"Don't fuck up."

Minor quibble: Ireland is 95% Catholic and Catholic priests aren't called Reverend or Pastor . Now Northern Ireland you could get away with...
-
Really? Wow. All that modern comfort must be there just to lull me into a false sense of security. I thought it was the way of the Japanese electronics company? And Boeing receives no subsidies? Neither side can claim the moral high ground in that particular trade dispute. True. Much like a Yugo .

It isn't one, but they'll probably think it is. Pack it in your checked luggage.

Thanks one and all! Anyone know if the recirculating tunnels are quieter? The Perris tunnel struck me as being just a little too noisy for a built-up area.

That's how capitalism is supposed to work.

I've never had to. I'm pretty sure your camera doesn't need a device-specific driver - the "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" driver should work fine and dandy. Make sure the camera is off. Connect the firewire cable to both the camera and computer. Turn on the camera. The camera should appear in Device Manager*, under Imaging Devices as "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR". If it's there it's your software. Download WinDV and try using that. If it works fine, then it's definitely your software (you're not by any chance using Sony Vegas 6 are you? Buggiest piece of shit I've seen in a while). If that doesn't work, I'm afraid I'm stumped... * Start | Control Panel | System, then click on the Hardware tab, then on Device Manager.

Rather you than me. In Ireland, the UK, and Australia, I've never gotten less than 21 days a year. Probably because that's the legal minimum. Public holidays are in addition to that. I'd rather have a life than have work pay for my dinner. To each their own.

Dropped a toggle during landing
bob.dino replied to HydroGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hmm. I'll check with some of the canopy pilots at the DZ and get back to ya. Is your primary concern dropping of a toggle? The reason for the 'hmm' is that last weekend I checked with a guy who has competed at the last two World Cups of Canopy Piloting and he said my toggle usage was fine and dandy. I'll see how many of the big boys I can get an opinion out of this weekend, and I'll share the results on Monday... -
You two make a cute couple.

CPC Championships and Go Fast Challenge Updates
bob.dino replied to swoopster33's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You need the XviD codec. Here's a direct download link for the Windows binary. Download this, run it to install the codec, and enjoy some swooping goodness! -
If it works, how're they supposed to tell you?

Dropped a toggle during landing
bob.dino replied to HydroGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I fly with two fingers in my toggles (index & middle) and three in my dive loops (middle, ring, and pinky). So far, no problems. Other canopy pilots that are far better than I fly with two or three fingers in their toggles. It sounds like you just need to learn to 1) stow the slider and 2) not let go of the toggles when startled . Congrats on the exam . -
You've just crystallised my thoughts on the matter perfectly. For the record, in Australia, to become a Relative Work tutor you must have a minimum of 200 jumps, you must be recommended by the CI (~=DZO) and you must pass a written (& potentially practical) test. However, at least at my DZ, the recommended minimum is 400 jumps, almost all of which should be RW (4-way or 8-way) before you think about getting your RW tutor rating. If I got my RW tutor rating and started teaching novices, I'd make AUD 10 per jump. That's about 0.3 of a lift ticket. Not exactly going to buy me all the drugs and hookers I've been fantasising about now, is it? I like the idea of Pay It Forward.

boldest thing you ever did to show someone you like them

Damn. C'mon. Feed us voyeuristic lowlives some scandal! -
It's not quite enough.... ...after all, you need time off to enjoy life. Maybe if I was working for the US arm of a multinational with sensible policies... ...and maybe it's just me, but I didn't massively enjoy the 'shelter. Everyone seemed to scatter all over the place - the bar, the canteen, the pool - and there wasn't really a big group hanging around to chat to and get to know. Part of being a big DZ I guess... we didn't even know how to buy our beer for first time jumping at Perris! And if we had, half of it would've been consumed by whuffos .
-
The stories I hear from you guys makes me pretty damn sure I don't want to work in the USA. Ten days annual leave, massive hours expected, and for what? SFA respect and an early grave? No thanks!
-
You fooled me in the Otter though![Unimpressed] That's cause you were blinded with lust. Or the midday sun. One or the other.

I just don't eat enough steak or own enough denim shirts to pass as a Texan .
-
Nope. There's been quite a number of threads on this subject, with wildly divergent opinions expressed on whether folk under the age of majority should do tandems. However, all that aside, the primary reason kids don't do tandem skydives in the USA is liability. More specifically, the inability of parents in many states to sign away their kid's right to sue.

Jet Blue aircraft having problems with landing gear
bob.dino replied to flyangel2's topic in The Bonfire
That looks like a) a 747, and b) idiocy by the pilots - check the rudder & the caption. They forgot to centre the rudder & nosegear before applying full thrust. D'oh! -
Everything's bigger in Texas! Louisiana gets a Cat 4 and the Texans have to one-up 'em . Be careful y'all.

You shouldn't need to go near PHP: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/mod/mod_rewrite.html The docs imply that it's by design:
