Warren Buffett calls for higher taxes for US super rich
chutem replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
I wish I was rich enough to own my own airplane (if you can believe it I am a certified SEL pilot, I am just not current anymore). But people who own airplanes need not worry about me. I won't hold it against them. Their personal wealth is none of my business. I do not seek to socially engineer rich airplane owners into something that they are not. Look into flying clubs. The club I belong to has 10 members with an Archer II. We each pay $56 a month and $38 an hour dry to fly. I can fly a few hours a month in exchange for not having the car payment/insurance cost of a newer vehicle. We do much of the maint on our aircraft under the supervision of an understanding A&P/IA. I know this is not where you were going with your post. I just wanted to point out that you need not be "rich" to fly. James -
You didn't read my post very closely did you? Corporate tax rate is 35% That's a cost that is already passed to you when they sell their products. Reduce the Corporate tax rate to 9% and add a sales tax of 9%, your extra cost being passed to you is now 18% instead of 35% And if you decide to invest your money, you only pay the original 9% income tax. Just shuffling the numbers so taxes get applied in different areas to help benefit you a little more. I read your post and addressed that in my first reply. I don't trust corporations to pass the savings on to us. In the long run I could see it through competition. In the short run. I see corporations calling it more profit. I'm guessing you are in a position to benifit from this plan. I hope the economy picks up and I can once again be in a position to benefit from a plan such as this. The question I have to ask myself is "is this a plan that will benefit our country in the long run/will this plan leave my children further in debt?" What say you to this? In 2010 would this plan have generated more tax revenue for the US? I believe we need more tax revenue and decreased federal spending. I'm prepared to spend a little more on taxes (only if spending is cut and not to reduce taxes on the wealthy) are you? James

Around the Phoenix valley we see in the nieghborhood of 8% to 10% state and local sales tax depending on where you are. Add 9% and we are up to 17-19%. I'd think very hard about my purchases at that point. This would probably amount to a tax increase for me as I have not done very well the last few years. I have to agree with BV that we must increase tax revenue and reduce spending. How far in debt do we want to leave our children? James

I'll be flying the club Archer down to Kerrville if the weather is good the second week of Oct. Do you know if there is currently any activity at the factory? It would be a cool place to check out. James

There's no place for that kind of common sense thinking here in SC. James -
My first thought is that people with a lot of dispoable income will be less likely to spend it if they can avoid being taxed by holding on to it. How will this effect the economy? I'm growing less trusting of corporations (in general not only in this instance) to "share the wealth" by passing on their tax savings to consumers. Over time it should happen through competition, but that may take awhile. Questions I have would be "elimination of payroll taxes" does this mean no SS or medicare taken from employers/employees. How are they funded or are they scrapped? Would the country have taken in more or less in taxes on this plan? Since you support this plan how would it effect you personally, would you pay more or less? This is my quicky I have not looked into it very hard view. I'm sure someone can tell me what an idiot I am. James

I like having a portable GPS so you can take it on trips. Rental cars are where I need my GPS, hopefully preloaded with all the motels, DZ's, etc. I, too, keep cars for years. I'd hate to have a 11-12 year old "state of the art" navigation system stuck in the middle of my dash. After over a decade of advances, a Ouija board or deck of Tarot cards would probably be better. I love my portable GPS... but it has a little something extra built into it http://www.amazon.com/Escort-Passport-iQ-Widescreen-Navigator/dp/B0049H8VKQ Most all the cops here use laser. Does the laser detector warn you early enough to slow down? James

The Obama proposal says the fee is to be charged to all flights in controlled airspace (most of the US) and excludes recreational flights by piston powered aircraft. Since skydiving is considered commercial flying and most dropzones are in controlled airspace the $100 per flight fee would apply. James
-
We should all be writing our various congressman on this one. If they have not already the USPA should be joining the other organizations fighting this. James
-
Which is the VAST majority of the CONUS airspace. There's very little uncontrolled airspace above 800 ft. Sounds like a $100 per flight skydiving tax. Nonsense. User fees have been talked about for decades. Typical jump operations won't be significantly affected. I don't think there is much chance of this passing. As written it would apply to commercial flights in controlled airspace. That (taxing skydiving flights) may not be the intent, but it says what it says. Please show me as written how this would not apply to skydiving. James

None. PCA is Class A and Class B. Class A is above 18000. Class B is the old TCA airspace. Wiki Clicky Per the wiki clicky controlled airspace is class A-E. How many dropzones are in controlled aispace? James

You are working towards an MBA if I remember correctly. Will this "blemish" on your credit record possibly hold you back from getting the big job and cost you more in the long run? James

Gov. Brown vetoes bill to restrict military funeral pickets.

No slight intended. I wonder if he considers Scott Campos a schmuck? James -

How do you know they are schmucks? They don't choose where they are sent to fight. Exactly. They sign up to go wherever the politicians send them (instead of signing up for a job where they know the sort of work they'll be doing, who their co-workers are, and the office location). Sixty years ago that meant to fight Axis forces which had actually attacked America. Until the Soviets went bankrupt trying to keep up with us 20 years ago it may have been to protect us from a rather large military. Since then they've gone where directed as projections of politicians' personal power and/or quid pro quo to the PACs and 0.4% of American individuals paying for election campaigns. They signed up to follow orders which hasn't been the same thing for decades. In WWII one of my grandfathers signed up. The military was defending America against countries who attacked us on our home soil so he ended up protecting us flying around in a PBY Catalina looking for submarines that might attack us. Today one of my cousins signed up. Apart from the Coast Guard which rescues boaters who are in trouble, today's military is playing in middle eastern sandboxes instead of doing useful work. He's schlepping around Afghanistan where he's not defending us against credible threats (I'm assuming the Afghanis haven't built a secret camel carrier that they're about to launch for an attack on the United States). While I hope he doesn't get his ass shot off and will consider him a victim of our own government if he does, he's still a schmuck for falling for the advertising campaigns and other propaganda that keep the American military/industrial complex converting tax dollars into corporate profits. I stand corrected and hope that some of these so called schmucks get a chance to discuss it with you face to face. My guess is that you don't have the balls to call it like that with a couple Marines looking you in the eye. James -

Making statements like that is not wise. Sounded like sarcasm from here. James -
Wow! The only PMSing I see here is yours. Just calling it as I see it. Truth hurts but it's better than a lie. And I am a troll and a cock.

Feds warn of small airplane terror threats
chutem replied to wayneflorida's topic in Speakers Corner
I think you underestimate the difficulties of doing that. Assuming you've coordinated 400 people to do so, customers get bagged searched before going through main gates. Catching just one of them would bring out more security than you can possibly imagine. Not the standard fat security guards you're used to seeing, but the well armed members of the police and FBI that essentially live there since 9/11. I'm thinking that pretty well stops it, but lets say you've got 400 extraordinarily lucky people and they've all managed to get through. How, exactly, do you think these 400 people are going to gather in one place and drop off their individual one pound loads to create the 400 pound pile without being noticed? Not going to happen. There are far more likely scenarios. All much easier to carry out. I think this was Kallends point from the start. I was thinking trash containers as collection points in the 400 1lbers scenario. I'll live with the risk as far as small GA planes are concerned. I'm not ready to allow the TSA any more pwer in my life. James -
Feds warn of small airplane terror threats
chutem replied to wayneflorida's topic in Speakers Corner
Right. And how many feet away were you parked from the castle? My guess is you were at least 1/4 to 1/2 mile away at Disneyland in California and perhaps several miles away at Disney World in Florida. I might not know much about some things, but I know quite a bit about that particular issue. Cars blowing up in the parking lots are of no use to the terrorists. None. What they need are photos that will put fear into the hearts of people. Blowing up landmarks does that. Not parking lots. 400 terrorists each carrying 1lb could get it to the castle at either park. Only a moron would discount the possibility of a threat just because it hasn't happened before. It seems to me that this what you guys like to call Pres. Bush for not seeing 9/11/01 coming. But then, you're really not concerned about America here, are you. You're concerned that some rules might be passed which might inconvenience you and your enjoyment of your private airplane. This is personal with you. It's okay to heap all kinds of restrictions upon firearms ownership in the name of safety, but by gosh, don't let the government restrict your personal airplane! How much extra per jump ticket are you willing to spend to fight off this level of threat? Are you willing to put up with the TSA at every dropzone? James
