  1. I have one audible in mine.. but I bet you could even do two in it. One left, one Right.
  2. I jump a Sidewinder with a PC101. The only two problems I have with the helmet is the face sheild and not having a thumb screw. The second I can fix on my own.. but the first problem is some what of a mind mess for me. The hindges are set up right, it fits right too. but sometimes I get this weird turblence under the chin where the helmet starts violently shaking, and pops the sheild. I have had it happen on belly to earth jumps, and on both new and old sheilds. Some times it happens in the track, but twice it happened on T.Video jumps. I can't figure it out. My father has 400 jumps on the helmet and has never had it happen to him once. It just must sit on my head funny, but it seems to fit comfortably and no one knows what to say about it.
  3. That is very true- I've just never persoanlly experinced it. I could pack bad, or any number of other things.
  4. Haha very nice. Another aerodyne sucks round. No but for real- I jumped a Triathlon210 for a 150 jumps. Resonable canopy, good openings, and a good platform to start out on. I jumped a Specter190; new 150; and broken in 150 and man- all of them where not on my favorites list in the openings category. I think its something im doing but all of the specters I have jumped opened.. well rather, positive. I like the specter in every aspect, except the opening. The openings where just plain brutal. But i will admit- the nicest opening I ever saw on video was a specter.. just it wasnt my video. dave.
  5. Ops - wasn’t clear on that. Be more docile in the performance/ flight department, and less forgiving in the flare department. From the 9cells I have jumped, all the 9cells flared much easier- while both my Diablo and Triathlon flared well-- to hit the "sweet" spot was much harder. With the same size Sabre2- I could shut it down in no wind conditions- but with my Diablo it took 15 jumps to learn to shut it down in no wind. And with the Diablo, as well as the Triathlon I have never had a “pop” on the end of my flare unless there was some kind of induced speed while on the Sabre2- it had ample power to pop up at the end of flare. I hope that makes more sense Dave.
  6. I’m by no way a canopy expert but.. 7 cells is Generally a more docile platform, with a steeper trim and different flare. Weaker and less forgiving. The 9 cell has more performance base, and an obviously stronger flare. They also have flatter glide ratios. Each has exceptions to the rules. If you’re new to the sport, talk to your instructors. They'll probably set you up with a Sabre2/ Pilot at an appropriate WL to your skills as a student/ new jumper. Just because it has 7 or 9 cells does not mean its tame/ or extremely high performance. Every canopy has a personality and your instructors and DZO will probably be able to help you finding the right mix.
  7. I dont know what thats supposed to mean.. But Indiana PA, Is north of Pittsburgh. PennRidge is North of Philidelphia If it was 45miles, Id Love that. Its well in the hundreds of miles. Its more like the lenght of Pennsylvania. EDITED to add: 18960/ 18944 are my home/DZ zipcodes. 15705 is my current residence (Campus Towers, IUP) Dave.
  8. Hey MakeItHappen, Just sent ya an e-mail.. somehow your e-mail was labelled as spam so i did not recieve it. And, yes.. I do not teach method specific items.. I unfortunetly figured that was assumed with me being a coach and not an AFF-I. My apologies on that not being clear from the get go. Being a coach- and an instructor in training- I threw this thread up to get a ball park idea where I fit in... Again my mistake for not making that clear. Our DZ has a procces for the students after I teach the "FJC" or the non method specific items, to indivdually train the student with "pre jump" instruction. This includes all method specific items, as well as an entire review of the "fjc" to make sure that the student was taught properly. This part I am completly uninvolved with, and am back to seeing nothing but carpet / chute / carpet / chute. As aware as I am- I follow all USPA regs. on this subject. I have asked approprate sources to make sure I am not making a mistake in what is considered method specific. Sorry for being misleading- I just thought that was assumed with my title and jumps. dave.
  9. BECAREFUL with that.. two things.. loose linen tension and All bets are off with safety. You could end up in your canopy. Also if you pinch a steering line and get diving line twists you may not be able to get out of them.. inducing a cutaway at a pretty high altitude.. though not a problem but lost equipment sucks. This is something i thought about.. but an experienced jumper changed my mind.. best thing to do is to learn to fly your canopy smoothly and efficiently.. a good pilot will never get close to these stall points and induced line twists.. been there.. done that.. they suck. simple as that.
  10. Holy GOD, twenty students???!?!?!?! WOW. I hated doing seven students.. I didnt hate it, but it was just a lot of people to make sure that are getting everything. Do you use assistants or an aid, or just one person teaching a large group like that.
  11. The video is not posted as of late, but next week I could post it. Its a shitty shitty video, but i could see it as being educational as well. I need my camera, which is 400 miles away to post it. I'll PM when when its up dave.
  12. Awhile ago, I did this as well. I was on my first jump on a 190Hornet, and I was entering the downwind leg of my pattern. As I got 90degree through the 180, I was on my back.. and before my canopy spun up I knew what was going on.. I took the two linetwists, luckly not pinching the steering line, and was out of the mess by 700 feet. It freggin sucked. Made good video.. but damn it. I'll never ever let myself get into that postion, again. Coupla things I was told... Fly your canopy, forget about toggle placement. Fly your canopy smoothly and effiecently... dont go straight to your side. Get there smoothly. Also linetension is key. Loose line tension and your liable to gift wrap yourself. On my video, you can clearly see a stalled left side, and then the canopy flying around it, no fun.
  13. Thats Awsome! I know what Skyventure in Florida feels like at 10pm at night on a cool winter night! Is that an ETA of when this project will be up and operational? I wouldnt mind a road trip from PA at all to get some more time! dave.
  14. Is it not cold into N.H.? Wouldnt that mean that the tunnel would not run in winter months? just wondering, Dave.
  15. Im a coach, not an AFF-I, Im short a good number of jumps and time in the sport.
  16. I used to not have dive loops on my rig, so I woudlnt try to use them on landing at all, and get experince on my canopy before touching Fronts. I grabbed the whole riser and it worked up high pretty well, but it was very untrust worthy to use on the deck. After putting on diveloops, I can get much better front riser performance out of my canopy, and much more consistent turns. I tacked mine down so they stick out, and made sure I can safetly use gloves with them.
  17. guizgabriel.. I'd d be very careful with your sarcastic "thank you" because those words may actually be important... If you make a mistake, at your loading... any mistake, Just like if I make a mistake at my loading, you will be in a chopper. Why get so defensive with people that have 12 times plus more skydives than you? Do you know that much you need not listen? I'm not saying listen to me, but listen to the people that jump more than you, wayyyy more than you. If you have never seen a person hit the ground, if you never saw a femur, pelvis, and broken back... if you never have seen a close friend of yours in a box, please ditch the smart man ruitne and can your wise remarks, because in this sport ending up in a box is all to real- I have a friend with a broken back I have a friend that broke a femur/ back/ pelvis when she hit the ground I have an ex-friend that was killed a few years ago. Do Not Get Complacent... Or you better get ready to enjoy your chopper ride. Relax man, no one is trying to piss on your life.. They are trying to save your life.
  18. Cool- the one thing with the Diablo is that it is no where near the lower end of performance canopies.. triathlon.. specter so on. The Diablo is a redicously fast turning parachute, and, personally, a very high performance machine. My diablo170 kills the sabre2 170 I was jumping before hand.. in terms of performance.. but it looses some points in the flare department. The Diablo has the problems of 7 cells, but I wouldn’t rate it in the 7 cell class, because it has a ton of performance. Just an opinion
  19. I used to drink a ton of red bull when i was 16- the only thing that happened was gain weight. If they are drinking sugar free- hes probably doing better than drinking soda. red bull is marketed towards action sports. Just make sure they arnt drinking more than 1, and they'll be fine.
  20. Hey guys- I'm curious where the HiperUSA Nitro fits into canopies. Is this an "eliptical" or an eliptical.. does it have the ability for snappy harness input or is it more toned down. Just curious, because my mom flies it 1.3 for the last 300 jumps, but I have no idea at all what this thing actually is, haha. From what i have searched and read on line.. it goes something like.. Spector Safire2, Sabre2, Nitro/Nitron, Stilleto/Diablo, Crossfire2/Katana - crossed brace boys. I could be wrong, thats why i am asking. thanks guys. dave.
  21. Intresting guys- Mine are with paper work, and test and break about 5.5 hours... straight teaching excluding timed break is about 4 hours. The AFF instructors on the DZ said that all the students "come out on top of things" but sometimes I persoanlly feel I can do a better job, jsut a feeling. I taught a bunch this year, and have leard a lot while doing it. dave Oh my shortest was 3 hours + test- a Really Really ontop of it guy thats on level 4 pretty well. My longest was about 7 hours with a gentleman that was "smart" but needed some extra aids in teaching- so i had to write down everything on the white board so he could get it. Do you guys require or like to see a tandem before running a FJC? I find that not only does it make the course smoother, it also helps exaplain a lot of the theory with relation to what they have already done.
  22. Hey guys- I have now taught about 30 First Jump Courses- And I am intrested to hear how long yours normally run- with the average student. We all have had the 8 hour course- but under good[normal] conditions how long does it take you. Do you give your students the option of not taking a break and teach threw lunch if they want to do that? Just intrested to see where my numbers fit in to seasoned professinals.
  23. Oh yes, you can find DVD Burners for under 50 dollars now.. but I'm talking about DVD Recorders... Speaking of being a grammar nazi...
  24. Haha, yup/ That is the problem I woudlnt mind a 101 at all, in good condition, at a good price
  25. Hey guys, I have equipment questions in reguardess to a good set up for next season.. Currently, I have 285 jumps, 100 with a camera on my head, and about 15 tandems videoed or mock videoed with a sold 3 out of 4 spec videos. I currently fly a Sidewinder helmet, PC101 and use a 2.8GHZ PC with DVD burner as an editing platform... not good for a DZ set up. The helmet and camera are my fathers, the PC is mine, but i want an editing board system. I work full time on a DZ as a coach/ packer/ FJC teacher but for next season id like to get on the video rotation. For realism sake i am looking at what it would cost to get a good system. What id like to do... Have a small TV for editing (already have) have an A/V board- with mixing 2 AV in capabiltity and editing effects have a decent Camera- I currently Use a 101 thats not mine.. what should i get? I dont understand the new cameras. My DZ may likely require digital stills next seasons, what digital camera should i investiage? I know about the Rebel.. looking for alternatives Fianlly helmets.. I dont nor will fly wings for a while.. experince is an issue in my case, though i have 2 hours of tunnel time. I have a camera suit to trian in, but i dont lfly it with tandems. Rawa? lots of people on my DZ fly that helmet without wings, but what other alternatives are there? Finally what DVD recorder should i get? I want DVD + and DVD - R, but I am having little to no luck finding both platforms in one player. Also what does blueray and other DVD fromats throw into the mix? Thanks guys, I know this is a bunch... back to editing i go. dave
