  2. Methinks I'll spend some time trying to work through the physics then, if warranted, slap my rigger.
  3. Best advice so far. I useta be really shy. I got over it by forcing myself to approach people, and over time (practice makes perfect ) I became more confident. The nice thing about DZs is that there's always a conversation starter, from the colour of someone's jumpsuit to landing directions, to what kinda beer is best.
  4. I was told by my rigger that all things being equal, a more heavily loaded canopy will open more slowly, and that all canopies have a maximum suspended weight which, if exceeded, means that canopy simply won't open. I've not yet read up on the physics of this, so I can't comment further. Hopefully Bill or someone can explain or correct my errors.
  5. Fight Club. Google is a wonderful thing.
  6. '71 (skyvan), '71 (skyvan), '59 (stretched DHC Beaver with turbine). Not sure how old the new-to-us 200-series Twin Otter is.
  7. Hey, old timer! What's a Cardinal Puff?
  8. The smallest canopy ever landed was 39sq ft. There's only a handful of people in the world that could safely land it. You and I are definitely not in that group. Nope. It'd make you look damn stupid (and a good deal flatter) if you tried to jump smaller canopies. You wouldn't give someone learning to drive the keys to a Formula 1 car, would you? Take your time and learn at a sensible pace. Hospitals aren't a hell of a lot of fun.
  9. I'm not experienced enough to instruct you on the technicalities, but this I can say: take your time. The biggest problem I see is folks going "oh shit - I need to be all the way over there" and taking off at a rate of knots. By the time they realise "oh shit - I'm going pretty damn fast" they've just set themselves up for "Oh Shit!"
  10. I'm not sure about packing videos - I find it hard to translate from a 60cm 2D screen to the 3D ball of nylon and string in front of me. Looking at people packing did nothing for me until I'd been taught to pack. Then I could (sorta) understand what was going on, and I was able to remind myself of the bits that had slipped my mind. Note: learning to pack will be a frustrating process. Work through it - it's worth it in the end
  11. You want him to be hot, right? Walk into your local bar, and ask for a neat, single Jack. Sorted.
  12. Apply! Apply! Apply! It sounds like the kinda fun thing they'd do for an end-of-season special... the special event they ask about could be qualifying for your A licence .
  13. Not at all, darling. There's plenty of style-deficient men that could do with a little tarting up .
  14. Go. If, once you've decided to go, you change your mind and stay, two things happen: 1- You piss off the new company. After all, you reneged on a deal. Especially if they think you used their job offer as a negotiating chip. 2- Potentially, you're never quite trusted any more at the old company. Especially if they think you used the job offer as a negotiating chip.
  15. "Rarefied Air" makes perfect sense, as one of the meanings of rarefied is "less dense". It's common, though maybe not in skydiving circles, to refer to air at altitude as being rarefied. "Rarefied Air Molecules" makes little sense. Oh, and I know nothin about the video in question. I'm just being a bit of a pedant, 'coz I'm alone and bored in the office today.
  16. Disclaimer: I don't know you, and I've never been in the military. Option three sounds like shit. All the money in the world ain't worth shit if you hate having to get up in the morning. Options 1 and 2 aren't mutually exclusive. You mentioned that you're in communications - what kind? There's plenty of courses to help military/ex-mil folks rejig their skills for the civilian world.
  17. Maybe 'coz he thinks he looks like Pierce Brosnan in it?
  18. Told the boss to stuff the bandwidth limits . Poingnant to see myself doing rodeos with Rusty . And I've noticed myself in what looks like a Starcrest at the beginning too!
  19. Bet I can guess what triggered your interest .
  20. 'Coz if it drops below 50, it'll explode.
