Skyventure New Hampshire is on it's way!
YISkyDive replied to freefalling2day's topic in Wind Tunnels
Do you have a zipcode to where the tunnel is located so I can get a decent idea how far a drive it is for me? thanks- sorry if I missed it earlier in the thread -
Nice shots- but holy cripes thats wide. Cool man. Thanks for the post. Dave.

How would the lens fly with the .42X Kenko lens on a PC101? Im basically stuck between the "cheep" glass, because of the $$ and also because I think Im going to switch over to pentax equipment. the only other think that I could consider is the Zenitar16.. read a lot on that too.. but is it at all wider then the 18mm? Thanks for the replies. Dave

I've been flying my 300D a lot, and have slowly been thinking about a wider lens. Has anyone on here messed with the Peleng 8mm lens? Thanks, Dave.

Heres a few shots I got off with my 300D with the stock lens.

Oh no- I wasnt being critical. I have 250 jumps on a Diablo 170- loaded at 1.3:1.. and that canopy out turns high performance wings two sizes smaller. I had to chop mine at 1.3 with linetwists that where spinning. Diablos are an animal when they take off.. no questions asked..
-
I love Diablos- till you see that picture. I chopped mine once for a spinner so far...

My 300D in the air, with the kit lens.

Smaller Canopy same loading...
YISkyDive replied to YISkyDive's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hey guys- Im just trying too siff through the information avaliable on a smaller canopy with the same loading on a bigger canopy. My question is what is truley the diffrence between a triathlon 210 loaded at 1.00: 1 versus a triathlon 135 loaded at 1.00 :1. Im not suggesting there is not a diffrence, quite the opposite.. but I am intrested in how big it really is. Obviously I cant know personally, due too my larger size, but would a smaller parachute equate (term loosely used) too a 1.1 : 1, 1.2: 1, even a 1.3:1 on a larger triathlon? From what I understand- the diffrences are a shorter lineset and less drag develope more forward speed and turning speed at the lighter loadings on a small parachute, but i dont know what numerical impact that has i guess. Any help would be appreciated, dave. -
Opinions on the *ist DS and *ist DL?
YISkyDive replied to YISkyDive's topic in Photography and Video
Im intrested in the community's opinions on the *ist DS and *ist DL cameras. I understand the DL is a slightly lessened version of the DS. I have acquired a good amount of pentax lenses and this camera seems like a decent camera, especially considering the price. -
Video Editing Laptop - Am I Asking Too Much?
YISkyDive replied to Callum88Adam's topic in Photography and Video
I dont know what problems you might have had with MS OSes- but I have very rarley had a problem with adobe premier 6.0 and pro7.0 and XP. My video editing laptop was a 2.2P4 "M" not centrino- the mobile P4. It worked very acceptebably at 512MB, 40GB 5200 HD and go gefore440MX graphics card. Render took a little time- but all in all very acceptable for 2 years ago- it kept up with my 2500 athlon XP. The problem with Mac is all (in my opinion) it does well is video and animation. Its fairly expensive- so I never looked into it. Im hoping to get a really good video editing laptop soon- but to get good rendering speeds and the latest technology your looking at 2 grand at least. Gah prices sucks. Oh well. On the windows comments- if you maintain it its really not a problem. I have yet to get a serious case of spy ware that system restore hasnt fixed. Its a BEAUTIFUL addition. -
at my DZ is something like that happens- where its cameraman error- its simple- the cameraflyer pays for all expenses of the jump- including the refund. stuff like that is not only encouraged not to be sold, it is not allowed to be sold. If they charged your friend I would request a refund, or what ever is appropriate- because that is unnacceptable and everyone in the business does know what acceptable is.

Toggle grip for rear riser input
YISkyDive replied to LearningTOfly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
This is not infact true. If you open- go too unstow your brakes and now have a toggle in your hand that is not connect too your steering line for what ever reason, you can A) cut it away, or if you know how to land on rears B) make that decision too do so. At 200 jumps I started landing on rears too toggles and got my ass ripped. Everyone on the DZ was livid- yet I wasnt doing anything low, I wasnt pile driving into the ground, and I wasnt a danger too anyone. I learned soo much about landing rears on a diablo @ 1.2 too one that when I did it on a nitro at 1.4 too I had a very nice surf out of a harness turn. Shit- landing on rears is on the downsizing checklist. Im not advocating that a jumper with 56 jumps should be (without proper assitance) be learning this- but do you want them to learn rears on something that inducing a highspeed stall could kill them? On a diablo- if you blew a rears landing, you got an -ugly- surf and where forced to a toggle switch to stand up the landing. Im sure that if you rear riser stall a Xaos, crossifre, or other performance machine standing up the landing will be the last thing on your mind. Saying not too learning stuff on a lightly loaded canopy is so wrong its not even funny. Sure they may not get 300Ft swoops out of a 270- but there is a progression all should follow. And every time someone asks to down size too swoop the #1 comment I see is "learn everything you can on your current canopy." Now 270s on a 1.1 triathlon or what ever they case maybe may not be acceptable(and hopefully he person will be explained this as i was when i thought it was brite)- but before downsizing learning rears is something that is useful. Rears too toggles- its an additional step, but one that on a lightly loaded canopy has little affect- but does help muscle memory and understanding of whats going on. Unfortunetly this is not something you can do up high- because you cant tell what is happeneing too the foot. I did 50 rear riser landings in a row over the course of 3 or 4 weeks too learn what was really going. -
id watch ebay, i got a DCR-PC101 NTSC for 226.50shipped. used stuff is always great when your throwing it out of an airplane.

what do you fly? I could see how kiteboarding has helped me and flying a parachute- not directly- but the concept of "flying your controls." If you let a kite pull you around- you are a danger and can easily get hurt- but when you kiteboard, especcially in demanding winds, you learn a lot about flying blind. I have been in situations where I am being pulled backwards by the kite- but I am still flying the kite... very hard too do. Also, in kiteboarding- I ve been in a few emergency situations where I had to make a split second decision of what to do. I have found that same quick decision making to help in flying my parachute. None of it really helps swooping- but it does help your flying, and most importantly quick decision making.

On the low light- how bad is the rebel on sunset loads? If you use manual settings does the blur issue disipate? (with the stock lens) Im really worried about sunset loads because of problems I read about- by my plan was too switch too M and turn up the ISO at the cost of noise.

I am in the same boat as you. I have not jumped my 300D yet- but I am trying to match it up to a .42X, and basically till I get money, Iam screwed. The stock lens and a .42 on a 300D apprently works- but when you want to click off a shot it helps if you move back a little. This is per my boss at the DZ whom also flies a .42 on a PC101. The review the above poster gave should help a lot- but if there is one thing I learned from all the threads I read- pay for good glass. Like others said- sigma 15mm is widely used lens, but it has a price tag. I think when I get some change and get an ROI on all my cameras and helmet I will get that lens. my boss (and other on here) said it should match up with a .42 alright. your other option- though slightly more difficult- is to step up to a .45 or even .5. This would require a sight for sure- but you could match your camera around your rebel and not the other way around.

I have not done extensive homework- but with a little but of work you can get a Zenitar 16mm on 10D which i guess means it could work on a 300D. There was a thread I made a week ago asking this exact question- and there where some replies in there. have a look- its a few threads down.

haha. I wasnt saying your post didnt apply I was just telling ya it got moved.

The thread was in gerneral skydiving discussion- not bonfire. Im not quite sure why it got moved here- seeing as it was a fairly valid discussion around skydiving

Ya man- you need to chill out. E-mailing me a b/s e-mail wont help. Stuff said online is ment to stay online- the second I got a call from USPA about a post I made I learned very quickly that people take stuff out of context, can put words in your mouth, and fry you with anything you say no matter what the case is whether you are right or wrong, or telling the truth or not. I used to have as accurate a profile as possible, than a few months ago I had to deal with some phonecalls and posts I didnt care for- so it wasnt worth my time. Like i said, I have 334 jumps, a C lisence and thats more than enough info for anyone to know that my contributions are pointless. I accept that, understad that, and know that. My opinions, statements and Ideas are WACK. I understand that. I dont know what happens at your DZ.. but every younger jumper and student is warned about DZ.com- all info on here is for entertainment or enjoyment rather than BSR caliber info. I, as well as instructors, and S&Ts tell students stuff online, or outside of a coach/ instructor is info that can kill them, which is very true. If they read something online that they thing maybe valid they are more than encouraged to ask an instructor about it, but by no means should consider it fact just because its typed on some website the media likes too quote. I have seen some bizzare stuff on here, even from people with complete and potentially "crediable" profiles. Stuff that could kill you in the worst case, or in the best case just give you a cutaway. I've seen people say you can't fly this parachute but you can fly that parachute- even when their logic is all wrong. What ever.. some of the posters have an "impressive' profile too- but regaurdless if the jumper reading the posts too the information as fact from them then we could see an incident come about. At your DZ you know who has the skills in what- you see them rig reserves, you see them turn canopies, you see them teach FJCs- but on here you see characters, and thats all they are- are characters. Sure there are people on here we can trust- but only a fool takes information from someone and believes it true even though they have never met them- or at least knows where they stand on the food chain. Do me a favor, stop e-mailing me, stop brining up old threads I have posted in, and let go of the fact that I dont care too have a full profile. If it bothers you soo much than please dont let me be the source of what ever health condition this will bring upon you from stressing out over it so much. Young jumpers- and old jumpers a like need to check any new information with somene crediable too them before attempting anything new. I get called out for asking "a million questions a day" to skydivers.. but at the end of the night I know some facts- much more than what I take off of the website. Some times DZ.com has been inline with the facts- other times I am glad I asked somone I trusted before performing X.

Haha- you brought this up in S&T and here? Geez man why are you so concerened with who I am You know how many jumps I got- and you know I got some C lisence so you obviosuly know not to care what I think, right? Its not that hard to grasp
