Canopy Repair – What to do in the interim?
bob.dino replied to Lostinspace's topic in Gear and Rigging
The thread. -
Umm, have you realised who you're asking? Why not ask RiggerRob instead?
-
That there is the number one reason I'd consider getting myself a tandem rating.

Sabre 135 w/ 25 jumps ~ 1.4 WL
bob.dino replied to Kimblair13's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This brings up a point I've been thinking about recently. For the Hot Swoop Gods™ amongst us: how about next time some low-timer talks about an inappropriate downsize you borrow their rig and show them just what can be done with it? If a picture tells a thousand words, what does a 150ft swoop under a Saphire2 168 do? -
It's been a while since the last time I jumped and didn't owe beer...
bob.dino replied to grue's topic in The Bonfire
Is it the first time you haven't owed beer? -
:0:0 No team training for a couple of weekends, as our rear float is practicing drowning with style*. Went flying to get my airtime fix instead . * She's getting her PADI Open water ceritfication.

In my limited time in the sky, it appears to have to be cold and humid (aka damp) for that to occur. Does that fit with your experience?

Profit vs. Safety/Rules/Right Thing To Do
bob.dino replied to Hooknswoop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In Australia, licenced jumpers can only pack their own main parachutes, or with CI (~=DZO) approval, that of another licenced jumper. If you wish to pack a student or tandem main parachute, you must hold a Packer B rating. To obtain this rating, you must pass both a written and practical test. Is there any equivalent rating in the USA? For completeness, Packer A is the rating for packing reserves, and a Rigger is the person that can make repairs & modifications to gear. -
Is there a difference in memory stick and memory stick PRO?
bob.dino replied to cvfd1399's topic in Photography and Video
For the record, Memory Stick PROs can be faster and larger capacity than regular ol' Memory Sticks. Duos are physically smaller. -
APF Op Regs. As Travis said, you'll need either an RSL or a Cypres. However, with 600 jumps you could apply for an E licence, which would exempt you from having to jump with either.

With the appropriate CASA (~= FAA) approvals, we can jump through cloud .

The last Aussie nationals were held in 95-100°F weather. With 80%+ humidity. As Squeak says, wuss .
-
13k5. Our DZ is 500 AMSL, and the APF Op Regs don't allow flight above 14,000ft without oxygen.

Same way I got more jumps than you; practice . Take the html tags for a list and replace the angle brackets with square brackets. See the Markup Help for more.

The APF's weekly email said that http://www.skydivechicago.com was the place to go for photos. Nothing there as yet though.

If you're falling straight down the hole, it's vaguely right. There'll be all sorts of other funky effects related to the density of the air, vortices around the edge of the board, etc etc etc. However, I think Bill's suggestion is a decent first approximation, and definitely better than a Wild Ass Guess. Then again, on occasion I have been known to be wrong .
