  1. My dumb ... what's a "TIA" ? "There's nothing new under the sun"
  2. I think you'd be surprised ... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree ... kids raised in a rotten environment are far mor likely to raise THEIR kids in a similar environment. Kids raised in a loving home - whether there are 2 daddies, 2 mommies, or whatever - will fare better than those raised otherwise. Just take a look around -- there are kids everywhere, raised by a man and a woman, or single parents, who do not have the values necessary to be a contributing mamber of our society. Kids raised by caring, loving PEOPLE will have a much better chance ... "There's nothing new under the sun"
  3. I recall reading an article on dz.com a while back where a member of one of the USA's top RW teams (can't remember his name) said he felt the most dangerous skydivers were the ones with between 100 and 500 jumps... That's me!!! I'll be careful up there... "There's nothing new under the sun"
  4. I gotta agree... I'm pleased with the "tolerant" nature of most of you! I think ignorance and intolerance breed hatred, and there is waayyyy to much of that going around already. "There's nothing new under the sun"
  5. I don't think sexality should be an issue in adoption. Kids need a loving home... "There's nothing new under the sun"
  6. Bwahaahaahaa!!! ... well I am pretty flat - I need to think about it to really arch (poor flexibility - never got my back to bendable after back surgery about 9 years ago -- I'LL WORK ON IT!!!)... I found it interesting in "another thread" that people were characterized as "experienced" with 100 / 200 jumps... not in my book! Of course, I'm no expert...
  7. CReWpilot, thank you for your post. You are absolutely right on. Little old me, with 133 jumps in 4 years (I consider myself a novice, and will for a long time, I'm sure) wouldn't dare consider advising others about skydiving. I'm glad to have people like Riggerrob around to offer up advice to those of us who ask for it. While I certainly know volumes more than newbies, I feel like I am in grade 1 of my skydiving education. "There's nothing new under the sun"
  8. You people who think you know everything make life rough for those of us that DO! "There's nothing new under the sun"

    Superheros

Are they responsible for all that scratching I do??? Well at least I was honest with you when I said: "I sincerely doubt this will help you, Slappie... but I just wanted to feel like I was contributing" Sorry, man... it's just good clean fun! "There's nothing new under the sun"
  10. "Football" is one of the world's most participated in sports! Oh, wait a sec -- you mean "American Football"... hmmm Anyway, it's all in the ratings. # of viewers, vs $ spent covering the sport. If the ratings aren't high enough, then the advertisers won't want to buy time (for their commercials) in the show. No income for the broadcaster means "let's find something else more people will watch...so we can sell all those commercials slots". While TV might be entertainment for the viewer, for the broadcaster, it is a product. If the product ain't selling, you need another product. Well of course it is! Mine, too! I LOVE to watch skydiving stuff -- but not enough other people do... "There's nothing new under the sun"
  11. Speedy, I think we need to know more about what went on there... "There's nothing new under the sun"
  12. Alright, Skyhawk ... last week you wanted to work in a tv station ... are you just yanking our collective chain??? "There's nothing new under the sun"
  13. Sure it is! That's pretty much what we talk about -- in fact, I even like to watch... Glad everything turned out ok after your mal! "There's nothing new under the sun"

    Mmm...beer

The boss usually brings in the beer for us on election night ! "There's nothing new under the sun"
  15. I think that's what Big John said when he fell off the plane (C-182 wheel wasn't quite locked, we think) as we were setting up for a 4-way on Saturday! "There's nothing new under the sun"
  16. I'm with you, Clould9 ... who really cares what a person's handle is, or how many posts they have made. It's superfluous. The important thing is that we can share information here. Some people have more to offer than others. How you conduct yourself here is more a measure of your value than your post numbers. There are several people who's posts I won't waste time reading. Others I wouldn't miss... "There's nothing new under the sun"

    My knee hurts

Me too! Thanks for ordering me the t-shirt, Billy! I will make every effort to be in Kamloops!!! Favaks, I've got something going on with my left shoulder -- gonna get that looked at Thursday... No fun having a body that isn't in top form! "There's nothing new under the sun"
  18. Jim Avila, a senior NBC journalist, did a very positive piece on adrenalin sports about 6 months ago -- and in it he covered skydiving, and even did a tandem jump. But please keep in mind the media isn't there to paint a rosy picture of our sport -- the are there to: 1) generate income for the company... and 2) inform the viewers about the events that shape our communities. And Joe Skydiver having a fun freefly jump then a great surf on landing doens't meet either of those criteria. Joe Skydiver dieing in a plane crash, or after "falling out of the sky" turns more heads, so that's why the news always seems bad... (p.s I'm a television news producer -- and as often as possible, my newsroom DOES put positive skydiving stuff on the air. Examples? News anchor does tandem jump, demo jump into big local fair (including great freefall video from one of the jumpers), Santa jumps in to visit group of local kids, skydivers land atop a movie theatre during the premier of Mission Impossible 2 - and the theater wins award for "best movie priemere in North America" of the year... there was even a 1 minute long "video postcard" I produced that ran during commercial breaks -- showing canopies high above, then sweet landings... There are over a million viewers in our extended market area, so hopefully people here see that skydiving is more than simply risking your life jumping out a perfectly good plane, and parachutes "not opening"...) You can always call up the local tv station and invite them to do a feature on skydiving if thay have a reporter who will go for a tandem jump ... the positive coverage will be worth wayyy more than the the cost of giving someone a free tandem! My knee hurts

I got a couple of great jumps in on Saturday, then on Sunday, I was kneeling down for something, and my left knee went "pop pop pop". Today the doctor said "torn ligaments". I guess I won't be jumping for at least a month -- maybe longer. I'm hobbling around now with a cane, doing the heat treatment thing, and gulping down anti-inflamatories. I'll be heading back to work on wednesday, limping around like a gimp... This SUCKS!!! "There's nothing new under the sun"
