Mike Carré has an old one covered in cane toad skin. Hardcore.

If you got the job, I think I'd have to go subscribe to Parachutist.

Nothing personal, it's just that "on a different continent" thingy, you know[Wink]

Thanks one and all for the information; it's invaluable.

Thanks Bill & Mike. I've fired off emails to both SDAZ and The Ranch.

Rotating the dbag 360 degrees will give you linetwists, not a stepthrough. I believe the following method will give you a stepthrough (my reserve is being repacked, so I can't make sure): Lay the unpacked canopy out as normal. Pick it up by the lines and place it over your shoulder as if you were going to pro-pack it. Pick up the pilot-chute. Loop it over the canopy, just below the slider, and between the left & right groups of lines. Pull the bridle, dbag, and entire canopy though after the pilot chute. You may need someone else's assistance to accomplish this. Don't jump it.

It really does seem as if no-one's actually reading your posts, doesn't it? Maybe it's best to just leave it for now.

The problem I'm trying to solve: given a full Skyvan/Otter and lots of small groups, the freeflyers near the back have to open a little higher to make it back. A thousand or fifteen hundred feet doesn't sound like much, but over thousands of jumps that's a lot of freefall time given up. Not to mention that some of those freeflyers are flying Velocities, swooping the pond, and need to be on target by 1000'. Are curved jump-runs a sensible solution to this problem? What are the pros & cons? I've tried searching, but haven't turned up much of use. There's a little info on Chris Schindler's site, but it's not written from the perspective of a jumper. Insight from those with experience would be appreciated.

Static Line. Use the Search Posts link near the top of the page, and read to your heart's content.

That's a pretty broad generalisation, isn't it? Some IT security people have their heads in the clouds, therefore every IT security person's viewpoint is useless?

For the record, there's a movement to force car manufacturers to release at least some of their specifications.

I think the main canteen/team building would need to be rebuilt first. It's an old hanger and the termites have been in. Trying to put another floor on could be funny, to say the least .

It's credit to Phil Onis for putting the money into the aircraft, and to Jon Mac for making it such a welcoming place for teams. We're even going to get a half-decent toilet and shower block in the near future. Me = happy & thankful

I've only been here two years; if I can blend in so can anyone!

On Saturday, we take delivery of a brand-spanking-new XL750! It'll fly alongside our Twin Otter, Turbine Beaver, and brace of Skyvans . I think we've got as much turbine lift capacity as the rest of Australia combined . Thanks Phil!

Pity 'bout Oli .

...until someone writes an open-source program for controlling the Neptune. Then, all of a sudden, Neptune purchasers can download & analyse their logs for free. More than a few purchasers would be swayed by the $70 saving over the L&B solution. Given the relatively small investment required in documenting a fairly simple wire protocol, the ROI could be quite significant.

AlexCrowley's post was a well-informed discusssion of reverse-engineering. If it doesn't belong in Gear & Rigging, then neither do discussions on Cypres firing algorithms or threads about container & reserve compatability. Reverse Engineering: If reverse engineering was a Bad Thing®, there'd be very few harness/container manufacturers in business today. I'm also sorry that you are paranoid. Do you lock your car when you leave it in the DZ car park? What about if you visited Perris or Rantoul? Alex is simply talking about the software equivalent: taking sensible precautions. edit: I use Perris and Rantoul 'coz of their size and the fact that you don't know everyone there.

Would you let a 13 year old do a tandem?

Is that just because you fit that description? -
This is a damn cool pic. You've got a way with captions too.

:11:0 Won 4-way inter in the State Meet. Sorted out a couple of blocks that'd been troubling us. A very productive 3-day weekend, despite the relative paucity of jumps. Blame the nasty wind.
