Does anyone know what portions of the A license proficiency card can be signed off on by a coach, and what requires an instructor? -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

pilot chute packing-copied from incidents
okalb replied to jumperconway's topic in Safety and Training
Take a look at this method http://www.bigairsportz.com/pilot-chute.php There is much less chance of a horseshoe by packing your pc this way. If your main pin were to pop prematurely, there is a good chance the pc would automatically be extracted on its own. -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana -

I have 7 rides on a PD Reserve loaded at almost 1.7 to 1. It flies great and lands perfectly. All 7 landings have been perfect stand-ups. It doesn't have a whole lot of lift on the flare, but what do you expect from a 7 cell square loaded that heavily. Now that I have flown it as many times as I have, I can definitely say that I would not like to fly one loaded any heavier than that. -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Sorry gurlie, I am up in New Jersey this weekend. You should have stopped me...as you know, friends don't let friends go to New Jersey. By the way Marc, jumpergirl has been out every weekend for the last few weeks. You just didn't know who you were looking for. -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

The problem I have seen over the years is that even though the Dolphin may be worth $400, good luck trying to sell it. There is not a big market for a used dolphin. Why should a pay you $400 for a used one when I can buy a new one for not much more. I know several people who have old dolphins in the closet that they gave up trying to sell. Granted if it was cheap enough to begin with and you put a fair number of jumps on it, who cares if you never get a buyer. It was still worth the money I guess. -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Another thing to think about when buying any equipment is, how long are you planning on keeping it. If you are not planning on jumping it forever, then resale value should play a part in your thinking. From what I have seen, over the past few years the resale value on the dolphin is extremely low. I have nothing against the rig, but it is something to consider. -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Wings buys large batches of reserve handles at a time from various vendors. A batch may last them quite a while. That would explain why your rig was made in Feb 02 and the handle is marked 10/01. It certainly wouldn't hurt to get it checked anyway, but technically you do not fall within the requirements of CW03-01 -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Norman Kent took some new shots of Team Synchronicity during their last training camp at Skydive Deland. I just finished putting them up on the website. Check them out at www.teamsynchronicity.com While you are there, pick up a t-shirt to help support the US Womens 4-way team in their quest for gold in France. What you fail to understand since you have not been around long enough is that time in the sport and jump numbers mean a hell of a lot. They may not mean that you are a great skydiver or canopy pilot, but they mean you have been around and seen the mistakes. When you are 16 and get your driver's license, you are told that the person making X turn in Y situation has the right of way. Once you have been driving for years you learn from experience that even though you have the right of way on paper, you never know what the other driver is going to do. You have to look at them and feel what the are going to do. If you can't figure it out you let them go first. That is something that only driving for years will teach you. You can't teach that in school. Once again, it comes from EXPERIENCE. You and several others in this discussion have shown a complete disregard for the experience of others and a complete lack of respect for your "elders" in the sport. It is just that attitude that is pushing us to the point where a BSR to regulate canopy wingloading is necessary. If more of the lowtime jumpers would listen to the experienced ones, this whole thing would be a non issue. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Quote*** Where did he come up with them? Does he have mystical powers or did he just make it up? *** Brian has done quite a few more than 101 jumps and knows more about canopy flight than you or I could ever hope to. It is a little thing called experience, when you get some maybe your opinion will mean something. Right now frankly you don't know what you are talking about. Twin Otter Bench Seats and lights?
okalb replied to tkhayes's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Given that you can stand up straight inside the otter, I don't think your opinion will be the same as the people in the world who are not vertically challenged Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana -
No I wouldn't, but not for the reason that you are getting at. I wouldn't because I have 1400 jumps and I wouldn't support regulation that would say that someone with 1400 jumps doesn't know enough to make up their own mind. I will support regulation that says that someone with 200 jumps doesn't know enough to make up their own mind, because for the most part they don't. As long as there is a way for them to prove they are competent and test out, than a regulation such as this can only help the situation. There is no denying that someone with 100 jumps should not be jumping a 1.5 to 1 wingload without serious training and even then it is still risky. I can sit in a classroom with you all day and teach you about how to safely take my motorcycle out on the track, but until you have done a lot of laps around that track, you are a danger to yourself and the others around you. All we are saying is start out on a small manageable bike before you take an open class unforgiving sport bike out there. Lots of people have talked about regulations taking away your personal right to choose as a low timer, but nobody has come up with any substantial negatives to making people wait until they know a little more before they get in over their head. Thanks for reinforcing my point a second time. Mark If you are going to quote me, I would appreciate it if you quote the whole thing. You have just proven that you are not worth discussing this with any further. Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

Once again you have no idea what you are talking about. I have 1400 jumps and jump a heavily loaded velocity and I have just organized a group of 6 people INCLUDING MYSELF from my dz to go to Deland and take Scott Miller's canopy class. Do I feel I need to change what I am doing....no, but there is always more to learn. -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana
-
That couldn't be more WRONG. It absolutely affects my behavior when I have to worry about a low-timer killing me or, when I have to scrape them up off the landing area or, when my DZ gets shutdown because too many are getting killed. The reason the people with the higher numbers are for regulation is because we have been around long enough to see what has been going on. Actually, I consider my own canopy progression a little to fast, but when I sat down and reviewed it last week, I realized that it almost perfectly fell within the guidelines that we are proposing. -OK Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

A very good point except for one thing. If you had 400 jumps over 12 years, at least you would have been in the sport for 12 years. Time in the sport is experience in itself. Hopefully someone who has been in the sport for 12 years would have seen enough to know that they shouldn't jump that HP canopy. Jump numbers are not the perfect solution, but neither is anything else and they are the best we have. We use jump numbers as a qualification for lots of things in the sport. None of them are perfect, but we have accepted them as the best we can do. -OK
