Hi, today I experienced a hurtfull opening. At first I shouted at my canopy but later on the ground I remembered that I felt to be rather fast at pull time. I was sit-flying at a speed of aprox. 150 to 165 mph until 4500ft. At 4500ft I went on my belly to decelerate - no track since I was on my own. Now my ProTrack tells me that on the moment I went on my belly I startet to accelerate to a speed of short over 170 mph. I had that speed when I pulled and I hope you can not imagine how this opening felt. My weight with all equipment is about 230 pounds and I am 1,97 meter tall - so I am not heavy but still not an ambos in freefall. How can it happen that I did not at all decelerate but accelerate when I go on my belly? Find the ProTrack Graph attached. acquiring a sponsor - looking for photos
BenediktDE replied to BenediktDE's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Hi, I'd like to talk a company into buying 2 Wingsuits and Rigs and would like to show them some photos of flyers in the air. I am looking for photos that's quality is high enough to print out and add them to a portfolio I could hand to them. Prefered would be photos of maily yellow or yellow/white flyers. Can you help? What are your thoughts on Pilatus Porter aircraft?
BenediktDE replied to McDirt's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I thought that might be a safe assumption to make since they are being marketed and delivered from the factory with a jump door in place -
If I have not jumped for several weeks I use to get a bit nervous during the flight up. Beeing concentrated on doing the checks and drills perfectly helps a lot and the best cure still is the door. ;) BTW: Don't forget to repack your main if it was packed all the time! Did You Ever Second Guess Yourself?
BenediktDE replied to MagicGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is my way how I got to know how nice skydiving is: My mother used to be a glider pilot from her age of 14 and I was very early infected by the fascination of flight. I tried glider flying, paraglider and hot air balloons but there was still something I was missing. I did not know what is was - there was just something that was missing. I never did a tandem due to the reason that I never liked that someone else but me is in charge for the flight. So My first jump was a Level1 without booking the whole course. A funny thing: The reason I started skydiving had nothing to do with my desire to fly. I just searched for an other "kick" like I got to know when Bungee jumping. After my Level 1 I noticed that this was not the "kick"-game I expected. I knew I liked it but still did not know if this was my sport. So I signed up for the course just to get to know the sport. In Level 2 when I did turns for the first time there was a huge switch that was turned. I noticed I was able to steer my body in the air and still in freefall I felt that this was the "flying thing" I always searched for. Back on the ground I noticed there was nothing missing when flying a glider, a paraglider or a balloon - there was something to much: the aircraft around me! So for my experience: Just try it and find out what it is - you'll have no control of how you feel about it. Try it and I am very positive about you liking it! And to answer your questin: I never second guessed myself! -
DUTY? / importing canopy from US to EU
BenediktDE replied to mostwanted's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Did you? Heard that about Begium as well. Next time drop me a line and import it to Germany. As far as I know we only pay about 2 - 4% (plus 16% VAT) and you should be able to import it to NL without any further duties. What kind of a question is this? Sure i would. Sorry, could not resist. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

In Germany (just one licence, no A B C D) you have to do 3 exits from 1500 an from 1200 Meter. One of the examination jumps for the licence is an unstable exit from 1300m or below. I terribly feared it before the first jump and started to love it later. :) For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

I jump Sabre 2 and have a hard opening in X jumps (on average)
BenediktDE replied to veter_'s topic in Safety and Training
Only few jumps (35) on my Sabre2-170 but always had very nice openings. Not always in heading but nothing hard. (once opened in high speed - strong one but not hurting) Really like the sabre2. Once had a very hard opening on a PD 9cell 210sqft For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -

OK, then take care about the evenings: "Check with your doctor before using these products if you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks per day. The ibuprofen in these medications can cause stomach bleeding." (from: http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/otcdrugprofiles/drugs/fgotc012.shtml) Sorry, could not resist. I talked a lot to some of those who "cut away" (to speak with the movie) and found out that you have to be able to live with very few money most of the time. You have to have as many ratings as possible. (Tandem is a must - AFF also seems to be a must) Make sure you can afford good insurances. It is very easy not to be able to earn a cent in this job. (spread ankle, hurting neck or just a cold) I am thinking about trying to do a living from skydiving but I know this won't be in the next few years. I need more experience and ratings. In the meantime I will try to get as many information as possible. I am talking to many people and will work at a dropzone for free for a few weeks just to get the feeling of it. Before I do just a large step, I want to be sure this is the way I'd like to live for some years. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Skylord and the Hop 'n Pop Deal with Each Other
BenediktDE replied to skylord's topic in Safety and Training
Yes, Altitude burn slower than expected on a hop & Pop, doesn't it? Here in Germany we have to exit at 1,200 Meter (~4,000ft) to get the license. I also disliked to exit at this altitude but once you did it it is OK. (Sure this is the reason we all had to do it.) Safe landings! For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -
Coldest temperature at the exit ever jumped: -35°C (-31°F) That was no fun. Everything over -20°C (-4F) on exit is fine. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Think back if your nose and sinus was free on that day. If not 100% try a jump on a day you are sure about it. If not - ask a doctor to check if you have an anatomic problem that could cause the problem. (Friend of mine had to quit scuba diving for that reason.) Money and AFF: I would wait until I have the money I need to do the license and some additional jumps. Something to think ybout is getting a gear early - be sure to ask your instructors when buying your first gear. Enjoy! Stay safe! AFF level(s) you had to repeat?
BenediktDE replied to aftermid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
For the question: No repeats, nearly had to repeat Level3 because my legs were spread to much and therefore I did not fall very stable but did all I had to do. Level4 was then OK again. An I failed to achieve all the goals set for a jump after AFF very often. (RW-Training) For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -
I tried to use them but can hardly pull them so I am not able enough to dose how much I pull them. So I stay with some rear riser playing at the moment. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Oil Price Rise = Jump Ticket Price Rise?
BenediktDE replied to Adriandavies's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Go to Belgium: closer, cheaper and nice non-commercial dropzones. As a member (100EUR/year) you pay 17,50EUR for a single Ticket, 16EUR in a block of 11, 15EUR in a block of 100. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -
When is the right time to start sit flying???
BenediktDE replied to jasonRose's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think the right time is when you have the feeling you should try something new and your instructor has the time to explain the risks and all the things to take into consideration. Ask an instructor. Enjoy! For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -
I learned "If something is out cut away and pull silver!" I'd pull silver without cutting away only is there is nothing out. (Hard pull, low emergency exit, hackey not found....) For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.
