  1. "Every redblooded American knows that the only condiment you are supposed to put on a hamburger is ketchup, or maybe some of that special sauce you like so much here in Canada. Which I think has some mayonaise in it. But, when they start slapping on that mayonaise I could kill somone." 2. Hey voodoo you suck!!! I cant wait to get back from this year of hell. I would like to try it out it looks like FUN. Who else tried it out? josh The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.
  3. I have been away from smoking for going on 5 months. I just put them down.....it was the hardest thing that I have ever done in my life. Esp considering the circumstances. For me, I wanted to quit because if I lived through this deployment I didnt want anything to end my life early. I watched as one too many mortars landed within throwing distance of me. Anyhow, congrats on quitting!!!! SOmething that helped me; dont drink anything with caffiene, and dont drink alcohol. Both cause you to want to smoke a lot more. Drink water for a few weeks. josh The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.
  4. This happened yesterday in town. Since I have a skill which precludes me from going on the missions I sat here and heard about it. I am a signal specialist. Therefore, I am not combat arms, I know it is disappointing. I have talked with several of the guys who were there, I guess it was pretty exciting. http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/12/01/sprj.irq.main/index.html The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

  6. I have been in the Army for 6 years. I am a Non-Commisioned Officer, and I am currently in Iraq. Now, it is convenient to sit back in the comfort of your homes in the Unites States and say that you would or would not do this in this certain situation. However, how many of you have watched an American soldier die from their wounds...I have. I watched as 2 soldiers lost thier lives. I have seen others who were injured, and had to be returned to the States for surgery to put them back together. I don't think that it is fair to fight a battle while being hamstrung. The Iraqi's have no qualms with torturing and killing US soldiers. My question for you is why can't we use thier tactics? I understand that we are supposed to be the moral leaders, but that isnt saving lives. In the situation that LTC west was in, I would have done the same thing. I probably would have gone a lot farther, if there was the possibility of saving American lives. I say that LTC West is a hero! 7. I joined the non-smokers about 10 weeks ago. And every day has been great since. I still get cravings, but not too bad anymore. I gained 30 lbs, but what the hell I am much healthier. I have confidence that you can quit, I am in Iraq and I did. Congrats, and keep it up. josh The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.
  8. I dont know if you guys know it, but Guy Manos directed the movie cutaway. If you have the DVD version of the movie, I think you can watch a commentary by him. It is pretty good. It goes into detail about all of the skydiving and stunts for the movie. I thought it was great that a skydiver turned moviemaker made this movie as opposed to a hollywood type trying to understand the emotions involved in skydiving. The plot left much to be desired, however it is skydiving. Have a great day all, blue skies!! The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.
  9. Good Morning ladies and Gentlemen, I wanted to drop a line out there and let you know what's going on out here in Iraq. Lately, my team hasnt had a whole lot of excitement. Just the regular mortar attacks, RPGs, etc. The task force that I support suffered 2 WIA's last night in an RPG attack at one of the observation posts. We also lost 2 armored humvees in the 2 nights prior to improvised explosive devices. I got the opportunity to go out to observe a weapons cache be destroyed, 8 lbs of C4 makes for some nice fireworks. Lately we have had a lot more air support. Some f-15's, C-130 spectre, A-10, and Apache gunships. They made some pretty impressive flybys, and show of force demonstrations. Other than that the chow is improving, and we just past the halfway point. Have a great Sunday, and blue skies! josh The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

  11. It has definitely been an uplifting morning! It makes us glad to know we have so much support out here. In the future I will try to keep you all updated how things are going out here. The good news today, no mortars in almost 24 hours!! Oh yea, and hot A's for breakfast. One more day down, about 240 left. Oh, and ladies I have plenty more pics of me in uniform Katie let me know where you are down there in Kuwait, if I get R&R I will definitely stop by!! I would love to swap some stories with a fellow skydiver out here. The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.
  12. Dear DZ.comers, What a sensitive subject we have started in on, and so early in the morning. After careful consideration and thought I decided to respond to this thread hoping that maybe there was a point of view that every one could agree on. I want to put a disclaimer on this because, god forbid I offend anyone. I have been living in Iraq for the last 3 months, so I am a little behind on current affairs. Any inaccuracies in information, please bring to my attention so that I can correct them. I hope it’s a good read. First off, I really don't care whether or not a gay couple wants to be married or not. It is their God given right to live as they want to live. Depending on your beliefs as far as religion goes, everybody has the god given right to choose who they want to spend this lifetime with. In my own beliefs, we are here on earth to test our own free will. Find out whether we make the right or wrong decisions through out life, then on to judgment day. Not declaring homosexuality right or wrong, just that it is an option. If we would like to include religion in the topic, and get even farther from the point, we can say that God only wants heterosexual marriages. I am sure that God also wants us to go to church every Sunday. We can list off the 10 commandments again, or for any religion list the boundaries that God has put on us for our time here on earth. Am I going to hell because I didn’t make it to church every Sunday through out my life? I have a response to that as well, why would God (of your choosing) send us to earth to fail miserably? But the whole discussion of religion can be saved for another day, because it has no true bearing on the topic, it is merely a hook for GW to hang his hat on. Now, take a look at the political aspect of legalizing gay marriages....where does it stop? or for that matter where does it start? Every law that we pass in the United States affects people differently. But the whole basis of starting this wonderful country so many years ago was to get away from different types of persecution. Thus the whole line of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Now as adult individuals, do we really need laws saying who we can and can’t marry? For that matter, do we need laws telling us how fast we can drive? Or how we conduct a business? The whole reason for a law is to what? To place boundaries so that everyone can live happily here in the good old USA. A law is not to punish a certain person or group. I can’t have a party at my house until 4 o’clock in the morning without offending the neighbors, thus the need for noise abatement laws. And so on, and so forth. We have allowed the US to be governed by the minority. Therefore, if someone gets into a car wreck and kills somebody, we have to pass a law to stop people from speeding. It happens everyday, i.e.; Brady Bill, banning plural marriages (1840's), etc. We are supposed to be governed by a majority. That means if 51% of the populace says that we can’t wear blue than really shouldn’t wear blue. That doesn’t mean that we can’t have our feelings hurt, or voice our opinions. It just means that we shouldn’t wear blue. (That was a far out example not a basis of decision) Another point that needs to be made is that one of the ideals of our founding fathers was tolerance. We need to tolerate our neighbor and our neighbor’s lives. If not then we are simply asking for more laws to be passed. If we look in the very recent past, anti-smoking campaigns have been on the front page of the news. The entire city of New York banned smoking. Now, was that a bigoted decision? In my mind it was. The business owners had every right to allow, or disallow smoking in their establishments. Because of a lack of tolerance, the smoking portion of the population now has to go inside their homes and draw the curtains in order to partake of their lifestyle. In my own opinion (however skewed it is) those people who wanted to ban smoking had the decision to tolerate it, yet they didn’t. Should we pass a law that says fat people can’t eat at restaurants because it offends me? Or should I just tolerate it? Now let’s look at the history of the anti-gay marriage laws, were they put on the books yesterday, or even in the last year? They have been around or decades, probably written by a bunch of narrow minded homo-phobic men. So now that we are in the 21st century, and things are seen a little differently should we change the laws? Probably not a bad idea. Allow a civil union and get on with life. The last time that I checked, the constitution doesn’t have a disclaimer at the bottom saying: for heterosexual people only. I am pretty sure that it was written for everyone, black, white, gay, straight. However, what we do is open Pandora’s Box for more future legislation as things become more socially accepted. Do we legalize drugs so we can make the potheads happy? Do we legalize plural marriage so that the Mormon fundamentalists are happy? Do we legalize automatic firearms to make the militias happy? Do we abolish speed limit laws so that the street racers are happy? Like I said earlier where does it end? The topic of discussion needs to be more is this good for the general public of the USA, not is this bad for gays. We need to look for what the majority wants, and qualify it with what is good for the public, and then reflect on the very basis of this great country. Ask yourself should there be gay marriages? I am all for the rights given to us by the constitution, I fight for them everyday. So I guess the bottom line after all the ranting and raving is: Is this a good decision? Is it constitutional? Will it be tolerated? Is it good for the general public of the United States? The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

  18. I have an SL2 that I purchased new back in 01. It is a great car, so far the only problem I've had with it is that someone clipped it in the parking lot. But thanks to those plastic side panels, i only had to use some rubbing compound to get the mark off, as opposed to getting body work done. On a side note, I used to work at a saturn dealership (thus one of the reasons for a saturn). I saw several people who brought pictues of accidents that they walked away from. They were back to buy new saturns. The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

  21. If anyone gives you a hard time they obviously don't really care about you or being your friend. There are several people at my home DZ that don't drink, nobdy really says anything to them about it, if they do it is usually a question about why not. To these people that don't drink, it seems the answer " I don't want to" is enough. It seems that when that answer is given, everyone respects them for thier decision. So basically what I'm sayong is that if you don't want to drink, don't. don't take shit from people if they try to force you. thats just my 2 cents The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

    Max Windspeed

At one of the dropzones that I have jumped at, they had recieved a waiver to be able to jump students in winds all the way up to 20mph. They don't have very many no wind days out on the plains, and I'm sure that the student go through a little bit more training about landing with the stronger winds. Where I jump right now, they wont take students up with more than 14mph, and unless you have a license you cant go up with more than 14mph winds.
