No matter how you dice it, old things tend to break. Was a day when 40 was way old. Times change, gramps... _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

These are good reasons to avoid human cloning right now. Cloning technology is simply not ready. Once these are worked out, it should be a very viable and happy alternative for couples who can't have children any other way... BTW, solving these may solve the aging problem as well! Long live longevity! _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

Fortunately, language is defined by usage, so whatever "looks right" to you and enough readers is "correct". It is a myth that there is a right and wrong way to speak or write. A language is a dialect with an army. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

I get nervous on a ladder, but not in a plane. Those heights don't really seem "real". Ladders are. I especially hate when you get high enough so that the thing that is holding you up looks too small to support you. Like being at the end of a 75' arial ladder (fire truck), looking down it seems like someone replaced that really big truck with a Tonka toy. Brrrrr... _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

Nice choice. I was going to say that the thing to do is get as much resolution as you possibly can. The Olympi do well here. Also, check out http://www.dpreview.com/ for tons and tons of reviews. BTW, now that you have the camera, take a picture of a blank white wall and look for "hot pixels". These are manufacturing defects in the CCD, and if you find one, exchange the camera right away. They look like tiny colored or dark splotches (tiny) that always appear in the same place on the image. They are fairly common, but unacceptable. Enjoy! _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

Well, some Shark I am. I just love finding the "right" thing for someone. It might be something hand-made, cheap, or as expensive as I can afford at the time. It depends on the person. Parity is only in thoughtfulness and love, not money spent. Reality is that you can't show up with vastly $ mismatched gifts. Anyway, it usually seems to balance out OK without worrying about it too much. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

You bet. There are at least three. 1. Elections - The George I regime totally mis-timed the Gulf War. They peaked early, and ended up losing to Clinton over economic issues, despite having been hugely popular early in the term. Chaney, Remsfeld and the rest were there for that disappointment, they've learned from their mistakes. 2. Past Shortcomings - Again, the old soldiers miscalculated at the end of the Gulf War, pulling out assuming a revolution would finish the job. It never happened, and they have been frustrated ever since. Nnow that they are back in power, they aim to complete the mission. 3. Present Difficulties - The hunt for Bin Laden et al doesn't have good enough media play to keep the nation's attention (I think they underestimate us, but...). They think we are like children with ADD and need a hot war on the scale of an Iraqi invasion to make it seem like they are doing someting about terrorism. There are others, like increased police and executive branch powers that every administration has always wanted. With people willing to sacrifice freedom for (imaginary) security, now is the time to get it. Oil is in there somewhere, and dealing with the threat of NBC weapons is probably about 12 on the list. By the way, where are the isolationist and libertarian Republicans? Perhaps they have seen how the Democrats have self-destructed over sub-ideological differences, or remember their own self-immolation in 92, and are keeping quiet. Good move. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

No, but we used to suck up butane from lighters and blow that. Not as spectacular, but easier to execute. Went nicely with the nitrous from the whipped cream cans. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

Oops. Bad advice. Always use cold water to clean blood, the heat will just make it set. Peroxide is great for removing blood, although it might do a number on the fabric. Test on a hidden area first. That Oxyclean stuff might work well, also, I've never tried it. The idea is to break down the hemoglobin, which is where the red color comes from. Note that even if it looks clean, it is still quite traceable. In the event this is an issue, burning is a good idea. Or, if you can bag everything up and dispose of it where no one will look. Just make sure you get it all. Blood has a way of spattering places you don't expect, and the spatters are a dead giveaway, pardon the expression. Also, despite what you may have seen on the Sopranos, draining blood down the tub is probably not a good idea, either. The trap can retain it for some time. They tend to use bleach, I'm not sure why... Hope this helps! _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

One company I used to work for had an awesome profit-sharing plan, and awesome profits. They cut checks every quarter, at one point, it got as high as 40% of base salary! Everyone in the company, from the CEO down to the janitor got a cut. They also used to do a turkey at Thanksgiving, and at Christmas, an armored truck would drive up with stacks of $100 bills they would distribute to everyone. Later, as the company grew, the turkey became a gift certificate, and the $100 bill became a check for "more or less $100". Some bean-counter figured out they had to withhold taxes, etc. To the companies credit, rather than just taking it out, they went through the trouble of figuring out for everyone what the equivilent amount would be so that your check would come out to $100. Sometimes, math being what it is, you might get $100.02 or something. I've heard that since I left, profits have gotten weaker, the bonuses have gotten stingier. Don't know if they still get their $100.02 or not. Pretty sweet, eh? Yet still, as a manager I constantly had to deal with whining about how this or that wasn't good enough. Such is life... _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

Just go down to your local hardware store and get some of that yellow nylon rope, and some duct tape. Some people like to staple-gun it on, but that's crazy. The duct tape is the way to go... _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

lol! It came with the rig I bought used from my rigger. David Hersey, awesome guy. It still works great, landings just suck. I may a bit "large" for it as well. I haven't been jumping since my kid was born. My choice. I'll probably start back up again in the Spring, one or two weekends a month. Hopefully I will get new gear this summer, and can jump more often at B-P. BTW, 2 hours in only a long way in New England. I did the same drive every weekend I was in California, it didn't seem like such a big deal. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

This is shameful, and will only increase the threat of terrorism. I fear my own government far more than I fear terrorists, and I'm white. God help the brown people. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

Well, you can probably remove the promises and assessments, in case you need to take some action against them later. Be assured that they are going to leave their options open also. Not bridge-burning, just factual. Cover the personal stuff in an informal setting (ie not around any HR people), verbally, not in writing... _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?
