it slide here, that is not necessarily a win. And, if you should have loftier goals than your current position; I would again reiterate that you should learn to choose your battles much more wisely and not give upper management a reason to put you under the microscope. It's not rolling over. And, if you want to be shown the door quicker, please be sure to throw the lawsuit card as fast and as loud as possible. But, if you do, know these two things, 1) you better have more money than the company because attorneys can drag it out until you have no money left, and 2) make sure you never wanted to work in that industry again. Good luck. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  11. You may want to reconsider the highlighted part, move on and take it as a lesson learned. You might be surprised to find yourself in HR being counseled or even worse, being terminated for having work product on a personal HD. It's just as much a shame on you as it is a shame on them moment. What a load of bollocks, invading a colleagues privacy and possibly work product, SHOULD be reported. Bunch of whiny bitches, dont put up with that sort of shit. AND there is NO shame on her, for an oversight. I don't see placing your company's work product on a personal HD as an "oversight" as much as it was an "intent." Many company's now have a blurb in their HR manual regarding work product and personal being separate and in some cases, having company information on a personal HD can be a violation of Intellectual Property and subject to both criminal and civil proceedings. You may be creating quite the situation for the OP by suggesting the matter be pursued with upper management. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  12. should be 'will be held'...the way it reads 'will hold' makes it sound like the party will be on stand-by if the weather is fine. Then again you ferINers might LIKE to party in the rain!? the party will hold is correct, it's present tense, "will be held" is future tense. I think "the party is being held ..." is present tense even though "held" sounds like past tense. I think there might be a specific term for phrases like "is being held". The party isn't holding anything. It "is being held" or "will be held" by the folks who are holding, or who will hold, the party. No it is present, \The party will HOLD (it will not move). It may not be common usage anymore but it is correct. Agreed. It is part of Victorian grammar. In the northeastern United States, they still hold Victorian Garden parties and that looks like someone copied the exact same verbiage from one of those invitations. 16. Well, Hubs. WELCOME BACK!!!! As to being a littler bigger than them little fellars... let me tell you there is an organization that I started along with Gary Anvil, myself and Hutch (RIP). It's called "Anvil Brothers" and there's a lot of us. You can review a partial list of the threads HERE You can also PM maxxMADMaxx on here (he's outta Skydive Houston) to learn how to get in the Anvil Brothers Skydiving Team and since you're up around SDC way... Go find some very hyper skinny, skydiver that's either jumping or working out in-between jumps... His name is Brenster and he can tell you some "Anvil" war stories and more importantly help you with your weight. Pound a month.... sheesh. I got turds that weight four pounds. Your wing-loading does not sound too bad, but as is the rule: I must defer to your current Instructors. Glad you're back. Feel free to PM me if I can be of further assistance and on a final note... Once you get your wings back, go tell them freefliers you'd like to be the base on a hybrid jump - you'll become the most wanted skydiver at the DZ since you can hang with them on their heads whilst being on your belly. Go jump!! Keith Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  18. Note to future T/I's: Please... be sure to geek the camera much more yourself than putting positive emphasis on the student. You should do your best to make them look like a world class douche bag for their family's video album. Always ensure your helmet is on even if you can't find one for the student. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

OK Little Brother... Now that you've been given enough shit, let me lay it out for you. You stepped in here with a request for assistance on making a "buy" decision, and not a request for learning or direction towards base-jumping. Is it possible to buy a rig and go hurl yourself off a rock. Yes. The probabilities for survival are next to zero. So, the path towards achieving your goal is this: One you need to make at least 200 skydives. Recognize this - You'll need instruction in Base-Jumping. Most base-jumping Instructors are also skydiving Instructors and will not touch you with less than 200 skydives. The reason is... you need a lot more knowledge that is acquired in skydiving LIKE, packing, winds, spotting, canopy control, landing, varying size and types of parachutes, the list goes on. Not to mention learning how to build our internal clock which is much more serious when one has much less reaction time for a base jump than for a skydive. Skydiving rigs and Base jumping rigs are really quite different and this takes time to learn. If you're really serious about base jumping, walk on to any dropzone and FIRST discuss and learn about skydiving. We've been flip with you for a reason. In almost 99% of the those cases where someone comes on here ringing the base-jumping bell... it's more about doing something that might get them some pussy than it is about being passionate about jumping. If you're serious about it, then learn. If you're not, then go buy a Harley... the cost of entry is about the same for both. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  23. Well, this moderate Christian RePUBICAN also does not believe in the death penalty, but not for financial reasons. A permanent solution demands a perfect process - and one does not yet exist. Conversely, I find the arguments on both sides have come from years of treating hard-core long-time repeat offending criminals to have been coddled so much that it turns my stomach. Recently, a friend of mine's wife was killed by a drunk, Guatemalan illegal alien as she rode her motorcycle to work. He ran a red light, completely took her out in an instant (as in dead) and witnesses said at trial that he looked at them, shrugged his shoulders as in, "Oh well." He received six years and that "was the best we could hope for." Cause you know, he didn't mean to kill her; kill her - he accidentally killed her. My buddy was preparing to speak at the parole hearing about the "only love of his life" when he received a call of, "Mr. X, we're sorry to be calling you like this, but we thought OKC was going to call you and they thought we were going to call you, but the man who hit your wife is in Oklahoma City awaiting deportation." My friend asks what he can do to make it stop. "Well, sir, I'm sorry to tell you this but once they get to Oklahoma City, they are usually on a plane that day." He was and he had served 16 months of his six year sentence. Due to so many liberties that criminals now have; cable TV, degree programs, free access to lawyers, counseling etc. has reached the level of ridiculous. So ridiculous that we must now fall to it being a financial question instead of a justice question? In addition to seeing first degree murderers having to serve < half their sentences; the victims being the only ones to receive the life sentence; lesser capital cases getting even less time over the years - the American public cries out for true justice. NOW, let's talk about this so-called "lower cost of life sentence to death penalty" bullshit. Here's what those 11 "Urban Studies" done by DPIC DON'T tell you... "In 1994, a new law (amended in 1996) authorized the federal government to provide financial assistance to the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories to construct or renovate prisons to incarcerate additional violent offenders. Those states and territories that adopt the 85 percent standard became eligible for an increased portion of federal funding. Since fiscal year 1996, the Justice Department has provided more than $1.3 billion through the Violent Offender Incarceration/Truth-in-Sentencing (VOI/TIS) incentive grants program. The adoption of these state legislative changes has resulted in increases in time actually served behind bars and growing state prison populations nationwide (up 7 percent annually since 1990). The average time served by released violent offenders (persons convicted of murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault) rose from 43 months in 1993 to 49 months in 1997. Time served by released violent offenders rose in at least 38 states during that period. Their average percent of sentence served in prison rose from 47 percent to 54 percent." (1) 54 PERCENT?!?!?!?! So, what we have are studies asking the States for financial information regarding THEIR costs; not the TOTAL cost... Because we all know the government can take money from one pocket and put it in another and spin it as a savings or a greater cost depending on the situation then existing and how many news cameras are present and which way the opinion needs to swing that day. BOTTOM LINE: I will be one of the first to raise his hand and agree to Life Without Parole really meaning, 1) life without parole, 2) prison meaning prison and 3) taking away any and all rights and liberties. Yup, as in hard fucking labor from 5 o'clock in the morning until 10PM at night. No work programs, no release programs, No college or counseling services, no degree programs (cause that kinda means you may be getting out, don't it?). Let's go to the big rocks into little rocks and paint the little rocks in the hot blazing sun forty year program. Unless it involves a child and then you get the forty year with castration program. But, we know that's not going to happen either.. Cause you know, we'll get to hear such wonderful platitudes like Dostoyevsky's, "The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons" or Pope John Paul II's, "A society is measured by how it treats its weakest members" ad nauseum infinitum.
