  1. I was trying to figure it out. It looks like some small toys though. Their ground speed once airborne is insane.
  2. Thank ya Marks! Those kids are nuts! Do I sense the need to buy a plain ticket after my GLcamp? Haha. In time, In time.
  3. Here is a ground launching video i found on a kiteboarding forum. Its impressive! http://ataka.speedriding.free.fr/Video/Speed%20Riding%20%20small.mpg (Sorry for not know how to make it a clicky) Edited to add: here are more videos: http://ataka.speedriding.free.fr/video.htm
  4. this is a good point, and obviously those of us that have damaged hearing will tell you this sucks. My shit rings at night, and its annoying. An intresting point- but not entirely valid situation depending.. IF you have a full face helmet, without a liftable visor, you cannot hear anything. The situation doesnt change. I have been on some HAHOs.. and when im within feet of my partneer yelling hasnt helped. Just an observation. On top of it, the yells out of a fullface or pathatic at best. In skydiving we are limited to non verbail communication. This has always bothered me about my full face. This is also intresting.. we fiddle with stuff all the time. Especially when it gets to loosing chest straps, shifting around in the harness, and stowing a slider. The point is there, and I under stand it.. but fiddling (at the correct altitude) is a normal thing. This gent has a good point here. An iPod in freefall would get destroyed by opening shock too. Again, excellent point. What about the thing on the full face though. How do we hear with that on? I for one dont hear wind changes (such as double front speed increase) with my helmet on. Im not critizing your "worst case" model, but i am intresting in exploring it more.
  5. Hey guys on my hunt for a new digital camera for skydiving stills I have been plagued with the $$ factor. I know we'd all love our Digi Rebel XTs with kits but its just not happening for me- since buying the helmet and camera are already on my list. An instresting solution has been proposed to me that i dont know if anyone has had the chance of using- automatic picture taking. Basically you set your digital camera to start taking pictures at 1 second intervals fully focused. Instead of snapping away pictures in freefall its all done for your. The problems I see- How do you turn the feature on-off? Obviously pictures under canopy and in the airplane waste space and if thats not a problem- more importantly it wastes a lot of battery which could be very bad on back to back to back days. Has anybody had any experince with this method? Because than we can completely forget about the whole remote issue. Just an idea.
  6. I shall make a phone call. Thank you for the tip.
  7. If you do something in the Niagra falls region Id probably like to participate. I think Im about 5 hours away- if memory serves me correctly. Unless of course you have something closer to philadelhpia than that. dave.
  8. Forgive my lack of knowledge- but what do you mean by roll out picture? Is this what you mean by "seeing" the actuall flight line and track of the canopy? Dave.
  9. This is what my family vacation looks like- Bumping endcells, head on passes, swoops, cool exits and more good fun with the people Id least expect to say with- my parents. Its hard to explain to my college buddies that i spent my entire thanksgiving break with them... but the video speaks for itself.. Note: Its not the best stuff in the world, and its mostly beginner stuff with the beginner mistakes, but it sure was a lot of fun to both learn and grow from. search "KramVacaSwoopCRW" on skydivingmovies.com let me know what cha think!
  10. Cool man, Tell him that Dave Kramar from the Czech Republic family wants to talk to him again. Haha. He'll get that, I believe. I appreciate it!
  11. Hey guys- MikeX is a good friend of mine but unfortunetly he either changed his cell or I wrote it down wrong- I have some news for him that I want to get to him, even though I think he left the states I wanted to get a hold of him. If you would please PM me a cell #, and e-mail, or another contact I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you. Dave.
  12. I was setting up for a Flare turn/ carve.. thats what the second picture is.. showing the direction change. In that piccture I had already landed and was 'geeking' the camera with the peace sign. And in the third pic- that was my third attempt at a superman on a sub 210 parachute. When I was jumping my 210 I was able to lay out more.. I just didnt want to miss on the 150 and have a broken femur/ pelvis. I was just naming it by the picture on the PST site. Got more pictures today, these are from one of my 3 jumps on an Xfire2 149.
  13. Here are a few of my swoops from Lake Wales this week, on a 150 Nitro. The first is the setup to a carve. The second is a super man. Good fun
  14. What are your comp. specs? I'm with the above post, after exporting it should be good. Also make sure your working in DV NTSC (or PAL if approperate).. dont import in a .WMV format, because adobe 7.0 doesnt handel other formats well live. Thats something i learned the hard way. Make sure when you drop the clips, that its dropping the audio at the same time. As said above, if you seperate the audio and the video than you may run into issues. dave
  15. I listened to a few minutes of it- and I especially listened to the "why downsize" stuff.. and Its really really nice to base a good desigin on good info. That part pretty much sealed the deal in getting my 170 relined versus downsizng to 150. I Love my Diablo (ya ya.. say what cha will.. you diablo haters you) but going to a high performance 150 is still pointless, especially with my jump numbers.. no need to rush things. Just wanted you to know, that it helped at least one person in the crowd. Thanks! Dave.
  16. Thanks PilotDave... That answered my questions- Like I said I heard this story before, and firmily dismissed as bonfire talk.. but wow. Time to appoligize to my friend, haha. Dave.
  17. I've heard stories... and thought they where false, but this is just well beyound me. That dude needs help. Did lutz pull the cutaway handle? I didnt see him pull it, but its beyound me why a parachute would detach like that. Also, no RSL? Or was this pre-RSL days. Thats just weird. Shit Happens up there, even wierd shit I guess.. as far as for landing in power lines next to an open field.. wow.
  18. This is second hand info, and or random discussion one day at the DZ.. but is it true that if you have a cypress fire in a non emergency situation that you are indefinetly grounded in the UK? I could be wrong, I heard this from an Aussie S&TA?
  19. Wow-- A few years a go, when I was 13 or 14, I saw someone that had a cypress fire that waited for her cypress to fire. That was about as insane a thing I have seen before entering the sport. People look HUGE that low to the ground. Im not an I, or I/E, or a high jump number jumper, but waiting for any "back up device" is unacceptable. Had she waited for her cypress- and it not been on/ calibrated at the wrong altitude/ loop not through cutter/ etc... this would be an extremely diffrent incident with a sad outcome. Even worse, what happens if she jumped at a dropzone that had a mountain, or hill that was even 300Ft above the Dz? I've seen DZs, many, with those within a mile. I can't comment on the grounding, due to my lack of time- but i think this person needs extensive gear review, and maybe even a FJC. It is taught, and stressed like no other, that to put trust into anything but your left and right hand is about as bad as it gets. On the grounding thing- I'd say it like this.. If you don't know your emergency procedures and equipment.. stay on the ground.. willingly.
  20. I don't know what to do about deployment speeds- but about the drag issue? Id say forget that for awhile. Even though the WL is on a big canopy, that is a fairly zippy performance platoform. Icarus has a 500 jump min. for an Xfire2, so I'm sure performance will not be an issue. Rigging in the air has its dangers, especially at lower jump numbers.. fly the stock canopy. On the free fall speed- obviously, dress for success. I know plently of bigger dudes (280+) that have had no issues with deployment speed.. but they pack neatly and wear a suit or drag, as well as focused on belly skills for deployment. If you go RDS- there is just so much canopy still that its a minor benifit too the over equation. In essence its like trying to tell a canopy on a performance level from 1.34 to 1.36- id be fairly suprised if that makes a significant diffrence. Good luck on the choices you make, but remember 1.4 WL is a performance WLing- I want an Xfire2 in that department of 1.45 but i'm waiting still for a while because unfortunetly shit happens out there.
  21. Man you got lucky, or something. My dads Xfire2 packs like a beast into a slightly oversized back. Sheesh, i bet hed love your 139, his packs nice and hard.
  22. Yah- does anyone know anything? I thinkk Mr. Slaton should come out here and do a camp. I researched a lot of paraglider and hang glider sights.. all a bust or Wayyy to sketch to learn on. I have like a 75 foot high, 35 degree grass hill by my house.. but im scared as balls to launch it and come down with no flare. I want something a little safer. Maybe the canopy would fly well enough with that little elivation, but I'm not trying it. Maybe i should just drop the 1K and go to the GLC.. but than not being able to use that knowledge here would hurt. Lets make a GL scene in the northeast!
  23. I was really looking at into PGing for awhile.. but the canopies seem to be, well diffrent from higher performance parachutes.. kinda holds me back a little. how do you like? Obviously front riser turns, snap turns, and more or less ram air canopy performance features are out- but is cruising up there fun? Maybe id get a kick out of trying to go up under fabric- but im just So In Love with high performance flight of parachutes (forget swooping, I mean snap turns, harness turns, riser and so on) that PGing seems so diffrent and well- slower. Have you ever tried hang gliding? That seems, on adavanced ships anyway, to have the performance and snap- but also a bigger hit to the wallet and more set up im guessing. I really hope you enjoyed your trip and I hope you enjoy the sport! Pics look awsome. dave.
  24. Its 2:20 am, and I am sick of studying exams.. but why has no one come up with a dual chamber wind tunnel? Kinda a mix of an offspring from FlyAway and Skyventure. In the middle is power house- above it would be a flyaway tunnel and beneath it would be the skyventure tunnel. Just some random thought I hd that maybe was already explored. I dont know what the dynamics of the fly away and skyventure tunnel engines are so maybe to produce the right amount of airflow for the skyventure tunnel maybe way to turbulent for the fly away tunnel.. beats me, im not an engineer or even an engineer to be. PS I patented this idea!
