  1. I agree. Though I'd guess that reading The Parachute and Its Pilot had a massive effect on the lad too. That was when he seemed to change, almost overnight. I think he owes Brian a fifth for the save .
  2. Ever seen a skyvan land? They do not glide well, so the pilot pretty much dive-bombs the runway to ensure that if there's an engine-out, there's enough airspeed to land safely. I've known a student Cypres to fire on a Skyvan emergency landing. All the experienced skydivers got out, and the JMs stayed with the AFF student.
  3. Nookie : Jumps : Beer Owed. Some folk use the nookie section for "anything significant not covered in jumps or beer owed". I'm a purist: outside sex, jumps, and beer, there's not a whole hell of a lot that matters .
  4. Make sure you've got a Cypres 2.
  5. He wrote that in March. The paper's story is dated Nov 23rd. Things change in six months.

    I think

It's only 40 degrees here too. But I'm measuring in celcius . That's over 100 fahrenheit, fact fans . bgill is gonna get his North-Eastern ass burned to a crisp on Coogee or Bondi beach today...
  7. In NYC, three stiches in a hand wound cost me $600. To add insult to injury, the sutures were incredibly badly applied.
  8. Nice. You ever done the Cresta Run? That's on my list to get done...

    WTF happened?

Use FireFox, or Opera, or something other than IE. If you must use IE, you must be using XP SP2. Otherwise you're exposing yourself to a number of currently unpatched vulnerabilities.
  10. A good camembert on a still-warm baguette is gorgeous.
  11. Maybe it's just bugs in a fairly complex new feature? Don't be so hasty to jump to conclusions.
  12. There's a discussion in this thread about the relative locations of ASC and the Farm. It appears to have been an honest mistake.
  13. :14:1 3x 41-ways, 1x 13-way, 4x 3-way, and 5x 4-way competition training. Much fun, a case for first formation load, and a mild case of sunburn. Damn cool watching the pilots fly the Skyvan and Otter that close. They made diving from the Otter so so easy .
  14. Yep , and as a result, I'm nicely sunburned .
  15. Bring any half-decent beer and you'll be good. In the US that rules out most of the large domestic brands (like Bud, Coors, etc.) I'd imagine Heineken would be a pretty safe choice.
  16. And this particular segment of the population appears to have been drunk and/or high (amphetamines would be logical).
  17. Even if it's just to say "Hey, he was a nice guy. We'll miss him." That'd mean a lot.
  18. The GIMP is a free Photoshop clone. It's not the most intuitive in the world, but the price can't be beat. Paint Shop Pro is also a Photoshop clone. It's damn good, for a reasonable price. There is (was?) a 30-day free trial available.
  19. Surprised by Nov 2nd? So was the eagle. A really nice take on the whole shootin' match.
  20. Well done! What'll you be doing, workwise?
  21. AggieDave's suggestion is good (as usual). You might try getting him a copy of "The Parachute and Its Pilot" from Brian Germain. Write inside the cover "Dear X: I don't want to have to explain your death to your family. Love, Y." Best of luck in keeping your mate alive.
  22. Exactly. Tracking up or down the aircraft's line of flight could leave you under or over another group. Not so much fun at deployment time. edit: spleing.
