Depends on what I do. Always on the left hand and Index- and middle fingers through the loop. On RW the alti is on the back of my hand, when sitting on the side (at the thumb) and on the inner side of my hand on trackdives. The velcro is always under my jumpsuit - thight on RW jumps and even tighter when freeflying. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Sabre 135 w/ 25 jumps ~ 1.4 WL
BenediktDE replied to Kimblair13's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I started jumping a Sabre-2 170 @ WL (very) short over 1.3 and I must say that in my eyes this was a bit to early. I needed ~25 jumps to be able to land it on the spot I wanted. I am sure I will be happy with that WL for several hundred jumps. The only reason to change to an other canopy would be to get exactly the same model with different colors. (mainly black now - don't like that) Safe landings to you all! For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -
I insist on not breaking off under 4 265ft (1,300m) because I want to pull over 3,000ft (not under 900m). If the sight is not perfect (e.g. small pieces of clouds) I even break off 2 seconds earlier than that. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Wow, sounds like not routing the loop through the housing's grommet is a common mistake. In this thread 5 cases were reported - luckily nothing serious happened to anyone. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

I did the same early this year in Portugal but did not have the chance to fix it quietly and saw a DZO, my Instructor and late myself turning very very pale... Since then this incident is part of every AFF course on the DZ to teach the students not to touch anything they do not 100% sure with. What is your favourite part of skydiving?
BenediktDE replied to Orange1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I love both but like the freefall a bit more than the flight. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -
I try to translate my signature: Exit from 182: From the wheel a nice back flip and coil up as a ball. That's like on a parish fair - but quicker and without the stupid music. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Urghs. Sure? I learned "Pull" - "Pull at right Altitude" - "Pull stable" For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

As a low timer I was briefed as follows: Breakoff is at 1500m (4930ft) if you are in the formation or close to it. If I notice in 2000m (6560ft) that it would no longer be likely to get in the formation for whatever reason start tracking in this altitude in 90° to flightline. (Flightline was easy to find since the jumprun was parallel to a coast.) In the end the later was what happened. I was very low and tracked from 2000m to 1000m and deployed in an airspace clear as fresh water. ;) For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Well, hope you do not mind me forwarding a fact: There was a cypres save a few weeks ago here in Germany where a jumper fell into a 16way with enormous speed and knocked out an other jumper who did not regain consciousness before landing. He broke an arm but lives. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Very nicely done - thanks! For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Ouch! My best wishes for a speedy healing! As for your question: I inspect my gear in the morning checking all straps and stitching I can see, switch on the cypres, do a test pull on the PC, check the bridle and open the reserve and cut away velcro occasionally (aprox once a month). Before I put the rig on I do a main- and reserve pin check and have a (rather short) look at the bridle routing. After putting the rig on I check the chestrap is closed and to my EP drills, then board the plane. (Checking I have my alti, Goggles and helmet.) Half the way up I check my chest strap and that the handles are in place and not loose. When we prepare for jump run I again check my chest strap, PC and reach back for the main pin. I do seldom ask for pin checks unless I have a reason to think it might have moved. Then I check for my leg straps being evenly tight. Video: Poor seperation after break off.
BenediktDE replied to SuperKat's topic in Safety and Training
I do not want to sound like the not-even-100-jump-wonder, but after seeing the second video I saw something very confusing: Look at your heading: You look in the direction of the yellow jumper. During the pull sequence you perfectly stay in the heading. Your chute opens perfectly sweet in heading and when you look up we see the close jumper deploying in front of you. How can this happen? Video: Poor seperation after break off.
BenediktDE replied to SuperKat's topic in Safety and Training
When I saw the video I first thought "URGH!", then "I would have a long talk to that guy before jumping with him again." Now after you tell me he still thing it was not that bad I am rather sure that I would prefer to jump with someone else and not him. Glad you are doing fine! I'm not sure if this is the right forum for the question, but it seems like http://www.icaruscanopies.com/ is down. Do they have an other address now? For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -

"Depends on What type of jump" I would jump without an AAD but would be more picky about what I do. I am a beginner in Relative Work and jump with other beginners. Maybe I would prefer to do some solos whilst without AAD. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

I did not know if I love the sport enough to continue after my Level 1 Jump (never did a tandem). I liked it very much but just now I am starting to get the feeling what this all is about. What I felt and saw at others: I think most people that start like to fall out of a plane and like to feel that they can fly. This is a lot. Then, after getting more and more feeling of the wind they get either addicted or they start jumping less. If I have a look at my DZ, where there were 35 students starting and where are now just a hand full of really active ones left it seems like there is a rather low share of those who get addicted. There is an option missing: [X] I did not have a reason to downsize yet. I know I still have not done everything my canopy can, so why should I switch? I think here in Germany people tend to downsize even quicker than in US. (Just get it from the postings.) For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

How often do you pack yourself?
BenediktDE replied to Antidote's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I never used a packer exept for a few of the AFF jumps where I was taught to pack. I jumped my own packjobs (with an instructor doing 4 checks during packing) in my AFF Levels and do so since then. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.
