Thanks for the advice guys. Yes, i have been talking to experinced swoopers, but my DZ is small with all A lisenced skydivers, except for myself and another gentleman. I have lots of "aerodynamic" information and video of my first 35 attempts, which where actually very irresponsible on my part last year. Those were attempts to do "perfect" double front approches versus a safe margin of error. Looking back, i am unimpressed... i could have easily hurt myself on some. But as i made 5 jumps this season i am not finding myself in the corner.. but still giving some tail input.. maybe 15% toggle input for correction, my goal is to be about +5 / + 10 feet, and coast into a flair. The thing is i cannot tell what the diffrence between 30 and 60 feet is, for a better than large extent.. i find my self looking very steepily at the ground and not the horizon.. or up more, is there some sort of a realitive degree to the horizon i should be looking for? NOTE:i just want to express that i am expressing the utmost safety while doing these landings. I understand that even a .8 wing loading can kill.. this is why i am still on double fronts 50 jumps later, and probably for the next 50 to 75 easy, maybe even more. I Just dont have any swoopers at my home DZ making it hard for any realiable input, and the videos i have show an obvious error of holding my front risers to long, but now i need to figure out how to fix it. I have been "high" on the latest of my attempts, but i am just trying to figure out the technique i should be looking for to be judging both alt. loss, and alt. refrence. sorry for the novel. dave.

Hey guys, I've been working on my double front risers for over 50 jumps, but im finding that i am having a consicetny issue figuring out the recovery arch on my triathlong 210 loaded @ 1.1. I sometimes find myself holding the risers long and getting into a shallow corner (with tail input its completly save-able) but im trying to learn how to have a complete recovery arch without tail input before even considering a progression. The question is, how does one learn the recovery arch with out hititng the ground. I know the triathlon is one of the worst canopies for swooping.. but its slow and fairly safe.. so thats why i am using this. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free. As i said i have 50 double front jumps already, i just want to get way more consitent on point. I also have read Brian Germains book on canopy control. Thanks for any help. Dave.

"You should practice up high" High Performance Turns
YISkyDive replied to LawnDart21's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
In terms i agree and disagree with what is being said. Currently, I have 60 jumps, and have begun exploring canopy control. One of the manuvers that i am safetly explorning is a 270 turn, onto final, with about 50 ft plus of clearence. My father, who has over 600 jumps, up high flies as a point of refrence, and i learn basic refrencing by him. I understand 100% by no means is this an acurate method of learning how to complete any performance landing... but its a start. The next phase of learning, is to begin (in a seperate part of the landing area, away from everyone) at X hundred feet, very high, to learn what ground refrence i can come up with. Also, being able to judge the consisteny of altitude loss, and fianlly bring it down from 100, to 80, to 50 feet. I am planing on using well over 15 jumps, to confortably and saftely do the landing, without enderaring myself or others, but i plan on using both the high altitude method of learning, and the ground refence understanding, before at all attempting this as a true landing. So i see it both ways, but before anything can be attempted down low.. it has to be done up high, just to have a basic understanding of the flight of the canopy... -feet down low = a bad day in the office. But, also, learning up high, doesnt exclude anyone from intrested in highperformance landings from learning ground refrence without an alitimeter, so you can learn what outs you have, and more importanty when to use those outs. Just my 2cents -
Wow, thats a long delay for that spot, isnt it? For that spot, a standard free fall delay is 7 or so seconds, correct? He did what, 10 maybe more. Wow, that was cool. Good jump

Thanks for all the tips guys, due to my low jump number of 30, i am in no hurry to bring front riser to the deck. I am eighteen, and into intense and fun situations, but not just yet on the risers. i have a personal commit ment of at least 250 - 300 skydives before even exploring risers and landings. Although , ill def keep everything that was said in mind. I had the lines extened today, and it actually helped a great deal. The canopy is much faster, and much more responsivce. The front rise dive also is extreme, and can be held a supringly long distance. I watched my altimeter, and i was able to keep the canopy in a dive for about 700 feet. Not horridly fast dive, but still pretty impressive from what i was doing earlier. The only issue i ran acrossed is on my third jump with the new lines, the canopy began to do a slow turn to the left, which is not that wonderful. i couldnt figure out if i was seated wrong in my harness, or if i could have potentially had a ling strech. o thats gonna be tomorrows adventure. Discovering that issue. But otherwise, thanks again for all your imput guys.

Yah, thats my problem. I did some testing with my canopy, 7 jumps to be exact. And i watched it fly; it's pretty much braked. I have zero slack in the lines. If i realase the toggle, and pull on the dive loop, it works alright, i can get the canopy to stay in the dive, but if i am holding the toggle it just mushes around. The question is, is it safe to extend the line another 2 inches? My flare is respectibale, but not great. I'll stand up every landing, pretty much, but the added line would deflect the flare another few inches, correct? The rigger on the dropzone, and another instructor felt it would help, but from my understanding, OEM lines on Triathlon actually have the canopy braked, stock. So i dont know how this adds or changes the control characteristcs of flight.

I was thinking the same thing, i was watching the tail, and i maybe having that problem. I own the triathlon, its loaded at 1.10, which is pretty decent loading for a student. I have, on this praticluar canopy about 10 jumps. I'm fully against low manuvers at my current learning stage, im just trying to shoot for a little bit more ofa high performance turn up high.

Hey guys, im jumping a Triathlon 210, and today i was working on high altitude front riser dives. At 12,000 feet when i pulled on the front riser (left, right, both) it didnt dive at all. It began to mush and i couldnt find the sweet spot at all. Last week i did 2 or 3 at 3,000 feet, but still very slushy. My exit weight it 230, so i dont have the world's weakest or highest wingloading, and naturally a 7 cell is pretty docile, so i'm just trying to figure out if thats the nature of this canopy, or can it actually be put into a dive/ swoop like affect (at high alititude + 1000 feet) Thanks. Dave
