  1. It's unbelieveably quiet. There is zero noise outside the building, and I have been inside the building and been unable to tell that the tunnel was actually operating.
  2. Yup. One of my favorite single malts. Got a bottle at home right now.
  3. A couple of months ago, four of us went to dinner at Maggiano's. We had reservations for 7, however we were not seated until 8. We complained to a manager about the wait time and he said that he would take two of our meals off the tab. The food was great, and the service was excellent. The server even went so far as to give us pleanty of extra food to take home. When the bill came around they had not only take two of the meals off, they had also comped our bottle of wine. The manager quickly came back around to ask how everything was and slipped a new bill into the sleeve while he was talking to us. We assumed he noticed that they had accidentally comped the bottle of wine and re-added it. When we got the bill, we looked at the new total: $0.00 It was not a cheap meal, betewen the four of us it was almost $200 originally. The manager definatly went well above what we expcted, and we will definatly be returning.
  4. Silhouette of a Sentry, who took his job as a Student security Prodigy very seriously. I could feel his Rage and his desire for Vengeance at my Extreme interference. I heard him call the Monarch, so I Swiftly Piloted my way..... ...to safety beneath a Cypres tree. I soon realized that he was a Pro Tracking my every move. Fortunatly, just then my Navigator showed up. Unfortunaty she was slowed by her large Stiletto heels. A large Falcon with huge Wings was circling overhead. Running to the plane, I felt like such a Bonehead for getting into this situation. The plane was an AC-130, Spectre gunship. As we took off at maximum Performance Designs of Lightning shot across the sky...
  5. Okay, quick internet search and I figured out what you are talking about. It is a slack line, here is the website you are looking for: http://www.slacklineexpress.com/
  6. I haven't been to sebastian in a long time, so I'm not positive what you are talking about, but are you talking about a slack line?? If so, you can build one with a tubular webbing, a few caribiners, and some spectra cord (the rock climbing kind, not the skydiving kind). You just need to set up a mechanical advantage system with the biners, and use the spectra as a prussic to keep the line taunt. If you're not talking about a slack line, then ignore everything I just said.
  7. In the paper today... http://www.denverpost.com/lifestyles/ci_3581994
  8. Yeah, that's about right. Unfortunatly, a large quantity of beer ended up being sacrificed anyway.
  9. Over the weekend my cell phone was accidently dropped into a large container of beer. It remained in the beer for several minutes before we got it out. I immedatly took the battery off and let the phone dry overnight. When I put the battery back on in the morning, the phone didn't work at all. Resigned that I had destroyed my phone, I decided to try something that I heard about a while back: I soaked the phone for several hours in distilled water, let it dry for 24 hours, and tried it again. It worked!! The phone works just fine now. I was extremely skectipal that this would actually work, but it really did work. I have actually heard of people doing this with laptop computers as well.
  10. Yup jetboils are really cool. I love mine. I made tea on a chairlift last time I went skiing and we had time to cook and drink it during the lift ride.
  11. It must be good to be Mary... She got two world records in the last year and now she is coming home from Thailand to a brand spankin new, fully operational wind tunnel! Happy Birthday!
  12. I saw that last night too and was wondering. Here's the link: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=994900#994900
  13. I have seen that exact thing happen before. The batteries exploded and melted due to overheathing. The reason was the case fan had stopped working. Replacing the case fan was cheap and easy and saved a bunch of money over a new UPS.
  14. Finally.. It's been a while since we've gotten a proper snowfall in Denver. I guess I can't complain about all the 65 degree days for the last month though. Oh, and the continuous snow and 150% snowpack in the mountains haven't been bad for skiing either. It'll be a good rafting season too!
  15. According to a Forbes article today... http://www.forbes.com/markets/feeds/afx/2006/01/10/afx2441911.html
  16. I can answer that...about 30 miles, 25 minutes and $6 in tolls. Or add 10-20 mins and it is free.
  17. Yup..The first time on a snowboard is definatly a painful experience..espically when you catch the toe edge. Fortunatly, the learning curve for snowboarding is much steeper then skiing!
  18. davedlg 1 day (12/29/05) 6 jumps I managed to talk the girlfriend into spending a day in Eloy on our road trip. They were all awesome jumps though...espically the airspeed jumps. I so wish I could have stayed longer
  19. I disagree. The force of friction will be nowhere near the force of thrust from the engines. The only time this could even be true would be if the brakes were on. If the wheels were free to spin, there would be very little friction in comparison to the thrust from the engines and the plane would accelerate down the runway. The speed at which the wheels spin would be entirely determined by the speed of the conveyer....there is nothing the conveyer could "keep up with"
  20. Basically it breaks down to the question of whether the plane physically moves. The answer is of course it would. Simple physics tells us it would...you know, the whole balance of forces principle? Basically on a plane you have the engines producing a whole bunch of thrust. Unless something is counteracting the thrust, the plane will accelerate. The wheels and conveyer you are talking about would simply act like low friction ball bearings, reducing the force which opposes the thrust from the jets. Consider what happens on a frozen lake. You have a difficult time running across it because of the lack of friction with the ice (this is essentially what would happen if a car tried to drive on your conveyer). Now imagine what would happen if you added a source of thrust, say a 300 SF canopy in a brisk wind. You better believe that you would go somewhere!! In your hypothetical situation, the jet would take off more or less at the same time it would otherwise....regardless of the speed of the tires. edited to add...one more thing. The conveyer is what would determine the speed of the tires, not the thrust or airspeed of the jet. The wheels are going to move at the differential speed between the conveyer and the plane and it would have no impact (outside of some minor friction) on the plane. The conveyer in actuality would have no true refrence for the speed of the wheels.
