I'm with Bill on this one -- also, there are many people who are sensitive, or even allergic to the various chemicals that go into perfume... Let's face it -- if you spend money on fragrance, you've been "sold" by huge corporations that create an artifical need for their product with expansive marketing campaigns... the same with make-up, designer clothing, etc... nobody needs any of it... Well, Bill -- I think we've discovered your weakness -- or strenght! I for one appreciate your willingness to express yourself so eloquently in this forum! I would say that "we" (perhaps better put - "our top minds") don't have a great understanding of matter ... the universe contains more matter than that which is baryonic ... we have such little knowledge of what the universe contains... Well as I am an atheist, I don't believe... but my limited understanding of the concept of "god" is that "god" did create everything ... if you believe in a "god" that did not create the universe -- well now the concept of "god" (as I know it) becomes rather nebulous... how do you define the difference between "god" the creator, and a lifeform more intellegent than humans? As we can manipulate the laws of nature, or the physics of our part of the universe, for our own comfort -- do we not qualify as "god"? "There's nothing new under the sun"

I'm an atheist. I do not believe this universe was created by a being. However, I agree with Bill when he said the greatest mistake is to deny others their beliefs by claiming our way is the one and only. We really don't know. I do believe that we are not alone in this universe, and that perhaps there is, or has been in the past, other intelligence out there. But this does not imply the existance of a "divine creator". Compared to simple single-celled organisms, we ourselves must seem "god-like". Perhaps there is a species whose intelligence dwarfs ours, making us appear to them as the single-celled organisms appear to us... who knows??? But a "God" in the religious sense? Nah... I have some USPA stats -- 1996 to 2000 (got these from our Safety Officer on Awareness day): Fatalities by experience: 1 - 200 jumps ... 40.6% 201 - 700 jumps 26% 701 - 2000 jumps 16% 2001 + jumps 16.9% Generally, the statistics seem to indicate that most fatalities are from low turns and malfunctions (low or no cutaway / reserve fired in to the main)... Of course this is just a small glimpse of a more detailed picture, and the statistics don't reflect what percentage of all jumpers fall into each catagory... "There's nothing new under the sun"
