Would it make you feel better if I said that you are correct? Would you be able to be happy then? Your attitude reminds me of someone who would pop a childs balloon for their own good, because "it would eventually end up that way." You might want to reflect, and think about it for a minute. Nobody said I want to have a toxic waste dump in my yard, and No one said anything about the number of closing airports in the US, or even about being thankful for the president not being in their neighborhood so that the airspace was restricted. SO as far as zoning laws, number of airport closings, and resricted airspace because of presidential visits goes, you are probably 100% correct. Do you feel better now? As far as what I love in the US; I love the fact that I can own my 4x4 pickup, carry a gun around in the gunrack(if it is properly carried;unloaded, if I'm in Illinois I will make sure that I have my FOID card, and not in town). I love that I can go out on my land that I bought for the sake of hunting deer, riding 4 wheelers, and building bonfires and enjoy myself. I love that I have the choice to go deer hunting (as long as it is during hunting season). I love that I can voice my opinions, because I have rights under the first amendment.(unless it offends somone's finer sensibilities, in which case I no longer have the right of free speech). I love that I can jump out of airplanes(as long as they are properly equipped, there is a NOTAM filed with the FAA, and I am wearing a TSO'd rig) I am sure that there are more, but I think that I have made my point. The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

Most people dont appreciate the good "classic" rock these days. those are some of my favorites, and I am sure that one of these skynyrd songs would go great in a skydiving vid; Free Bird Call me the Breeze That Smell Swamp Music I know a little or Dont ask me no Questions just a thought

Its good that you brought this up. However most banks only look at your debt-to-income ratio. What you have out in loans(secured and unsecured) and what you make. The amount of credit doesn't come into play unless you are close to being at that particular banks prescribed DTI ratio. Other things that banks really take into consideration when you start talking about financing is work history, payment history, and how much you carry on credit. It shows a pattern as far as spending habits. Most car dealers use a computerized system that will "auto-approve" certain individuals loans, and auto reject others. I always loved when people would show up with a 700+ beacon score, made a decent wage, and wanted to buy a car. I had no problems getting their deals bought. The ones that I had troubles with are the ones that have 600-650 beacon score. Those people are the ones who tend to live right on the edge of their envelope. They usually had a problem with DTI. CC companies usually dont take into consideration a lot of the above stipulations. They are driven more to find the people who can barely survive from paycheck to paycheck. They make the most money off of these people because they cannot pay the balance during the grace period, and immediatly start racking up finance charges. The CC companies continue to feed off of these people after that first month because they can only pay the minimum payments or a little above. Therefore they are able to consider that person a higher risk and then charge higher interest rates. funny that you bring this up, my home DZ is close enough to the "western whitehouse" that any time he flies in we get grounded. It kinda sucks, but I like him better than what the dark side has to offer. The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

getting a little nit-picky arent we? I was born and raised in rural Wyoming. Zoning laws arent that big of a deal there. Maybe I need to start giving a personal history when I post. Or maybe you can see the positives, and stop looking for the negatives? maybe? The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

I see your point, and I guess that I should clarify. If you carry a balance, and make minimum payments you will never pay it off(paying the minimums). Because they adjust the amortization every time a certain percentage of the principle is paid off. That is why if you have a balance on a CC it is best to pay more than the minimum. Like I said in my earlier post the CC companies figure around a 7 year amortization. If you pay on your card for a year, then they decide that you have paid down enough principle, they will figure the amortization again on a new 7 years. Does that make sense? The way to get around paying interest on a CC is to pay off the balance while still in the grace period. Better? Hey John, That list was made by the "Nuge". We had a thread about it several years ago. It can be found here. I love the US because it is the greatest country on the planet. We have the ability to stand up for freedom. We also stand up for the things that I dont neccesarily think are right, but I tolerate because they are other peoples freedoms. I love that I can own as much land as I can afford, and do whatever I want with it. I love the fact that I can stop at a DQ at 1o'cclock in the morning and get a cheesbuger with the grease. The answer to your question is that you will pay more money through the credit card company. 1st, they have what is called compound interest. 2nd some credit cards deal in two cycle billing(discover). 3rd the payoff is scheduled around a 7 year amortization, which changes every time you pay off a percentage of the balance(thus the low payments). The credit card companies make their money through compund interest, usually compounded monthly. So whatever the balance is the interest is figured from there. When you make your payment, you will pay the interest portion first, principle second. That is why you can litterally never pay off a credit card. With a bank it is different. But, it has to be a "secured" loan, or a loan that carries collateral. By doing that you will carry a simple interest loan. Which means that the interest is figured into payments over a set term. Therefore, you will know ahead of time(when you sign the contract) how much interest you will be paying throughout the term of the loan. The loan officer will have to go over a line in the contract that says how much you are borrowing, how much interest you will pay, what your payment is, and the total loan including interest. That is called customer rights, according to TX law those things have to be disclosed on every retail contract. I hope that this answers your question. If you are considering an unsecured line of credit through the bank we are talking a whole new bird. Mine is a pic of me right after I stepped off into the playground of freefallers. It was like jump #30, I was wearing my Dad's old jumpsuit(it has a patch on it from the 1974 nationals). Mine is pretty self-explanatory, especially if you have ever been on the recieving end of a Russian Kalishnikov rifle. It was an interesting experience, but not one that I care to duplicate. I am sure that you will manage to keep yourself warm. Drink some....Irish coffee, hot toddies, or hot damn. I will be thinking about your terrible plight. It is like 50 degrees outside at 11pm, but that is here in Iraq. Have a good day, and drink 4 or 5 for me. josh The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

I have one of those "one time at band camp" stories. My first kiss pass was on jump #8. I launched a 3 way with two "friends that are girls" from the DZ that had coaxed me along through AFF. As soon as we were stable they both planted one on me. After that 2 others joined us for a round. They all tracked away since I really had no idea what was going on at the time. One of the guys on the load got some cool pictures of it with a disposable camera. I thought that it was fun!! I also have kiss passed a couple of girls since then. One was the ex-wife, another was a friend. They were both on tandems. I have some cool video of one of them. I had a good repor with all of these females, take that into consideration when deciding to do a kiss pass. AC emergency... what hight do you go to your reserve?
jkm2500 replied to yoink's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Which A/C emergency are you talking about. I know of one incident that happened at my DZ where an Otter lost an engine at about 1300ft. Everybody left except a student and instructor. There were 2 reserve rides if I remember correctly. One person went out on their reserve, the other had a mal. Just something to think about. I think that there are several jumpers that were on the load that post here. They have more insight than I do. But it was hilarious video. I have also heard of people getting out on high speed passes at altitudes lower than 1k on their mains. Of course cypres is no longer an issue at these altitudes. My answer to the question, more than likely main unless it is 1200ft or below. Depends on where I am, and what main I am jumping. I am not advocating this action for anyone, just what I would do. I think that you should do whatever you are comfortable with, you have the rest of your life to decide. I guess that it is only OK for single people to use the internet to meet and talk to people. IMO that guy is an ass. There is nothing wrong with getting online and talking to people. The bottom line is that the guy abviously is there with an agenda. He is there trying to meet women, if he wasn't he wouldn't have brought it up. The funny thing is that it will backfire on him if he does ever meet someone from an online forum or chat room. How is going to tell that person that they can no longer take part in an activity that was responsible for them meeting(especially if it is a forum/chat room discussing stuff other than singles). Just my $.02. Don't you mean Joe Dirt? Namin' you that your Daddy must've really hated you. I love that movie

Apologies to Darius and any other who are offended by my post
jkm2500 replied to jkm2500's topic in The Bonfire
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I just wanted to apologize about the confusion on my earlier post. It was not meant to offend anyone, or more especially be an attack on any religion. Now, I sent a PM to Darius, and tryed to explain that my satement was supposed to be taken as satirical humor, not as me stating that Christains are good Muslims are bad. There were too many people saying we are right you are wrong when we got here. Hell, I am an advocate of freedom of religion. I am proud to be serving over here so that other people might be able to express their views. I apologize for the poor taste. The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise. -
No, I don't care much for water.....or swimming.....or sheep for that matter. I hope that you understand. Besides those people out on the boats don't get to have half the fun that I get to. Thanks all for the support. I posted this as information. Not complaining. I actually had a positive experience out here. I know that there are some things that will stick with me forever, but thus is life. I can say that most of the soldiers that I talk to are happy to be here serving our country. We are proud of what we do. It is rarely shown on TV the little children who wave at us as we drive by. There are more people that want us here than don't. We have the duty as Americans to stand up for freedom, whether it be ours or somone elses. These people can now have opportunities that would never have been possible. We know the duty sucks, we are not complaining. Once again thanks for the support. We will continue to be vigilant in our duties. This is a compilation of things that I have learned since being deployed almost a year ago. I am counting down to go home day, and this was in reflection of the past year. It is kinda random, and some of the things have been said before....they just fit really well here. Sorry it is so long. 1. God does exist…….he is not a Muslim 2. There is no such thing as “some quiet time to myself” 3. There is no good time to take a crap. 4. You will only have one decent shower a month, if you get that many…..All the rest will be too cold/too hot/too short. 5. If it can go wrong, it will. 6. It doesn’t matter how much love the Army cooks put into dinner, it still tastes like cardboard. 7. You will cry when your 2 year old tells you for the first time that he misses you. 8. It doesn’t matter how nice you live, someone else has it better. Be happy with your circumstances, it could be worse. 9. The generator will always run out of gas right before the best scene in the movie, right after the next level up in a video game, or right after your favorite song starts. 10. Always have a back up plan. Have a back up plan for that. 11. There is no such thing as “friendly fire” 12. Mortars do whistle, you just have to be close enough to hear them. They make a distinct sound when they land. 13. It doesn’t matter how friendly “we” are, “they” don’t want to come out and play. 14. Friendships forged here are to the death. 15. You can’t get along with anyone for a year, especially when you live in the same room with 12 people. 16. Body odor isn’t that bad, unless you are in close quarters, even then you will make do. 17. The weather here is less cooperative than anywhere else on the planet. It will rain if you have something to do outside. There will be a dust storm if you have to drive somewhere. 18. Fool-proof plans aren’t. 19. Even of you plan for everything, “they” will come up with at least 1 new trick. 20. Never underestimate the enemy. This is their home field advantage; they want to keep it that way. 21. The kindler gentler Army is a crock of $*#&. 22. If you count on someone, they will more than likely let you down. 23. Some people will always be too good to use the same outhouse as you do. 24. Opinions are just that. If you don’t like mine that is your right, but that doesn’t make me wrong. 25. There are too many people willing to stab you in the back to get ahead in life. Spend 30% of your time at 12 o’clock, 70% at 6 o’clock. 26. It doesn’t matter if you are a nice guy or not, you will be taken advantage of. 27. Your associates will steal from you. This is the Army; it didn’t belong to you in the first place. 28. The greatest invention was the laptop. The second greatest was headphones. 29. You can do everything right and still die. 30. Don’t trust anyone except yourself, and be wary of him. 31. You can wear the same pants for 2 weeks; you can go 10 days without a shower. 32. The smell of burning crap will not offend you after the 50th time. 33. The phrase “prepare to defend yourself” will take your breath away. 34. You will be excited about a buddy’s kid. You will watch them grow. You will hear stories about them. You will care about them. 35. You will hear every story that a buddy has to tell, twice. 36. Loud noises aren’t funny any more. 37. Officers rarely make good leaders. Good leaders are rarely officers. 38. It is better to move faster than the enemy can plan for, even if you are disobeying orders. 39. A Private will give you more than any Brigade Commander. 40. Watching someone die will stay with you for the rest of your life. Seeing a wounded soldier will leave you scarred. 41. Iraq is not a good place for a Liberal Democrat. 42. Sometimes shooting first and asking questions later is not a bad idea. 43. You will realize that some decisions that you made were dumb, to the point of possibly getting you killed. You won’t realize until months later how dumb you really were. 44. Living out of a foot locker will teach you what your priorities are. 45. An RPG fired in your general direction will scare the crap out of you, I don’t care who you are. 46. We are in Iraq doing good things. It doesn’t matter what the people back home say, especially about the president. 47. The internet will always go down right before you hit send on a 2 page email. 48. You will say “I am not going to eat another MRE”. You will eat another MRE. 49. God will forgive stupidity, the enemy will exploit it. Be smart, move deliberately, and aim well. 50. A .50 cal machine gun (or any weapon for that matter) can be your best friend. You will spend hours with it. You will talk to it. You will entrust your life to it. 51. The phone will cut off during the most important part of your conversation. 52. The mud, dust and dirt are a part of life. You will hate it, but it will always be there with you. 53. “Jody” calls aren’t just a part of running. You will learn that your buddy’s wife left him. You will listen to his pain, you will sample the rage, and you will feel the hate. 54. Soldiers will always bitch about everything. 55. It doesn’t matter how bad “their” aim is, they will get lucky eventually. 56. Copyright laws only apply to the USA. My Dad used to think that I was crazy (He still thinks I am crazy, but that is beside the point) and instead of telling me that my hairbrained ideas wouldn't work he would tell me that "it'll snow in Phoenix"......Should I tell him its on the way??
