  1. Moralistic hogwash. What research would determine if a lifestyle was a "disorder" or not? It's political one way or the other. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?
  2. They used to be the best, now they are worse that a bus with wings. Sorry, no offense to the bus operators... _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?
  3. Just to prove there are no original topics here, read this. Also, check out The Blank Slate by Steven Pinker. The nature/nurture thing comes down to an initial condition (genetics) followed by chaotic inputs (environment). As we all know from fractal/chaos theory, the odds of two identical outcomes given an indentical initial condition is approximately zero. To answer the original question, the child has the same genes, so the same predisposition, but will never have the same environment, but no one knows for sure how much the gene influences the outcome of being gay. If you have black hair, your genes influenced that probably 100%, but "gayness" is all lot less understood. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?
  4. This might be a piece of urban legend, but I heard once that the UN made a list of the most "free" countries, based on a reasonable set of criteria, personal liberty, civil rights, etc. The US didn't even make the top ten! _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?
  5. That's awesome. Ed Asner is my new hero.

  7. He was a real person. Whatever his issues might have been, he was treated like shit here. It was a low point for the forums, actually. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

  9. Nice. What kind of stats did you calculate? When we were trying to think of a name for my soon-to-be-born son, I wrote something similar, but at the letter level. It chewed on a list of names, and generated made-up names using the probability of next-letter occurance. It was awhile ago, but I think you could give it a starting letter and word length, and it would generate the "most probable" sequence of letters given the corpus. Needless to say, the wife vetoed the names it came up with... _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

  11. I quit a few years ago, just teeth-gritting cold turkey. The key for me was not drinking and taking one day at a time. You don't have to quit smoking forever, just for today. Once you get to the point where cig smoke is gross instead of enthralling, you are almost there. After awhile, you can't even imagine sticking one of those disgusting things in your mouth. One thing to understand is where your weak points are, and have a strategy for them. The big one is oral vs. manual habit. If you have an oral habit, try using gum or something to take the place of the cigarettes. If it's manual, get a scrunchy toy or something to get through the rough spots. Also, be aware of the times (like after eating, first thing in the morning, whatever) when you are most in the habit of smoking, and change your routine around those times. Finally, if you break down and have a smoke, just kick yourself, let it go (forgive), and start again. One day at a time. Don't let yourself fail to quit just because of one setback (or ten, or a hundred). I don't agree with the approach of cutting back first, I think it just makes it more painful and is an excuse for not really quitting. Good luck! _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

    In-N-Out Burger

No freezers, no microwaves, no heat lamps. Never had 'em, never will! Their menu has like three main items on it (hamburger, cheesburger and double-double), plus fries, soda and shakes. The combinations cost exactly the same as if you bought a la carte. The people workling there have the old-fashioned white hats and jackets. Great service all the time. Just really well-done burgers. America at its best. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?

    In-N-Out Burger

Will someone please order me a Double Double, animal style and FedEx it to me Next Minute? I'm dying out here on the wrong side of the country. I miss my peeps from the left side, but I miss my In-N-Out too! Thanks! _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?
  23. I hate it when people say "What?" when they heard you just fine, but need more time to process the information that is slowly creeping from their ears to their brains. By the way, does a house burn up or down? Is gasoline flammable or inflammable? Is it further to Boston, or by bus? _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?
  24. I've got about 150 domains registered through godaddy.com, they are great. Good prices, good systems/features. I wouldn't bother with the extra "hiding" feature. I just give semi-stealth information for the Registrant, Technical and Administrative contacts, and real info for Billing, which they don't publish (do a whois on adspike.com to see what I mean). Had to deal with their customer support, and they were right on the ball. Hope this helps! I know you aren't looking for Web/DNS hosting, but that's a whole 'nother bag of worms... _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?
  25. I'll second that. Not that it happens all the time, but when it does, it's not a huge deal. I'm not sure if it's equipment differences, lack of practicing it as part of emergency procedures, or just luck of the draw, but I'm not sure why there would be a great number of reserve rides for floating puds. The bridle is still where you left it at the bottom of the container! This post basically closes the discussion, however. I will probably continue to jump pull-outs because they are what I have always used, I am comfortable with them, and therefore they are safer for me right now. Either system is safe if used and maintained properly. _________________________________________________ If you hadn't read this, would it have made a sound?
