Jumping From A Perfectly Good Airplane
crotalus01 replied to Quake120's topic in Introductions and Greets
expect an average temp of -45 degrees of whatever the current ground temp is at altitude (not always true, just generally), but you most likely won't notice it until much later in your progression (assuming you continue on to get your license). never felt like backing out on my tandem. contrary to what most people think, in my experience (and many others i have talked to) the first jump is not the scariest - my scariest jump was around #20 or so. i bought my rig with 2 years left on the Cypres for about $2,500. yes and no. you notice it a lot more on your training jumps than you do on your first tandem, mostly due to sensory overload on that first jump. ask your instructor. i chewed gum on the way up and in freefall, but some TIs may frown on that (mine didn't care). have fun! it's a unique experience. IMO that whole part of the film was to show how people in that area of the world get recruited into suicide missions - they have NO hope for a better future, so when they are told by religious leaders that if they are shaheed (martyred in the name of allah) they will receive an instant ticket to paradise. in reality (which they did not show) the families of the shaheed are well taken care of - Iran is known for donating thousands of dollars to the families of suicide bombers striking Israel... if you ever read a direct transliteration of the Hebrew texts, the KJV is incorrectly translated on many points due to a misunderstanding of the way Hebrew idioms work, as well as losing the actual subject of particular passages. ancient Hebrew is a language that heavily relies on over-emphasis of the subject matter, a point that is totally lost in the KJV for the most part. traditional western idea of Asia or actually most of Asia? define "most of Asia"....or let me: Israel, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Japan, Thailand, N Korea, S Korea, China, India, Nepal, Mongolia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Tibet, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Phillipines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, U.A.E., Oman, Qatar, Iraq, Iran, Singapore, Maldives, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Brunei, Laos, Taiwan, and a large chunk of Russia. have you REALLY been to most of Asia?? basically the message of the movie was that instability in the middle east is vital to American oil interests, but also works against the oil industry - hence the ending where the kids attack the oil platform. also why the CIA had to assasinate the Emir's brother before he could perform a coup and stabalize the region. hope that helps - its a good but very disjointed film. Collapsable Pilot Chute on a Sabre 190. Thoughts?
crotalus01 replied to Big_Red's topic in Gear and Rigging
davelepka, your post brings up a question: is there listed anywhere the average canopy speed by wingloading on a no wind day? obviously i know its going to vary by canopy make, trim etc, i am just looking for averages, for a straight in approach, no risers. Collapsable Pilot Chute on a Sabre 190. Thoughts?
crotalus01 replied to Big_Red's topic in Gear and Rigging
i have a sabre 190, loading it at 1.2/1. i have a collapsable pilot chute as well. i have jumped a sabre 190 with a regular pilot chute and to be honest i couldnt really tell a lot of difference. same thing with a collapsable or regular slider (have had both on my rig). however, i have been told they DO make a difference. anyhow, ask your instructors that have seen you fly, they will (hopefully) know whats best for you. lots of folks here get upset about anyone loading over 1.0/1 with less than X number of jumps (usually around 100, which includes you and i). and i have to add with good reason judging from the incident reports. What's the longest flight you've ever taken?
crotalus01 replied to BillyVance's topic in The Bonfire
Memphis - ATL- NYC - Istanbul - Baku, Azerbaijan - Kabul, Afghanistan with a 4 hour layover in Baku where we were not allowed to leave the airplane. about 21 hours total. OR Memphis- Phoenix - LAX - Hong Kong - Bangkok - Phnom Penh, Cambodia. that one was about 28 hours including the layovers. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD... -

valid points....... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD... -
try not to bring it up but get asked a good bit because of the USPA sticker on my bumper. then its the same old shit about "what if this" and what if that" i wish whuffos would use the science they learn in school to figure out that parachutes are not some mystical form of flight like a UFO As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

thanks for the clarification. just trying to learn.... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

kind of thought it was something along those lines, but he is only holding his reserve handle and not his cutaway, which is why i asked... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
-
just wondering if anyone noticed the photo of the guy deploying after a birdman flight in the new Parachutist article on the Marathon Boogie in the Keys. is there a reason he is holding his reserve handle during opening shock?? i am a newbie, but that seems like a good way to get in a two-out situation... i have worked in the hub at Memphis for 13 years loading airplanes, there should be no problems shipping fedex. just do as recommended, get replacement value insurance, pad the shit out of it as it WILL get thrown around a lot and possibly crushed, and be sure to put an address inside the package, including a phone number where someone can reach you. "There's another scene planned for the day which involves nuns and students. Nicole Sheridan and Kinzie Kenner will take part in that scenario. Sheridan's been sky diving and has something like 100 jumps to her credit, but there are no parachutes in this storyline." from: http://www.adultfyi.com/read.aspx?ID=13092 As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

thats why the ban(s) were/are bullshit...who cares how many foreign parts your weapon contains??? if the ATF is going to confiscate my AK-47 or my SKS and count the number of foreign parts in it, then i guess i am just going to have to pay the fine and do the time.... kind of a weird game at first if you never played the first one (i didnt). there are no cutscenes, the story unfolds in real time during gameplay. i was a bit lost throught the first part, but overall its a kick ass game, lots of fun. basically the earth has been invaded by aliens from another dimension, and you play the part of Dr. Freeman, the only "free man" who is destined to lead a rebellion against the aliens. just give it a few hours and you will be caught up in it even if you are a bit lost like i was. hope that helps.
